confidently know how to swim and float in water. Never swim alone. Only swim in lifeguard-supervised areas. Never dive headfirst into any pool or body of water unless area is clearly designated for diving without obstructions. Maintain constant supervision of children near water, regardless of their skill level or age. Always teach children to ask permission to go swimming. Even if you are not swimming always be cautious around all natural bodies of water. Anytime you go out in a boat, make sure someone knows where you are going and how long you plan to be out. Check weather reports, and stop boating if you see or hear of a storm.

well, and make sure everyone on board has a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket.
