THE COMMUNITY GATHERS

Welcome to worship at Centenary! We are a church for everyone. As you prepare for worship, we invite you to greet your neighbor and share the love of Christ. Please silence all mobile communication devices.

PRELUDE

GREETING

INTROIT

Hymn of Praise — René Clausen Alleluia. Praise God in his holy temple. Amen.

†OPENING PRAYER

O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

†HYMN OF PROCESSION

#173 Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies — RATISBON

†AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We are not alone, we live in God’s world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the church: to celebrate God’s presence, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen.

†GLORIA PATRI

#71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

SCRIPTURE — Luke 10:1-12

This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

SERMON — “Are We the 72?”

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT

OFFERTORY

Dazzling As the Sun — Gwyneth Walker Dazzling as the sun, the face of Jesus on the mountain, like the face of Moses coming down from Sinai ready, strong to lead his people out of bondage into freedom, to the promised land. Transfigured for disciples’ eyes, God’s servant who would suffer as Isaiah prophesied. Revealed in garments glist’ning white, the glorious Son of Man whom Daniel had foretold. Then the cloud of presence, then the voice of witness: “This is my beloved Son on whom my favor rests. Listen to him.” Hear him! Gazing on the Lord by radiant light transfigured, see the pattern of our lives: cross embraced to Easter splendor. Claim the gospel vision wondrous: we are God’s beloved ones. Claim the transformation promised: destiny of glory!

†DOXOLOGY

#95 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD 100th Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

†PRAYER OF DEDICATION

Receive these offerings, O Lord. We give you thanks for the blessings which you have bestowed upon us. We pray these gifts, the employment of our talents, the labor of our hands, the prayers of our hearts, and the witness of our lives will show the world the magnitude of your love and grace. Let us put you first in our lives. Use us this week to build your Kingdom. We ask this in the name of Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever more. Amen.

WE CELEBRATE HOLY COMMUNION

The congregation is invited to follow the communion liturgy beginning on page 12 of the hymnal.

INVITATION TO COMMUNION

Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess before God and one another.

CONFESSION AND PARDON

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

RECEIVING OF ELEMENTS

Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself to us. Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit, to give ourselves for others, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CENTENARY CARES

Showing Care and Sharing Encouragement from Shining Light on Mental Health

When we experience challenging circumstances that affect us and involve mental health, yet we wish to remain private, it is still important that we know we are cared for, prayed for, and loved by our church family. Centenary Cares, a ministry of Shining Light on Mental Health, is a simple way that our church can extend care and encouragement. If someone you know is stressed or has a loved one experiencing issues with mental health, submit the person’s name to Rev. Oliver Helsabeck Associate Minister for Congregational Care (ohelsabeck@centenaryws.org/ext. 1357). A member of Shining Light will confidentially deliver a Centenary Cares bag to the recipient. More information can be found on the church website under Congregational Care/Shining Light.

Join us in the Sanctuary each Tuesday of Lent at noon for a 30-minute musical presentation. Each week will feature a different musician or ensemble. Join us as we prepare our hearts during this season of reflection and contemplation. For questions or more information, please contact Jonathan Emmons (jemmons@centenary-ws.org). No registration is required.
