Forklift Safety Operation Course Description: Forklifts, known as powered industrial trucks and used in numerous work settings, primarily to move materials. At US workplace, tens of thousands of injuries related to powered industrial trucks (PIT), or forklifts, occur per year. Workers died from traumatic injuries in forklift related incidents from 1980 to 1994 based on The National Traumatic Occupational Fatalities Surveillance System (USA). Of their significant findings, the forklift, the factory environment, and actions of the operator can all contribute to fatal incidents involving forklifts. Furthermore, employee injuries and property damage can be attributed to lack of safe operating procedures, lack of safety-rule enforcement, and insufficient or inadequate training. Thus this is course was designed to insure competence of forklift operators and quality safe work procedure as well as to meet the formal instruction requirements as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.178.

Who Should Attend? All employees who have the forklift safety responsibilities.

Benefits of the Course: At the end of this course, participant should be able to demonstrate understanding of the content through application of knowledge to familiar and unfamiliar situations. In particular they should be able to: o Understand related forklift safety requirements & procedures: o Display the ability to recognize the forklift’s instruments and controls, common hazards associated with forklift operation and OSHA-required safe work practices for forklift operation; and o Simulate operating a forklift;
