The GMDMA is an outgrowth of the East Denver Ministers Alliance that was organized in the early 1940’s as a voice of hope for the disenfranchised and underprivileged Afro-American Community. The original focus was to edify and strengthen the ministry of the Black Church and provide a sounding board for registering complaints from the citizen in the Five-Point Community. Our social focus has always been targeted towards those who have suffered discrimination, socio-economic disadvantages, or unequal access to the benefits that should be afforded to all citizens of our community. For more than 70 years the GMDMA has been the strong voice of hope for change and empowerment in the Metro-Denver Community. We have stood on the cutting edge of the fight for Freedom and Racial Equality. GMDMA was a bridge that provided a pathway for the Black Community that had been held hostage between Downing and High Street from the 1930’s to the 1950’s, to migrate from High street to Steele Street and ultimately from Steele Street to the Park-Hill Community in the 1960’s to 1970’s.

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it. –Martin Luther King, Jr.
