Lay Me Low (from Shaker Songs) — arr. Kevin Siegfried Lay me low, where the Lord can find me, bless me, own me. Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. #589 The Church of Christ in Every Age — WAREHAM I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. #71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. 3
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
After each prayer, the leader may conclude: Lord, in your mercy. All may respond: Hear our prayer.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

#557 Blest Be the Tie That Binds — DENNIS (Children, kindergartners through third grade, are invited to exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship. Children will return to reserved pews in the Sanctuary at the close of worship.)
GOD'S WORD PROCLAIMED CANTICLE
God Be in My Head — K. Lee Scott God be in my head, and in my understanding; God be in mine eyes, and in my looking; God be in my mouth, and in my speaking; God be in my heart, and in my thinking; God be at mine end, and my departing.
SCRIPTURE Mark 9:30-37
They went on from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.” But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him. Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.” (NRSV) This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

OFFERTORY
The Servant Song — arr. David Haas Will you let me be your servant, let me be as Christ to you; pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant too. We are pilgrims on a journey, we are trav'lers on the road; we are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load. I will hold the Christlight for you in the nighttime of your fear; I will hold my hand out to you, speak the peace you long to hear. I will weep when you are weeping; when you laugh I'll laugh with you. I will share your joy and sorrow 'til we've seen this journey through. When we sing to God in heaven we will find such harmony, born of all we've known together of Christ's love and agony.

We pray this in the name Christ the Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever more. Amen.

CENTENARY SEEKS LEADERS The Committee on Nominations and Lay Leadership works in concert with the Senior Minister and staff to select leaders for the program and administrative ministries of the church. If you have a passion for Centenary, our mission to follow Jesus, make disciples, and transform the world, and want to live out your membership vow to support the church by your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness then serving in lay leadership is an excellent way to practice discipleship and help Centenary grow. The Nominations Committee seeks servant leaders for Children, Youth, Adult Faith Formation, Senior Adult, Congregational Care, Evangelism and Engagement, Mission and Outreach, and Music and the Arts ministries, the Board of Trustees, the Finance, Stewardship, and Staff Parish Relations Committees, and to be delegates to the Western North Carolina Annual Conference meeting in June. If you are an active member of the congregation and wish to be considered for leadership in one of these areas please email Dr. Kinken (gkinken@centenary-ws.org) your name and area of interest. This information will be shared with the Nominations and Lay Leadership Committee.
YOUNG ADULTS Young Adults at Centenary will meet tonight at 5pm in room 310 in the East Building. Childcare will be provided this week. Please contact Rev. Meg Gaston (mgaston@centenary-ws.org) if you have any questions.
