Home Organization Tips and Tricks

If your current organization system is failing here are a few tips that can help you get back on track: Start in one part of your home and evaluate one room at a time to decrease chances of becoming overwhelmed by the task. Remove clutter as you go by creating piles labeled “keep”, “toss” and “donate” to make it easy to sort.

Maximize vertical space with stacking containers, preferably drawers that you are able to access without unstacking. Look for additional storage opportunities in wasted spaces such as the top of a closet, under the stairs, beneath the sink, or under the bed. Don’t treat drawers as catch-all’s. Use mall bins, baskets, or organizers to consolidate like-kind items. Place most frequently used items in the most accessible place.

Clean off flat surfaces and stage them with a center piece, framed photos, or a candle, as a reminder that the surface is not a catch-all. Keep it up! Now that your system is in place, continue to use it to avoid clutter build up. Put a note in your calendar to evaluate your system a few weeks from now to see if it’s still working for you.
