RACHAEL YOUNG
I, MYSELF AND ME FRI 6 & SAT 7, 9.30PM & SUN 8 MAY, 7.15PM • RR2 “My name is Rachael. I’m 36 years old. I spend my days dodging suffocating visions of nuclear families in show homes and infuriating conversations with my alter ego Barry, whilst trying to ignore the impending doom that I’m running out of eggs. This is a show about all of that.” Set in a domestic dystopia, I, Myself & Me challenges the notion of a ‘one-size fits all’ path through life, unpacking the personal effects of social expectation and celebrating the act of sticking two fingers up and embracing your life just as it is. Drawing on surreal childhood fantasies and fragmented memories of love and loss, this autobiographical journey will invite you to consider the many relationships you have with yourself.

In 2012 three women made a daring and unusual journey from one end of Great Britain to the other. Trusting only their resourcefulness and the kindness of strangers, they made an 18-day, 874-mile journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats. In End To End they share moments of this true story, including encounters with a host of unusual characters, trials and tribulations faced along the way, and the unexpected acts of kindness they encountered. Exploring friendship, personal risk and momentary connections made on the road, they wonder whether the seeds planted will grow into something more meaningful. This unique journey will leave you itching for your own adventure.

SUN 15 MAY, 5PM – 6.30PM • FOYER What does theatre mean to the nation? As the UK’s budget tightens and public services are cut, the arts have never been more scrutinised. Theatre can be life changing for some people, whereas others would rather see funding go on a hospital or school. What do you think? What does theatre mean to you? Love it, hate it, or just don’t care? Join us over a drink in the Inside Out Park for an honest, informal discussion where all opinions are allowed. Hosted by Lyn Gardner and The Brick Box, share your experiences and ideas as we explore what theatre means to Leicester and to the nation. DIRECTOR JULIA THOMAS
Our Day Out is a poignant celebration of the joys and agonies of growing up, and of being footloose, fourteen and free from school!
Originally written for television by Willy Russell (Blood Brothers), this humorous and much-loved play is directed by Curve Resident Director Julia Thomas, and performed by students from De Montfort University.
Stopping off at the café, the zoo, the beach and the funfair, the children take advantage of the numerous opportunities to bicker, fool around, steal and get lost. But this is more than an extracurricular frolic, as the depressing present and empty future for these comprehensive kids becomes clear.
When Mrs Kay’s ‘Progress Class’ are set free on a coach trip to Skegness, they can hardly believe their luck… until killjoy Deputy Head Mr Briggs gets on board.
