Discover our nature: from unique flora and fauna, to animals like deer, osprey, otters and - if you’re lucky - even a red squirrel. See our famous Herdwick sheep, meander along woodland paths lined with bluebells; see our landscapes painted in autumn colour; and admire mountain tops capped with snow.
Immerse yourself in the local history. Ancient stone circles are dotted across our landscapes: Castlerigg Stone Circle near Keswick is a popular site. Unearth a fascinating industrial heritage and explore mines, steam railways and vintage boats. Visit grand stately homes and castles with beautiful gardens. Festival season lasts all year, with literature, music, art and film all showcased at arts & culture events across the seasons; as well as traditional country shows in summer. Discover independent cinemas and theatres, and learn more about our artistic heritage at our museums.

The wellness movement was born here: indulge in the relaxing practice of forest bathing; do yoga on a hilltop; take a dip and enjoy the restorative benefits of wild swimming; or simply soak up the soothing effect of the lakes and fells all around.
