Jonathan Martin is a familiar face to many in Houston, as the weekday anchor of FOX 26 News at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Since joining the FOX 26 News team in May 2016, Jonathan has covered some of Houston's biggest events. He anchored more than twenty hours of coverage as Hurricane Harvey ravaged the Texas coast. He also helped lead the station's coverage of the Astros World Series win, Super Bowl 51, and the funeral for George Floyd.
Previously, Jonathan worked as a reporter and anchor in New Orleans, Nashville, and Augusta, Ga. He began his career as an intern and field producer at WSB-TV in Atlanta. However, his love for broadcasting started in elementary school, when he was selected as the anchor of “OK Live,” a daily-televised morning program. He went to work on the yearbook staff in middle and high school.
Martin is a four-time Emmy nominee and has received several Associated Press honors for his work. He is a strong mentoring advocate. For years, he has worked closely with Big Brothers Big Sisters. He also founded ‘Beyond the Game,’ a high school initiative created to inspire young men of color in Houston. He also joined former Texans player Wade Smith on his ‘Reading with the Pros’ literacy initiative in Houston-area elementary schools.
As a former athlete, Jonathan is a health and fitness advocate. He collaborated with Houston’s Parks & Recreation Department to create SWEAT TX, a fitness program to encourage kids to stay active. Recent studies have shown one-third of Houston-area children are obese.
The reporter also enjoys hip-hop dance! In 2018, he won "Dancing with the Houston Stars," an annual fundraiser for Urban Souls dance company. In 2017, the anchor received a proclamation from Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, declaring September 24 as “Jonathan Martin Day,” in Houston. It was recognition for his consistent work in the community.
One of his favorite quotes comes from an African proverb, “Care more than others think is wise. Risk more than others think is safe. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible.”
Martin is an Atlanta native and graduate of Auburn University. He credits much of his success to his loving parents, who encouraged him to pursue his passion and always remain humble.
He is always looking for news tips and ways to help in the community.
