Did you know the famous tunnel chase scenes from cult classic The Italian Job were filmed in the sewers around Stoke Aldermoor in Coventry in 1969? Spring 2009 saw the city centre become over-run by hoards of schoolchildren complete with camels to boot for the shooting of the Christmas blockbuster – Nativity! Hyacinth Bucket and her hen pecked husband lived on Blossom Avenue, which was in fact Heather Road in Binley Woods, Coventry for Keeping up Appearances.

In the original The Haunting the external shots of Hill House were that of the Ettington Park Hotel in Stratford upon Avon, infra red film was used to emphasize the striations of the stone and make it look more menacing.

10.30am Why not move over to Coventry Cathedral, which is located just over the road from this superb museum, and uncover the city’s most famous landmark. From the mighty flagstones of Coventry’s magnificent Cathedral Ruins, to the visually stunning scenes from the top of St Michaels Tower. This is a blast from the past for many visitors, and will educate and enthral all at the same time.

10.00am After a refreshing start, head on over to the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, where you can find an exciting programme of events and exhibitions all year round, incorporating elements of this City’s rich history and future plans. 12.45pm I think it’s time for a spot of lunch and what better way than spending it in style by visiting Dogma Bar in the modern Priory Place. A tranquil and secluded spot right next to the famous Whittle Arches in Coventry city centre and the Walk Of Fame. You also have Nando’s just around the corner, and a wide variety of restaurants and eating spots back inside West Orchards Shopping Centre.

4.30pm After spending a few hours looking around the Museum’s fabulous exhibits, why not venture over to Coventry’s main shopping streets and centres. With a varying mix of national chains and independent boutiques, you really are spoilt for choice. Stop off for a well deserved drink at one of the many handy bars and cafes, and then head back to your hotel for a quick change into your night’s attire.

2.00pm Right, back on the road. After a promising morning exploring some of Coventry’s main attractions, why not continue the trend by visiting the fantastic and free Coventry Transport Museum off Hales Street, once again situated by the mighty Whittle Arches. The Museum is a haven for historic cars and bikes, exciting galleries and exhibitions, gift shops and cafes. With a whole days worth of things to see and do here, it’s no wonder it’s one of the best museums in the UK!

6.00pm I think its time for dinner, don’t you? Why not try some of Coventry’s divine restaurants, such as Cosmo, Pizza Express, Bella Italia, Old Orleans, China Red, Etna’s, Eden Restaurant or Turmeric Gold. Each offers a unique and diverse flavour to finish off that perfect stay.

8.00pm Time to see a show, so head on over to the ODEON at the Skydome Arena for the very latest movies on release, or try out Belgrade Theatre in the town for exciting performances that will leave the whole family entertained for hours at a time. If you’re feeling really adventurous, why not head out of town to one of the many entertainment centres around Coventry, such as G Casino at the Ricoh Arena, off Junction 3 of the M6, or Warwick Arts Centre on the University of Warwick Campus.

Belgrade Plaza Work continues on the 1.4-hectare mixed-use Belgrade Plaza scheme, which fought off competition from projects around the country to scoop the coveted Premier Guarantee Excellence Award for best mixed-use development in 2009.
