HOUSTON’S NEXT MAYOR: DR. JACK CHRISTIE DR. JACK CHRISTIE IS ASKING YOU TO JOIN HIM ON A MISSION TO SAVE HOUSTON!

mote beneficial programs, using experience and a lifetime of dedication to Houston.

As a successful doctor, business owner and meritorious local leader, Christie has won 15 elections in Houston, garnering over 97,000 votes in his last election for Houston City Council At-Large. His record on achievement in our city is what everyone wants to reinstate – trust in City Hall, along with a stronger economy, improved environment and safety, and a better quality of life for all Houstonians.

THROUGH THE YEARS CHRISTIE HAS WORKED TIRELESSLY TO SERVE HIS COMMUNITY, INCLUDING: • 5th Ward Ice Skating Christmas Party, an event he founded and hosted annually for 35 years

Christie has treated 20,000 patients from all walks of life and from every corner of Houston. These patientsturned-friends reflect the diversity of Houston and include countless business and community leaders. Christie’s mission is to build a better community by identifying and supporting changes that voters over and over want: more police on the street; reduced traffic congestion through improved streets; enhanced green spaces; and work with local employers to “hire Houston” citizens. He is committed to maintaining policies by his previous voting record to pro-

• served on Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston Board of Directors for 5 years; volunteered as a Big Brother for 8 years • helped with rescues and clean up after Hurricane Harvey • Paid school lunch debt for students at 9 HISD schools ($28,000) • Donated $500 for graffiti removal on walls of Buffalo Soldiers Museum • Mowed baseball and football fields at Worthing HS • Donated partial City Council salary to 20 underserved schools • gave $1,000 to Yates HS for new band uniforms

Christie, who currently oversees a practice that treats over 35,000 patients right here in Houston, is the only candidate in the mayoral race who has won a citywide Houston election as a three-term Councilman At-Large. Christie previously served as Chairman of the State Board of Education, and President of the Spring Branch School Board. During his 22 years in public office, Christie represented his constituents with perfect attendance. Our city’s population has grown by 500,000 people and yet our police force is the same size as it was 10 years ago. That’s why one of his first actions as your next mayor will be to secure funding for 500 new HPD officers. Our firefighters deserve a pay raise--he’ll see that they get it. As your mayor, police officers and firefighters will have no greater ally. Leaning on his experience in business and government, Christie will help eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in City Hall. We’ve learned the hard way how our financial instability can undermine public safety. Christie knows how to get it under control because he did it in 2017 when he spearheaded the reduction of the city’s pension debt by over 60 percent.

As your next mayor, Christie will bring big, bold ideas to improve the lives of all Houstonians: • Privatizing our waste department will lead to better service and better jobs for our community • Cutting taxes will lead to economic growth which will actually result in more tax revenue • Improving public safety will make Houston more attractive to new businesses • Prioritizing preventative healthcare will improve long-term quality of life Christie says Houston has unlimited potential if we make the right decisions. “They say doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Let’s do something different and get RESULTS for a change. Better jobs, smoother roads, and safer neighborhoods are all within reach,” adds Christie. Christie asks that Houstonians join the movement to save Houston by supporting the Jack Christie campaign for mayor. Learn more or get involved at ChristieForMayor.com.

Political Report

$2.5 Billion Bond Overview Harris County Hospital District d/b/a Harris Health System is the public healthcare provider serving the residents of Harris County through an integrated network of two hospitals (Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson) and nearly 40 clinics, health centers and specialty facilities. Its mission is to improve the health and well-being of all residents, through comprehensive medical services and programs delivered in collaboration with academic and medical school partners: Baylor College of Medicine, UTHealth Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Background: Harris County’s population has nearly doubled in the time since Harris Health’s two hospitals opened more than 30 years ago, and this rapid growth is projected to continue. This places significant pressure on Harris Health’s infrastructure with its facilities often exceeding capacity. Proposal: The bond will support Harris Health’s proposed $2.9 billion strategic facilities plan, which calls for new construction and renovations to meet the growing needs of Harris County. Tax Impact: If approved, financial support of the bond translates to about a two cent tax increase for property owners—meaning an owner of a $300,000 property would pay about $6 a month for the bond. Timeframe: Pending approval of the bond, construction of a new hospital on the LBJ campus and planning and design for the new community clinics and upgrades to Ben Taub Hospital begin in 2024.

What’s in the plan? New Trauma Hospital on LBJ Campus $1.6 billion for the construction of a new hospital on the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital campus, to include Level I trauma capability. The new hospital also will nearly double inpatient bed capacity, add new services to treat conditions like heart attacks and strokes, and address other service gaps.

Community Clinics $504 million for new community clinics and improvements to existing community clinics to promote overall health and disease prevention. Harris Health plans to establish new sites in Northwest, Southwest and East Harris County to serve the evolving population densities and reach more of the community.

Political Report

Houston’s mayor, Sheila will SHEILA JACKSON LEE As fight to balance the budget for has been a tireless, consistent “servant leader” for the historic 18th congressional district of Texas in the U. S. House of Representatives for over 28 years. Prior to that, she served on Houston City Council as an At-Large member. She has been a tireless champion for Houston.

As a wife and mother who has raised her family in Houston, Sheila knows firsthand what this city offers including its unique diversity, and she has a clear vision on how to move Houston forward. She has continued to focus on leveling the playing field for working families, expanding economic opportunities, protecting voting and reproductive rights and promoting public safety. Houston deserves an inclusive and experienced leader as the next mayor, who will be able to continue to bring much needed funding to Houston from various resources. Houston needs a mayor who will stand up to those in state government who want to overturn our elections and take over our schools. There’s no one who has been a more effective advocate and fighter for this city than Sheila Jackson Lee.

our continued prosperity. She will prioritize enhancing our infrastructure by upgrading our water systems & streets. She will make sure that we bring more jobs and opportunities here to Houston. For safer and cleaner communities, we must stop illegal dumping. She will ensure that as our city continues to grow, our small businesses and our union workers are getting a seat at the table. We need to increase access to affordable housing and address homelessness in the city. And we need to have safer neighborhoods which starts with building trust between our community members and law enforcement agencies through accountability and transparency. Sheila is proud of the work she’s done advocating for Houston in Washington – building the workforce, uplifting our small businesses, passing the Violence Against Women Act, and fighting for safer communities. But the job’s not done. We know that Sheila Cares and Sheila Delivers! Sheila is excited and ready to come home to keep working to help move Houston forward!
