Original Direction for this version of “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” by Michael Mayer
Originally Produced in New York by Arthur Whitelaw and Gene Persson
YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Tams-Witmark
DIRECTORS' NOTE
In 1950, the “Peanuts” gang made its first appearance in seven newspapers. Over the next 50 years, Charles Schulz’s beloved characters became so popular that they appeared in 2,600 papers in 75 countries and 21 languages. What makes this group of children (and a dog) so universal? Across countries, languages, and even ages? Because we can all see ourselves in Charlie Brown. A boy who maybe isn’t the best at baseball or flying a kite but who is learning about himself and what makes him unique and special.
This show, originally written in 1967 with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner was done with a small six person cast. In 1999, there was a revival of the show that changed some of the characters and added new songs by Andrew Lippa. We added a few more of the famous gang to join the original six in our production. The show follows what could be a typical day for Charlie Brown that presents itself in a series of non-linear vignettes, similar to a comic strip.
The sarcastic nature, unflinching emotionality, inner thoughts of a household pet, and wild fantasies create a world full of fun, humor, and honesty. We hope you sit back, laugh, and enjoy playing with us!
