We are thrilled Curve Associate Artis t Akram Khan will be back to LE1 this autumn. Akra m is one of the foremost choreographers and artist s of his generation and we are delighted to be co-producing his latest production, XENOS. This mark s Akram’s final performance as a dancer and prom ises to be a profound and earth-shattering swan song. As the only venue in England outside of London to be presenting the piece, XENOS is certa inly not to be missed if you enjoy contemporary danc e. Another incredible dance piece not to be miss ed is Matthew Bourne’s award-winning Swan Lake , which will return to Curve this October – an extra matinee has been added due to popular demand, so get your tickets quick! In addition to our Made at Curve dance and musicals, we continue to produce new and established dramas. This autumn we will produce the world premiere of Riaz Khan’s Memoirs of an Asian Football Casual. A Made at Curve production based on Riaz’s recollection of his days as a football hooligan in Leicester’s notorious Baby Squad, the gang that crossed racial divides and created an unexpected utopia in a fast-changing city. Curve Associate Artist Dougal Irvine has adapted this incre dible slice of Leicester life for our stage. Filled with rough heart and humour, join us as we transform our Studio Theatre into the Filbert Street terraces. Following this, next year we will work with our friends at Jonathan Church Productions and Regent’s Park Theatre to produce and bring back the critically acclaimed To Kill A Mockingbird. However, before Harper Lee’s classic arrives, there’s plenty of touring drama to enjoy inclu ding Katori Hall’s Olivier Award-winning play The Mountaintop playing this autumn – a profoundly moving play celebrating the last night of the grea t changemaker Dr. Martin Luther King. And as the Great War centenary remembrances draw to a close, we are proud to present The Wipers Times, which celebrates the determination of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Christmas at Curve is always the highlight of our year and whilst Whit e Christmas plays in our Theatre, we are thrilled to be producing Dr Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat for cool kittens and their fami lies this December which will play in our Stud io Theatre. If you’ve enjoyed our Roald Dahl prod uctions over recent years, you will love the fun, anarchy and exuberance of this brand new prod uction. Our Associate Director Suba Das is charged with wrangling the naughty cat and he has assembled an astonishing creative team, including designer Isla Shaw and in charge of the groo vy feline tunes, our Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer Tasha Taylor Johnson. If you read Dr Seuss as a child, rest assured this production is for children from 4-84 years; Suba’s mad-cap approach will ensure it entertains children of all ages. Our Inside Out festival has grown from humble beginnings into a nationally recognised festival for new work, with many artists touring the UK and sharing work created here at Curve with national companies. This year’s festival is burs ting with new talent – our Andrew Lloyd Webber New Theatre Talent students will present Ché Walk er’s The Frontline, there’s poet-extraordinaire Rachael Young’s Nightclubbing and in the cente nary of the suffragettes, Elaine Pantling’s Alice : In Her Shoes. Curve wouldn’t be the success it is toda y without you. Thank you very much for your continued support. And many thanks to our princ iple funders Arts Council England and Leicester City Council for their continued faith and support. Here’s to the next ten years!

Following the huge success of Until the Lions, award-winning choreographer, dancer and Curve Associate Artist Akram Khan returns with his brand new production, XENOS. Marking his final performances as a dancer in a full-length piece, Akram Khan takes to the stage alongside five world-class musicians. The title XENOS means ‘stranger’ or ‘foreigner’. In this new solo work, Akram and his stellar team of collaborators draw on the archives of the 20th century, unearthing the experience of colonial soldiers in the First World War. XENOS takes place where humanity stands in wonder and disarray, on the border between East and West, past and present, mythology and technology.
MASTERCLASS FOR DANCERS, DANCE TEACHERS, STUDENTS & ARTISTS Led by Nicola Monaco, Rehearsal Director on XENOS Beginning with a warm-up developed through some of the aspects of Akram’s work, participants will be able to explore movement through exercises and tasks focusing on rhythm, speed, precision and clarity. The workshop will develop into learning phrases of movement from the Akram Khan Company Repertoire.

Tailored for customers who would benefit from a more relaxed performance environment. Audience members are free to make noise and, while the theatre doors will close, audience members can come and go as they please.
