PREFACE The purpose of Pakistan Economic Survey is to provide a broad perspective of the national economy in the sphere of physical developments that took place and the policy initiatives that were taken during the current year. It is released annually before the announcement of the Federal Budget. It reviews the state of the economy and presents an analysis of policies, and programmes pursued by the government. The annual assessment of the economy is based on the latest data of the economy as available for the first 9 to 10 months. The current issue of the Survey also presents the key features of the reform packages that the present government has introduced to revive the economy. The Economic Survey is widely read and also extensively used by researchers in the country and abroad. Efforts have been made to make the document useful to its diverse readership. It contains the most recent and comprehensive information on the economy. I would like to thank various Ministries/Divisions/Agencies and Departments for efficiently supplying the required data to the Economic Adviser’s Wing. Without their help, it would not have been possible to release the Survey in time. I am also thankful to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Ministries of Railways, Water and Power, National Food Security and Research, Planning Development and Reforms and Inter Provincial Coordination.
