MEET THE BARCLAY BRASS The Barclay Brass is an ensemble comprising some of Washington, D.C.’s top brass musicians. Performers of the highest caliber, Barclay Brass members perform with premier military bands and major symphonies, and are in demand as freelancers all over the country. From the Pope to the President, members have performed for some of the highest of high-profile officials and ceremonies. These musicians created the Barclay Brass for the opportunity to perform a wide variety of classical music arranged specifically for brass instruments. For close to a decade, they have performed diverse genres of music – from patriotic and classical to ceremonial and seasonal – for audiences of all ages. In 2017, Barclay Brass was part of “The Force at 40” – the 40th anniversary celebration of the release of Star Wars, which was held at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. In 2018, Barclay Brass was featured in a video produced by TIME magazine and the Smithsonian to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick’s iconic film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Committed to education, Barclay Brass traveled to Akron, Ohio, in March 2019 to work with students at Kent State and the University of Akron. In 2020, the group played a concert and presented a masterclass at George Mason University with internationally renowned composer Johan de Meij, where they performed the North American premiere of arrangements of de Meij’s music for brass ensemble and percussion. During the 2020 pandemic, founding members have given masterclasses for students at the University of Maryland at College Park as well as at Oklahoma University.
