Contemporary Art Collection Lisbon, Portugal
“Silence”, means the Lake of sounds or a sound. “Soft Silence of the Arts.”; is a group exhibition of Iranian Contemporary artists, offering meaning as they communicate through their visual voices. My thoughts have been engaged with the world of surrealism since I began learning how to paint. Creating illogical scenes from diverse objects allows me to invite people to my dreams and mysteries. My creative journey begins by tearing the back of my canvases as I begin to paint them, as I move to fill them with objects such as paper , fabric , cloth , newspaper and tie them with ropes and tapes to certify that even small parts with underlying layers can remain hidden, in order to deliver valuable messages, sharing reality and secrets to my audience. The Qajar paintings come from our past history, these paintings and their beauty have been valued and still are admired today, as I pack them with newspaper and rope to protect any destruction of time, even though they are wounded and torn, yet still have integrity and harmony. It seems to me that Qajar period is still alive and much favored in our times today and continues its path, only with different individual and personal contemporary touches.

Mohamadhadi Fadavi
For many years, he has tried hard in the area of painting, to achieve self-expression. He was able to make a logical and accurate relation between contemporary painting and the Iranian Miniature Art. He has also been able to give special identity to the presence of miniature at the present time as a historical process in his works. He invites the addressee to accompany him in sightseeing his works, and reminds us that coordination shall exist between the shape and the content of artistic works. In his works, there are many horses without riders with brilliant colors, i.e. turquoise, azure, saffron yellow, white and gray, which are moving from left to right and from right to left slowly and which are seen in a ground of cypress trees and birds. The horses do not cover each other while passing, but their colors are combined when they reach each other; and new colors are created at the time of their contact. He takes benefit from combining materials in his works for achieving a proper structure for his expression and finds canvas as the best ground for his artistic expressions. Ramesh Hosseinilahiji Iran, a noble and elegant country I'd like to be the wise spiller of the nature, like Mynah. Fly high as a swallow over my homeland's mountain and the deserts, be messenger of happiness and purity for the people. Everything is valuable and memorable to me, from the floral dress of a rural little girl to the steady and high Damavand Mountain. My Iran; the beautiful, proud and honorable country which shines as a diamond to the world. Diversity of races makes it exclusive. Those who took my hands warmly, welcomed me to their colorful but simple tables and whispered with smile the love stories of my land to my ear. Their colorful and happy clothes; purple, red, green and yellow colors with its unique sparkle expresses the grandeur and gentility of my ancient homeland. I hope to be like a happy hoopoe as well and fly over your fancy sky, bring the attar of amaryllis for the people of love land.

Hamid Iravani My Good, Bad and Ugly Faces Hamid Iravani has a Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies and Psychology and a Master in Urban Planning within the specialized field of Urban Design from Portland State University, Oregon in USA. He is also a contemporary artist painting abstract faces, personalities, attitudes, behavior and demeanor. He has taken many art, design and sculpture classes at university. He describes the impetus and underlying philosophy of his unique style of painting as a manifestation of several aspects in his life as follows. I have drawn faces since I was a kid, to challenge myself, because I have always been obsessed about how a few features like two eyebrows, two eyes, one nose and one mouth have determined millions of faces throughout history, present and future, all of which are unique. In my paintings, I always initially draw in a mindless stage and later plan the colors. The different moods that I experience also impacts on the distinctive faces that I paint. Along with my artwork, also being in the transportation planning business since the mideighties, I have always been concerned how traffic engineering has been ruining the character of our cities in recent decades. Unfortunately, modern cities have been shaped by traffic engineering standards and roads that are treated as conduits or pipelines. Artistic cities such as Rome, Isfahan, Prague, Paris, Florence, San Francisco, Venice, etc. are no longer being planned on the premise and excuse that traffic flows need to be efficient to avoid congestion. The result in fact has been the opposite: not only do traffic conditions on super highways and wide streets fail to avoid congestion, but the human scale of the resulting urban spaces have also been compromised by wider streets developed for cars so that these are now unfriendly and charmless to people. In summary, blame on conventional traffic engineering standards did not necessarily make me an anarchist who violates all standards, but rather led me to an approach by which form defines the standards, and not vice versa. So whereas my paintings lack typical standards as a dominating component, what I paint does include careful rules, composition, use of lines, colors and a notion of how space is allocated in any of the pieces I create.
I do not only paint pretty faces, I also paint bad and ugly faces. More importantly, however, I paint the inside beauty, and the inside uninhibitedness regardless of the surface appearance. Finally, the poem by the great prominent Iranian poet of the 13th century, Rumi, has had a great influence on me and my painting of faces: "I am a painter, a maker of faces ; every moment I shape a beauteous form, And then in thy presence I melt them all away. I call up a hundred phantoms and endue them with a spirit When I behold thy phantom, I cast them in the fire, Art thou the vintner's cupbearer or the enemy of him who is sober, Or is it thou who mak'st a ruin of every house I build? In thee the soul is dissolved, with thee it is mingled, So I will cherish the soul, because it has a perfume of thee. Hamid Iravani hiravani@cenint.com www.HamidIravani.com

Gita Meh “Does; Living the Experiencing of the Age of Global Integration, Make’s Earth Our Border?” The Surrealist Manifesto by the poet Andre Breton was proclaimed in Paris in 1924. His goal was to liberate thinking, language, and human being and experience from oppressive boundaries, as we are still within those boundaries today. Breton’s revolutionary move towards liberation of the human mind from violence and ignorance echoes throughout my work and is focused in my new series of painthings which in the broadest sense is to create visual thinking. My art attempts to expand surrealism into a merging of cultural differences between East and West, by brushing Earth as one soil, one soul, one word, Salam. 29 years had passed since I last lived in Iran. During 29 years of migration, I was able to examine how identity is shaped by differences in language, gender, ethnicity and culture, desire, exile, solitude and freedom, allowing me to re-create my own experience of crosscultural spaces. Finally I came back to Iran, luggage filled with files and memories of half of the globe. Before her death, my mother was helping me un-pack the geographies, the languages, the many mountains, faces, cultures, brushes, rolls of canvases, eyebrows and tongues that constituted my artistic past practice. Together, we looked at images of so many different kinds of “clouds” on my Apple laptop. I realized then I was Home. And I dedicate this new series of oil paintings titled “Landscape of the Soul” to her who taught me how to make a circle, then a line, then an “i,” then another eye, then a smile. Oil, soil, dirt, dried leaf, animal hair, on canvas. This is an oil painting series of landscapes that turn into roads, roads which when followed become faces, faces become nests, birds singing love songs which soon transform into soil and into another face after another tree, after another eye, watching, rain drops, growing. “Landscape of Soul”, examines with oil on canvas the fact that Art is a nourishing henomenon, a meta-milk, if you will. The art and the act of painting is a duplication of mental pixels, a pattern the creator sets out to translate and to exhibit meaning into visual form. I want my art to ignite and to awaken spectators from the memory pixels of their own unconscious, and to bring these collective archetypes into illuminated experiences. Also I would like to thank my mentors, teachers, family, colleagues and supporters who, with their extraordinary insight and understanding, have given me the ability and the courage to bring my vision into a tangible reality in all ways. --Gita Meh Banoo Sahra, Iran, 2016 Gita Meh (Narges Khashabi) gitakmeh@gmail.com www.gitameh.com

For an “artist photographer”, each frame is like a medium between “ego” and “the world spirit”. A way to record the transparency of the world and its latent modesty, an struggle between “darkness and light”, “to be and not to be”, “far and close”, “prosperity and demolition”… In the meantime… I would listen to the song of the world. To the whisper of the leaves. With reflection on the universe and wonders of the nature, I would be drawn to something very beautiful and brilliant. With passing of the first beam, with the least handshake, I will immortalize a disperse piece of heaven in a marvelous frame. The call of appreciate would arise from my soul First from the universe and then from its kind creatures… Miran Mobasheri “And this is all life” mobasheri.shoresh@gmail.com www.mobashery.com

What the modernism has granted us is a kind of a doubt to the definitive beliefs of the past which opened new (horizons/arenas) respecting the concept of the art, this tendency to new experiences continued till it took the look to have an artwork with enough elements in order to have something different to say. These series of my works are examples, that which no one can call it as contemporary art, of-course their parts are not in the right place, but what I really aim to mention; is the fact that because of some replacements they are not artworks yet, here the art experience can be defined and searched for of what we are going to understand of the contemporary art concept. Hani Najm If we accept that the artwork is a reflection of external conditions, means the sounded facts and the social communication and relationship and the artist who is a product of this social relationship, create an artwork that is a reflection of something, has affected and has aroused him. He presents and illustrates this in a way and formation that is skillful. Here the young artist expresses and illustrates emotions and behavior of the people around him, including public transportation - bus, subway, etc. - or street and community centers, people who apparently have nothing to do, just physically located together, looking each other with piercing eyes and sometimes indifferent and sometimes wonder . The chiaroscuro images viewer with a sense of life and face the daily subsistence that is the main question today, even men who suffered and captured and even released from the bondage of routine life. Their faces and lines in the compressed representation that narrate a type of social behavior that represents alienation-if we don’t consider it as enmity and hatred- approached with caution and look of sympathy and understanding and movements of the hands and feet considered as mischievous curiosity. People want to interfere with others in case they feel danger, they ignore the reality of others and look amazing on his status. The painter in his introduction says: “I tried to deal with my model and feel like my model and show it, it means he goes through him who his face has been painted and reveal the secret of his ideas through his wrinkle and the reality of art is this Not the reflect of a mirror from an external reality. He doesn’t live in an isolated place. As I mentioned he is the product of social relations and his perception of human society and his surrounding community is what is available in his shrouding society. His joy and happiness ,resentment, calmness, his open mindedness and his prudery, his relationship and kindness, hatred and animosity and all characteristics that comes from the community because he lives with other and the environmental factors that is limiting other, limit him too. But also cannot ignore the fact that the environmental influences don’t affect people the same. It’s because of Weber's terms of personality and psychological structure of each person. That is why the summit of their faces and behavior is different and do not have similarity in appearance and behavior. Faces and behavior of characters are angry and resentful or indifferent look of curiosity and unwilling for Proximity .is not this the view of society and social relations and the Hostile temper people of these days? Having created and used new version of “Blast” technique, I became more capable of experiencing my attitude towards life: a mixture of creativity and accident. A combination of the two is now a way of representing my emotional perception of things. The way I look at objects is a path through which I can go beyond, “Surface” where something is hiding and accidentally shows itself. Now this technique of blast has become a medium to show this way of “Looking Art”, more effectively. Using blast, a simple vase of flowers is created uniquely, and to create that “accident” plays an inevitable role, perhaps just like life.

This is a word rapturous like itself: all things are circular, as if you are walking within the circle of being, with women – who are symbols of nature, birth and creation – dancing round in a ring in continuous turns, similar to the very word “Worwuja”, which is circular in both visual and semantic terms. The body is hidden, in these paintings, under colours and ethnic symbolism as in reality, too, the female body is absent. Hence a dichotomy between body and colour, manipulated to achieve a visual semiotics with sociological overtones. The major blurring of countenance and body tunnels towards the discourses of alterity on the expression of the female. Women leave their faces in perpetual motions and demonstrate their presence through colours. It is as though the eternal sound music has metamorphosed them in a way that they have lost their voices and sights; there remains only the dance- the rapturousness of absence. It is a controversy acting as a harsh prod, of which the artist relentlessly reminds the addressee.
