People FOR People food bank On May 9th, 2015, Rosemead Key Club participated in the People for People Food Bank Drive. We began from 2PM and ended around 6:30PM. Volunteers arrived at the Rosemead Post Office! to help sort out canned and boxes of goods to deliver to people in need during this season. Most members arrived earlier than the starting time and told past memorable stories to each other as they waited for instructions. Once we began, instructions were given and volunteers did as they were told. We helped sort certain boxes and canned goods into the post office mailing boxes for easier transportation. After sorting, our volunteers then loaded the mailing boxes into the truck that would soon deliver these goods to help a community in need. Our members had lots of fun being able to help out in those who do not have what we have on a daily. The Food for People’s vision to have a community where no one is hungry and everyone will have access to quality and nutritious meals. Everyone will understand that everybody has a role in helping to create a strong and healthy community. Rosemead Key Club believes the same with Food for People. We believe in order to achieve our goals such as helping to eliminate hunger that we must work together and help out in many ways as possible. !

yearbook distribution party Study for finals? Check. Pass AP tests? Check. Volunteer at the yearbook distribution party? Double check! As school ends, students face endless tests and cram all night long but that does not stop our dedicated key clubbers from volunteering. On Friday the 15, volunteers attended Mark Keppel High School’s very first yearbook distribution party. The party was hosted by our fabulous yearbook staff and included fun activities such as yearbook signing, selfie contests, and even included a photo booth. There could not be possibly a better way to relieve stress and celebrate the end of advance placement testing than this! Annabelle Lau, the volunteer coordinator, remarked that, “The event was a great success! With the help from all our volunteers, we managed to get everything done quickly and smoothly. The event would not have been possible without our sublime volunteers!”!

PROJECT neO On May 16, in Downtown Monterey Park, I attended the event named Project Neo. The event was hosted to promote free tutoring for kids of all ages to help them do better in school. During the event, there was a big parade that featured fancy cars, school marching bands and a big rubber duck, which was Project Neo’s mascot.. The parade was just amazing and interesting. The huge rubber duck really drew my attention because of how big and cute it looked. I really enjoyed going and seeing many people watching the parade and going to the carnival. Overall I think project neo went well and was very organized.!

On a Saturday morning, I participated in Barnes Park's Play Days Festival specifically, the segment of Project Neo. While it was a short few miles of walking and advertising this wonderful program, it was fun. Though many of the volunteers were a bit shy to shout several of chants, the employees of the program cheered and shouted with vivaciously. In some time, the volunteers themselves started chanting as well which led me to be inspired to be always enthusiastic and show the passion of your duties when trying to inspire others.!

San GABRIEL featured Member Sydney Nomura serves San Gabriel High School with services ! Behind all the glamour of the Key Club community, service is the foundation. For San Gabriel High School, incoming junior Sydney Nomura helps set that foundation by finding different services each month as part of her duty in the Service Committee. ! Nomura has been a part of the Service Committee since the 2014 District Convention. Ever since then, she has found over 20 services San Gabriel High School. These services range from volunteering at the St. Francis Homeless Shelter to runs filled with bouncy houses. ! “I mainly look for services that have a cause. I also try to find services that will be fun for volunteers,” Nomura said. “My main motivation [for finding services] is seeing our members go to all these services [that] I find and have fun.”Nomura’s journey in Key Club began her freshman year. After participating in various services throughout the year, Nomura wanted to contribute more to her Key Club. She felt that being a general was not “enough” for her, as she wanted to go the extra mile. “I wanted to join key club because I wanted to help out in any way [possible when] I saw how enthusiastic other members were which encouraged me to join as well,” Nomura said. After being reelected, Nomura looks forward to finding more services for San Gabriel High School Key Club.! Thomas Wang, General Member, San Gabriel
