Cypress Christian Football would like to thank all our fans, parents, donors, and sponsors for making it a great year. Without your support the Warriors would not be poised to return to the playoffs for the third straight year. We hope you enjoy all the action as the Warriors take the field for the 2010 football season.

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
OUR FOOTBALL PHILOSOPHY
At Cypress Christian School, we believe in providing as many opportunities as possible for our students to grow spiritually, academically, and physically. Our athletic programs are designed to build both physical strength and personal character. Furthermore, keeping a high degree of physical fitness increases a student’s ability to concentrate in the classroom.
Football at Cypress Christian is much more than a competitive game that young men play.
It is an
intentional curriculum that uses football to build men. On the field of athletic competition, many qualities are developed in an individual that are beneficial in all other areas of life. Such qualities include an appreciation for hard work, self-discipline, commitment to a common goal, loyalty, dependability, the ability to deal with loss and adversity, the ability to receive instruction, sacrifice, and teamwork. In addition to all of these benefits, it is great fun to both participate in sports as an athlete and to watch as a parent or sports fan. In all of our athletic programs, our underlying goal is to honor the one that gave us our abilities. As it is written: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31
The intent is to produce men that will live with reckless abandon for Christ in all things at all times; men that will be the same in public as they are in private; men
For every player to know Christ and to make Him known
Purpose Statement The purpose of Cypress Christian Football is threefold: 1. Use football to teach principles and values that will result in the building of courageous men who will live sacrificial lives to the glory of God both on and off the field 2. Purposefully build deep meaningful relationships that will last a lifetime 3. Develop each player to be the best football player he can be

Goal
Colossians 3:17—“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:23-24—“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Biblical Football Is Competing success will not be measured in wins and losses, but in how well we close the gap between our potential and our performance as players and as men. In fact, it will probably take ten years to determine just how successful this season really will be.

By the Power of God According to the Word of God For the Glory of God
Excellence in Competition If we are going to worship through football, then we must pursue excellence on the field. We must strive to put the best team on the field with the goal of exceeding our potential as individuals. We will strive for excellence as coaches by developing the best offensive and defensive schemes to fit our personnel.
Values: Love, Faith, Humility, Perseverance, Commitment, Trust, Encouragement, Contentment, Courage, and Servant Leadership
A Different Kind of Program
Message from Marsha Martin, Athletic Director Our theme this year is “ALL for HIM.” The scripture reference is Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” If our only purpose is to win games, then we will suffer disappointment and frustration. If we teach our athletes to go for the individual fame and honor, then we are leading them in the way of the world. “By focusing our attention on the person of Jesus and aligning ourselves with Him and His word, we are giving our ALL for HIM. Our character becomes more and more like His.” Our sense of purpose comes from knowing Christ as our Lord and Savior. That is our first responsibility to these students. We must lead them to Jesus Christ. Once they have made that commitment, then we can help them understand how to grow in that relationship with the Lord. The next step is to help them learn to stand up for what is right. I Corinthians 15:58 says “be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” As we can attest, this is not easy, but it is right.

2010 SEASON PREVIEW
2010 2-DEEP DEPTH CHART
Closing the Gap The football program at Cypress Christian continues to grow. The high school will have over 50 players with the middle school program adding another 40 players to bring the total number to around 90 players. Warriors have also added 60 years of coaching and playing experience to the coaching staff with the addition of Coaches: Gentry, Laidlaw, and Fields. Coach Spenn has become a full time administrator at Cypress Christian and with the addition of Gentry and Laidlaw as teachers we will now have three coaches on campus full time. The Warriors return 18 starters with all 11 starters on defense coming back. Expectations are high and so is the commitment level of the players. Summer strength and conditioning workouts were both the toughest and the best attended they have ever been. The Warriors should be a favorite to repeat as district champs and make a deep playoff run. The road is not easy as the Warriors will play the higher division for three straight non-district road games (Northland, Westbury, and Second Baptist) and then come home to face two time defending Division IV champion, Canyon Creek Richardson. The District will remain small but look different as Faith West replaces Pope John Paul the 23.
OFFENSE Jonathan Mason is back from knee surgery and Jason Groll is running strong behind would should a tremendous offensive line that is anchored by Philip McCurry at the left tackle. The Warriors will be replacing three members of the receiving core but several young players are ready to go. Garret Higginbotham and Ben Mitchell should continue to be favorite targets on the edge.
DEFENSE When you return 11 starters and add in some new athletes it is hard not to be excited. Our new coaches are bringing some new wrinkles and moving some athletes around, especially in the secondary which should make a good defense great. The defensive line will lead by Division I prospect, Daniel Rodriguez while two all state linebackers, Kyle Francis and Michael Gamble will be starting for their fourth seasons at linebacker. Kyle Moon will be moving to safety to join forces with Taylor Brown who led the team in interceptions last season with 5.
SPECIAL TEAMS Austin Barton should be kicking the ball through the end zone on a regular basis and be automatic from inside the 35 when it comes to field goals. An increased focus on special teams this season should produce great results.

2010 PLAYER PROFILES
The 9 Principles
2010 PLAYER PROFILES
SENIORS
1. Called to Love • Our responsibility is to Love: Coaches must love the players and players must love each other. 2. Relationship Driven • Be intentional about building community, encouraging and motivating through love. • Players will be called to publicly encourage one another. 3. Servant Leadership • Captains will serve the team, and the varsity will learn to serve the middle school team. 4. Humility – Be the First to Give All • Faithful, Available and Teachable 5. Live Lives of Sacrifice • The player must die to themselves for the sake of the team. • Being part of a team is being part of something bigger than ourselves. • Being part of team means we give up rights and gain responsibilities. 6. Success measured in how we “Close the Gap” • We are competing against our own best self to close the gap between our potential and our performance. • We want a player’s best every day in every situation, but what God desires for us is greater than that—it is perfection. 7. Persevering with Eternal Perspective • Pursuing excellence on and off the field through Christ is a life long journey, not a short-term goal. • Success is a road, not a destination. • You can always do one more: one more block, one more tackle, one more sprint. 8. Live with Passion • God wants us to give the maximum effort in all things, at all times. 9. Love to Lose • We love and want to win every game, but it is only a byproduct of true success; therefore, we are free to play at our best because there is no fear of losing. • God’s victories often come through our defeats and, as a result, our character gets refined.

Coach Spenn is entering his third season as the head coach and his fifth overall season at Cypress Christian. As head coach he has led the Warriors to a 14 – 9 record, a District Championship in 2009 and two straight playoff appearances in his first two seasons. However, his passion is for mentoring and building Godly men through the game of football. Everything we do as a football program needs to be focused on building men, not just physically but spiritually as well. Coach Spenn played football collegiately at Taylor University (’95-’98) as a wide receiver and that remains his favorite position on the football field to coach. Prior to becoming the head football coach, he was the head middle school coach at CCS for two years and coached middle school football at First Baptist Academy the four previous seasons. He lives in northwest Houston with his wife Bethany and they have four children, Rylin (5), Carson (4), Noah (2) and Selah (6m) who are all regular attendees on Friday nights.

This will be Coach Powers third season at Cypress Christian. It will be his second season as the defensive coordinator and working with the linebackers. Coach Powers is a graduate of Cypress Christian.
Coach Spenn on Bobby: He is a high energy football coach with a depth of experience and knowledge that cannot be matched. Having him at spring practice made us instantly better and having him on campus full time in the fall will do even more for our program.

2009 SEASON REVIEW 2009 Season Team Totals (12 Games) Offense
Chris Laidlaw
Wes Van Pelt
William Fields
Special Teams Coordinator Running Backs
Head Trainer Quarterbacks
Defensive Backs
Coach Laidlaw joins the Cypress Christian Football staff and faculty for the first time this season. He has 10 plus years of coaching experience mostly at the collegiate level along with college playing experience. While his primary responsibility will be our running backs he will also be in charge of our special teams and helping with our defensive backs.
Coach Van Pelt has been coaching football at Cypress Christian for nine seasons. This will be his second season working with the quarterbacks. He also spends a good deal of his time keeping the Warriors on the field as our trainer.
Coach Spenn on Chris: It will be a great blessing to have Chris on our staff and on campus full time. He has made a great connection with the kids and is a great communicator of football and life to them.
Coach Spenn on Wes: He has a unique perspective that helps him to connect with the players as a great coach and a great mentor.
Coach Fields will be coaching football for the first time but has a distinguished career as a player where he played four seasons for the University of Houston and then 8 seasons professionally in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League. Coach Spenn on Will: He has a great understanding of the game and his playing career has earned him the respect and trust of the players which gives him a great opportunity to teach the game of football.
Volunteer Assistants: We have two volunteers that help out at practice and at games on a regular basis. Many other volunteers – from team mom’s and chain crew members, to statisticians and filmers – make Friday nights possible at Cypress Christian. Tim Bancroft – Quarterbacks

You are not just supporting football, as some of the funds go to the overall athletics booster account and the school’s benevolence fund, to offset the overall cost of the football program, and to maintain and improve our athletic facilities.
