WELCOME TO WORSHIP

THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

(Children, kindergartners through third grade, are invited to exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship. Children will return to reserved pews in the Sanctuary at the close of worship.)

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED

TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST • NOVEMBER 13, 2022 • 11:00AM

CANTICLE The Pilgrims’ Hymn — Stephen Paulus Even before we call on Your name to ask You, O God. When we seek for the words to glorify You, You hear our prayer. Unceasing love, surpassing all we know. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Even with darkness sealing us in, we breathe Your name, and through all the days that follow so fast, we trust in You. Endless Your grace, beyond all mortal dream. Both now and forever, and unto ages and ages, Amen.

THE COMMUNITY GATHERS The prelude signifies the beginning of worship. You are invited to be in a spirit of prayer and meditation. Please silence all mobile communication devices. †

SERMON — “Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying”

Marching to Zion — arr. John Ferguson Come, we that love the Lord, and let our joys be known; join in a song with sweet accord, and thus surround the throne. We’re marching to Zion, beautiful, beautiful Zion; we’re marching upward to Zion, the beautiful city of God.

CALL TO WORSHIP Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the king of all, govern the ears and minds if those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, now and for ever. Amen.

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT OFFERTORY To Sing Once More — Craig Courtney Awake our souls to sing once more the songs that long have silent been. From troubled nights and fearful days, our notes of praise and joy begin. Inspired by hope, compelled by grace, we sing Your everlasting praise. Most holy God, Your song we seek and trust in your unchanging ways. With comfort, Your eternal voice is music to our fainting soul. It speaks in times of hurt and wrong, it whispers peace, it makes us whole.

HYMN OF PROCESSION #158 Come, Christians, Join to Sing — SPANISH HYMN

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
