From abrasion tests to the tiger claw

QUALITY IS NO COINCIDENCE

Quality is no coincidence – quality is made. It may seem a simple concept, yet it is complex to achieve. In the case of our cookware, determining factors include physical principles such as the expansion of materials when heat increases, chemical knowledge when applying and annealing seals, and safety criteria when handling cookware. European and national standards also define many aspects of food safety.

The basic properties of the cookware can be improved, and adherence to standards can be more strictly executed, if you know your products thoroughly and test them regularly. As a result, a significant part of the workmanship takes place in the laboratory. The mechanical Tiger Claw, a testing machine that uses three ballpoint pen refills to scratch the surface of a hot, moving pan for three hours, is just one element in a well-engineered series of tests that are crucial for the development of durable products.

This is how we ensure our high standards for non-stick coatings, meet the requirements of the relevant standards, and optimize our products. You can be sure of this: before you or your customers test our cookware on your own stove, we will have rigorously tested it under all imaginable conditions.

We ensure that our products meet our high standards through extensive quality testing.

Balance® Enduro

WHEN THE CHIPS ARE DOWN

The patented reinforced 3 layer non-stick coating with a totally resilient surface sets new standards in durability and robustness. Extremely hard silicone carbide particles lend the coating its typically coarse structure which scores top points for both its long-lasting non-stick and its high resilience to scratches, abrasions and corrosion even when using metal kitchen utensils. When things get tough in the kitchen, BERNDES stays strong.

The name “Enduro” is derived from the latin word ‘durare” meaning toughen/harden. True to its name, the series features unrivalled toughness and extreme durability.

COOK NATURALLY

An environmentally conscious and healthy lifestyle is more than just a trend today: more and more people are opting for fresh organic food and are also paying attention to sustainability when cooking – from the conservation of resources to natural materials and waste disposal. For the sake of nature and the future.

For us at BERNDES, sustainability is not just a marketing term, but an attitude. With b.green, we set standards in terms of product sustainability. When producing our cookware we use secondary aluminium as standard – our Alu Recycled Induction series uses 100% recycled aluminium cans or containers. We reduce packaging material, dispense completely with composites and enable energy-efficient cooking and frying through optimal heat conduction. The b.nature coating is made of quartz, a naturally robust material, which also guarantees an aroma-neutral, unadulterated taste, 100% free of harmful substances like PFOA, Nickel or heavy metal. And can be fully recycled at the end of its life. For a small ecological footprint with maximum enjoyment.

THE FUTURE AT HOME

Cooking is about home and heart and we’ve always felt that home is where your stove is. These sentiments drive us to open our BERNDES home to you through this catalogue, our social medial channels, and at trade fairs and events. We are honoured to take you on a journey to where we’ve come from, and in looking back, it gives us the opportunity to also look to the future with anticipation for all the development and progress ahead. In this way, every BERNDES pan and pot that leaves our home to find a new one with you carries with it a piece of innovative tradition.

USE & CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Please read these instructions carefully before use. Proper use and cleaning of cookware is essential in order to ensure the best use of cookware over its lifespan. Failure to comply with these instructions may increase the likelihood to damage and otherwise affect the cookware performance. This may void warranties and guarantees which come with this product.

1. First use of cookware

(a) Remove all packaging and labels before use.

(b) Before first use, wash cookware in warm soapy water to remove any traces of residue caused by the manufacturing process.

2. General use of cookware

(a) Make sure the heating element matches the base size of the pan and does not extend beyond the edge; moderate heat is enough.

(b) Always ensure handles and knobs are not loose before use as this may cause personal harm or damage to cookware.

(c) To ensure ideal performance, use silicon, wooden or heat resistant nylon utensils with cookware.

3. Non-stick cookware

(a) Oil is not needed on non-stick cookware. Use low heat when heating oils.

(b) Do not use oil sprays on non-stick cookware as the ultra-thin layer of oil will quickly burn onto the non-stick surface when the cookware is heated.

The overuse of oil sprays results in an invisible build up which will impair the non-stick release system. To use oil sprays for flavour, lightly spray the food (instead of the cookware) before adding to the preheated cookware.

4. Stovetop use

(a) Always refer to the cooktop manufacturer’s instructions prior to using this item.

(b) Ensure flame does not extend beyond the bottom edge of the cookware.

(c) Make sure the heating element matches the size of the pan and does not extend beyond the edge; moderate heat is enough.

(d) Ensure cookware is stable on the cooktop surface or trivets of the gas cooktops to prevent tipping. For optimum stability, line up the handles of the item with the trivets.

(e) Position the pan so that handles are not over the heat source. Avoid handles protruding from the edge of the cooktop. These may be in easy reach of children or cause the item to fall off the cooktop, causing personal injury and/or damage to the item.

(f) Prolonged heating or overheating may shorten the life of the item, cause discoloration and damage of the article. For optimum results always use low to medium heat as this will lead to an even heat distribution, avoiding hot spots which may burn food.

(g) Do not leave unattended items on a hot cooktop; this is particularly important when using oil, as this may ignite causing a fire. Unattended items may become extremely hot and cause damages to persons and things.

(h) Do not leave utensils in the cookware during cooking.

(i) Do not leave food in the cookware after cooking. Do not use to store acidic or salty food. This will prevent damage to the coating and / or to the cookware.

(j) When deep frying avoid filling the pan beyond 2/3 of its capacity. Do not use lid when deep frying.

(k) Use on Ceramic Cooktops (Halogen and Induction): when using a ceramic cooktop, extra care should be taken to ensure that the base of the cookware and the surface of the cooktop are cleaned after every use, otherwise the cooktop may be permanently marked.

(l) Use on Induction Cooktops: When using on a “multizone” induction cooktop always put the item inside one zone and not across two zones. When using induction, noises are possible, particularly when using high power levels. These noises are caused by resonances between individual heat sources and items of cookware and are normal. To avoid damage to the coating, do not over heat the cookware for long periods when it is empty. Never leave a hot pan unattended.

5. Oven Use

(a) Cookware is oven safe to 180°C.

(b) Do not place handles directly under the heat source.

(c) Take caution when removing cookware from the oven. All cookware (including handles) will be extremely hot.

6. Glass lids

(a) Ensure glass lids are not placed on heating elements.

(b) Exposing glass lids to extreme changes of temperature may cause them to shatter.

(c) Do not use glass lids that have cracks or scratches.

7. Cleaning cookware

(a) Allow all cookware to cool to room temperature before cleaning. DO NOT apply cold water to cookware will warp or otherwise damage the cookware.

(b) We recommend handwashing cookware. The hardness of the dishwasher water and the aggressiveness of the dishwasher detergent can damage the properties of the interior coating of the cookware.

(c) If handwashing cookware, use warm water and dishwashing detergent.

(d) Do not use coarse or abrasive products (such as steel wool or scouring pads) on cookware.

(e) To remove burnt on food, soak cookware with three parts water to one part detergent or vinegar and bring to the boil then allow to cool. Then use a mesh pad or soft brush to remove remaining food.

(f) If burnt, some fatty foods (sausages, bacon, etc.) may leave a slight stain. To remove stains, fill the pan with hot water and some detergent, and then rub clean with a soft cloth.
