THE PERFORMERS ANNA HSU is a senior attending Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. She has studied piano for 13 years, with the last eight years under Robert Bond Kelley. She has won the WMTA Raissa Tselentis Award of Excellence, Second Place at the NVMTA Composition Competition, and Third Place at the WMTA Young Composers Competition. At school, Anna is the Co-President of the Colonial Chamber Players, TJ’s chamber music club. She has shared music in her community with seniors across the D.C. metro area through the Tacy Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to sharing the healing power of music. You can find Anna’s performances on her YouTube channel and her website, annahsu.dev. In her rare spare time, Anna writes websites, runs in her neighborhood, and builds mechanical keyboards. JUDE GIDDENS is a home-schooled high school senior. He has always loved music and started taking piano lessons at age six. He currently studies with Dr. James Litzelman. He enjoys trying out new pieces and techniques, and has performed in many local and national competitions. He has also given several community recitals. One of his favorite parts of performing publicly is exposing audiences to musical styles they might not have heard previously. In addition to playing music, Jude enjoys traveling, participating in speech and debate tournaments, and hiking. NICOLE PAPENFUSS is a 17-year-old home-schooled high school junior living in Fairfax, Virginia. She has been studying piano from the age of 5 and is a student of Silva Blazquez. She has been the winner in many competitions, including First Place in the WMTA Hartman and Specialty Competitions, the MSMTA Gottlieb Competition, the William Knabe Competition, the VMTA Northern District Auditions, the Springfield Music Club Composer Competition, and the NVMTA Concerto Festival, Piano Duet, Ensemble, and Achievement Awards Competitions. Nicole has also had many Second Place wins, including Old Dominion University Classical Period Competition, NVMTA Piano Achievement Awards, and the Robert Spencer Concerto Competition. In 2020, Nicole won Third Place in the MTNA Senior Piano Duet finals. She was also a finalist in the IYA Piano Competition. Nicole’s performances have included appearances at the Piano Prodigy Series at the Department of State and at the Alden Theater in McLean, Virginia. Nicole attends the Washington Japanese Language School on Saturdays and is fluent in Japanese. She likes reading, drawing, and riding her bike.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association is a non-profit organization of over 350 professional independent music teachers located in the Virginia suburbs of our nation’s capital. Members offer private and group instruction in piano, voice, and symphonic instruments. Since 1950, NVMTA has promoted high standards of music excellence by sponsoring many competitive and non-competitive events for students of all ages. Regular meetings present programs by nationally known experts and provide opportunities for networking and collegiality. This local organization is affiliated with the Virginia Music Teachers Association, the Music Teachers National Association, the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs, and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
