Jonathan Nelson

O

h, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, my name is Victory,” can still be heard on Sunday mornings sung by choirs, groups, & praise teams across the country five (5) years later after its initial 2008 release. Some music is considered a timeless classic & lives on well beyond its normal life expectancy, which is the case for many of the hit songs written by Stellar Award winner, Jonathan Nelson. Nelson has made an indelible impression in gospel music with various hits that he has written not only for himself & his group Purpose, but also for other gospel artists as well. His first recognition received was when the Stellar Awards crowned him Songwriter of the Year in 2006 for his hit song, “Healed,” which was recorded by Donald Lawrence. Nelson has also penned songs for JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, Maurette BrownClark, DeWayne Woods, & Bishop T.D. Jakes & The Potter’s House Choir to name a few.

No stranger to the church or music arena, Jonathan who is the son of a well-renowned pastor is considered a leader in praise & worship music based on his catalog of songs coupled with the delivery of their message that uplifts, encourages, & inspires. With three (3) cds under his belt, “Everything You Are: Live in Baltimore” released 2003, “Right Now Praise” released 2008, & “Better Days” released 2010, Nelson released his fourth (4th) cd this year, titled “Finish Strong,” which includes a remix of his hit song “My Name is Victory.” This latest release from Nelson offers a variety of music, much of which he co-wrote. The title cut “Finish Strong,” encourages the listener that having strong faith will result in a strong finish regardless of what it is he/she may face. The best part of the song is the catchy chant, “strong finish, strong finish, strong finish.” This song definitely sounds like another hit for this multiple award winning artist & songwriter.

This project is no different from any of Nelson’s earlier releases due to it containing several stand out tunes that are guaranteed to be heard on Sunday morning & at various musicals or concerts. Track 13, “Free” is a feel-good, up tempo song featuring his niece Jade Milan Nelson shows why we’ve come to love the various artists in the Nelson family, such as Jonathan’s twin brother Jason Nelson. With his ability to create, write, & minister songs that can be sung by anyone, anywhere at any given time, “Finish Strong” will not only be the title of his 4th cd release, but it will be the testament to the successful music career of Jonathan Nelson.

Bad Bold Lip Colors Yes or No!

T

his summer’s hottest trend seems to be the Big Bold Lip in a variety of bright, colorful popping colors. Sometimes we as women are so “traditional” and we tend to stick to the warmer or darker colors in the winter and the cool or pastel lighter colors in the summer. Well Diva’s times have changed and Bad Bold lips are now the BOMB! If you are stuck in a rut with your lip color or make up regime, at a bright bold lip! Some of the popular colors this summer season are the tangerines, poppies, multiple fuchsias, numerous shades of pink and the all time favorite brassy reds. Bold lips colors come tend to come in the highly pigmented matte lipstick for a dramatic effect. As a make up artist I prefer the lipstick form for better control in applying the product. Here are my favorite brands of Bold Lip Colors that I use and recommend: 1) Ka oir lip colors: My two favorites that I use are: RAQUEL which is a pretty purple and GORGOUS which is a sexy fire red. The Ka oir line is a very highly pigmented lip color and true to color as well. The product is very rich and lasts long. Sometimes I add a touch of lip-gloss to give it that extra pop. For a real dramatic effect I add the matching Glizts on top. 2) Inglot Lip Color: # 149, which is a pretty pink and # 202 of the Pacific Blues Collection. I LOVE IT. I just add a little lip-gloss to add some shine. The Inglot line of lip colors gives full rich color and this is also a highly pigmented product. 3) Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tar called HOOCHIE. This is a vibrant Magenta that is so so so hot. The lip tar collection is over the top pigmented so a little goes a long long way. When applying this product you can only use a small dot that will give you full lip coverage top and bottom.

28 Curvz June 2013

When applying these products don’t forget to do the following: a) Use a lip primer but very little. I suggest The Color Box By Maria Lip and Eye Primer. b) If the lip color is a Bold Red. Please use a lip liner. Red Lip color is one that tends to bleed. You don’t want to have bold lip color under your lips. c) For the best application technique. Use a lip bush. This way you have better control over the product when applying to your lips. I have several retractable lip brushes that I carry at all times. d) If you don’t apply glitter dust on top of your bold color here is a tip. Apply a light layer of color, apply a little translucent powder, and apply a second coat and just a touch of lip-gloss for a little shine.
