Welcome to our 5th annual Inside Out Festival in the first decade of our theatre. We are in the middle of our 10th birthday celebrations and it is exciting to present this year’s explosive Inside Out Festival, which sees our building taken over by local artists and theatre makers. Theatre is all about challenging the times we live in, holding a mirror up to society and looking to the future; this festival does all of this brilliantly, embracing the turbulence and political uncertainties of our times, with a sense of fun and adventure. Our fearless artists and theatre-makers are tackling some of the major issues of our time – men’s mental health in Jack Britton’s Mighty; feminism and equality in a post #MeToo world with a festival takeover from all-female artist collective The Party Somewhere Else; Rachael Young’s performance of Nightclubbing and the return of Elaine Pantling’s Alice in Her Shoes. All this in the centenary year of women’s right to vote and with talks and panels throughout the festival, it’s a jam-packed festival where you will be entertained, challenged and inspired to consider the world in a different light. And we are especially looking forward to seeing what our Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation acting students have created. Alongside a programme of classes and masterclasses, the young local actors have been working with associate director Suba Das on Ché Walker’s 2008 play The Frontline. Our trainee actors are from our local area and the scheme enables them to continue with their jobs/regular lives, whilst receiving an introduction to actor training here at Curve. Thank you to Suba Das for curating this terrific schedule of work and to all of the talented artists who create the work. Without them – their bravery, brilliance and unique perspectives on the world – there wouldn’t be a festival; we are thrilled they have chosen Curve to showcase their work. Enjoy the shows – Challenge yourself and see something you might not usually see: You might love it or hate it, but you’ll never be bored. Let us know your thoughts and what we can do better next year. Thank you. Chris Stafford Chief Executive, Curve

WED 17 – SAT 20 OCT • STUDIO It’s Saturday night on the streets of a bustling city; a city filled with people from all walks of life, and all corners of the world, all searching for love, God, their next drink, or just somewhere to call home. Across the course of one night in this city, lost old men, vegans and strippers all collide in a rip tide of chaos. There’s Beth the reformed Christian and Erkenwald the hot dog seller; Ragdale on a quest to find his runaway daughter and Mordechai the unemployed actor desperately trying to sell his latest one-man show. Twelve stories of hope and heartbreak emerge in this modern classic by award-winning playwright, Ché Walker, first produced as a sell-out smash hit over two seasons at Shakespeare’s Globe. Now performed by the graduates of Curve’s new local actor training programme supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, this bold new production features original songs and modern pop hits orchestrated by award-winning East Midlands artists Sheep Soup.
