The ministers and members of Centenary extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family and pray they may know the comfort and peace of our Heavenly Father.

ADULT FORMATION

FIRST FIFTEEN: WHAT’S NEXT?

Nearly a year ago our congregation began an intentional practice of starting each day with scripture reading and prayer with the goal of reading the entire Old and New Testaments. The 2023-2024 readings end this month in the book of Revelation. We’ve put together a list of resources to help you get started with a new practice of reading and prayer. Most of these resources will be accessed online, but there will also be one printed reading plan available for pickup at the church and some printed devotional books you can order. For more information contact Stacy Holley (sholley@ centenary-ws.org/ ext. 1359).

BACKPACK BLESSING

TODAY • 5:30 - 7 PM

Join us tonight in the Community Room for fun activities, pizza dinner and a chance to meet your Sunday school small group leaders for the upcoming school year! We will spend time speaking a blessing over you and your backpack. We will also be collecting packs of size 5 diapers for local food pantries! Park in the 5th street lot and enter the East Building through the 5th Street Entrance.

PROMOTION SUNDAY AND PARENT OPEN HOUSE

AUGUST 18 • ROOM 304

• EAST BUILDING

On Sunday, August 18, your kids will move up to their new Sunday school class for the 2024-2025 academic year! The Sunday school class your kids are in corresponds with their grade in school for that year or their age by August 31, 2024. During Sunday school on August 18, we will have a Parent Open House in Room 304, on the third floor of the East Building. We will have a time of refreshments, fellowship and hear about all the amazing things coming up for your family at Centenary this year. Questions? Reach out to Rev. Kate May (kmay@ centenary-ws.org/ext. 1331) or Anna Thomas (athomas@centenary-ws.org/ext. 1332).

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

STEPHEN MINISTRY

Stephen Ministers are trained to provide care for those who are hurting or grieving through a one-on-one relationship. A Stephen Minister is a caring presence to provide emotional and spiritual support. Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”  Galatians 6:2

If you or someone you know could benefit from Stephen Ministry, please contact Deena Morgan (336-692-2314) or Wilba Brady (336-723-6236).

JOIN THE CHANCEL CHOIR

Add your voice to Centenary’s Chancel Choir! Join us as we return to our weekly rehearsal schedule this Thursday, August 15, at 7:00 pm or at our annual retreat on August 23 and 24. We seek to equip and empower the congregation to lift its collective heart and voice in praise-filled worship, whether on Sunday mornings, during special services like the beloved Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols, or in collaboration with other groups from around the Triad and beyond. We rehearse each Thursday from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. NO audition is required! Please contact Director of Music Ministries, Jonathan Emmons (jemmons@ centenary-ws.org) to learn more.

The Winston-Salem Choral Academy is holding placement auditions in August for boys and girls who love to sing. Tuition is now FREE for Centenary families! Weekly rehearsals begin in late August. For more information, email wschoralacademy@ gmail.com or call (336) 413-8227.

“What’s Faith Got to Do With It?” As teenagers, we have all kinds of thoughts about what we might be or do when we grow up. The possibilities are endless and so very exciting! Come listen to different ‘grown-ups’ from our church family share what it is that they do (their work), how they decided what they wanted to do with their life, how they got there, and what their faith has to do with it. This is a great opportunity to hear from and be inspired by some very exceptional people.
