Uma velha lenda brasileira diz que a “Saudade” foi criada pelos deuses africanos para que os escravizados não se esquecessem de seus entes queridos, nem de onde vieram. Instigada pela doença do pai, a diretora brasileira negra Denize Galiao explora seus sentimentos mais profundos sobre seu lar e suas raízes, as quais não quer perder, após 20 anos vivendo na Alemanha. A palavra Saudade, que não pode ser traduzida em outra língua, é uma linha vermelha através da história de uma família que vive entre duas culturas diferentes.

An old brazilian legend says that “Saudade” was created by the African gods that the enslaved people don’t forget their beloved ones and where they come from. Triggered by the disease of her father the afro Brazilian directress Denize Galiao explores her deepest feelings for her home and her roots which she does not want to lose after 20 years of living in Germany. The word Saudade which cannot be translated into any other language is the red line through the story of a family that lives between two different cultures.

Denise Galiao é documentarista e editora brasileira baseada no Brasil e na Alemanha. Seu trabalho mais recente, o filme de conclusão de curso “Saudade”, ganhou em 2019 o prêmio de melhor documentário de estudante no Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) e o prêmio de melhor fotógrafo estudante para Dino Osmanovic no bosnian cinematografie award.

Denize Galiao is a brazilian documentary filmmaker and editor based in Brazil and Germany. Her most recent work, her graduation film “Saudade” won in 2019 the award for the best student documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and for the best student cinematographer for Dino Osmanovic at the bosnian cinematografie award.
