DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH KEY CLUB being in key club since freshman year, it’s been treating me well! I’ve met so many people and built relationships that I never would’ve had the opportunity to before. key has definitely helped me grow as a person and a leader! WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME YOUR CLUB’S PRESIDENT? I wanted to give back to the club that’s given me so much. key has been a fun part of my high school experience and I hoped to emulate that for younger members! I’ve also had the experience working with our prior presidents and was inspired by the things they did! HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT YOUR TERM, WHAT DO YOU HOPE COMES OUT OF IT? so far, I feel great about my term and im so excited to see what the rest of the term has in store for us! I’m really excited to start incorporating in-person services again after going virtual due to the rise in cases. I hope to further grow our club in membership and spirit! everything I’ve accomplished so far wouldn’t have been possible without my amazing top 5 members & cabinet <3 WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF MUSIC, ANY SONGS YOU LIKE RIGHT NOW? right now, my favorite types of music are kr&b and r&b! songs that’ve been on repeat for me are for you (LeeHi & crush) and no love (summer walker & sza)!

The month of January surely was the start of a happy new year for Alhambra Key Club! Although COVID regulations have become stricter, members still find ways to be active with volunteering through virtual activities provided by the Top 5 officers. Alhambra Key engaged with Ocean Hero this month, a search engine similar to Google or Bing. With every 5 searches, 1 plastic bottle is collected from the ocean. Ocean Hero encouraged members to take part in cleaning up the pollution in our beautiful seas, and the club was excited to do so even if it had to be from behind their screens. Alhambra Key also participated in playing Free Rice, an app that tested members on their vocabulary knowledge through fun trivia games. Every question a member answered donated a grain of rice to communities in need, an important effort that Alhambra Key looked forward to being a part of. At the end of January, Alhambra High School hosted their Club Fair. During this fair, clubs were allowed to set up booths and advertise to underclassmen and upperclassmen alike. With her spirit stick and countless Key Club International apparel laid out on a table, President Madison David along with other club officers proudly represented the Alhambra Key Club booth. Many students flocked to the booth, extremely interested in becoming a Blue Turtle and listened intently to President David’s mini-presentations explaining what Key International does as a service club. To become a part of Alhambra Key, prospective members must complete at least 10 hours of community service (ie. recycling bottles, helping a teacher organize after school) and attend open meetings to hear more information on member requirements. After seeing so many students with a passion for volunteering, Alhambra Key is excitedly looking forward to having future Blue Turtles join them!

This month was pretty quiet compared to the rest as there were significantly more restrictions again due to the surge of new Covid-19 mutated viruses spreading around LA county. The events that did occur are the following: Officer Forum: This month we had an officer forum on Sunday January 30th where information was given on the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Tech Editor for those who were interested in running for an officer position for the next term. Snow Way Home: There was also a virtual DCM that was held on zoom that included D10S, D10N, and D35W. It’s theme was called “Snow Way Home” in reference to the new Spider-Man movie that came out at the time.

A brand new service was put out for the eagles this month. Collaborating with in-person tutoring organization Pearl Academy, members of Gabrielino Key Club had an opportunity to tutor children from nearby schools in the district. Afterschool, members made their way to Mckinley elementary school to tutor children using their math and english skills. Working with kids is not always the easiest, but these volunteers were excited to provide the knowledge they once learned about to some eager students. It was definitely a pearl-fect experience to help these children learn a lot more outside of their normal school experience!

The month of January was quite laid-back. Not much happened because a lot of our members were out due to Covid-19. We were super excited for the annual Chinatown Firecracker Run, but now it’s going to be held virtually due to the surge in Covid-19 cases. Thanks to our club president, Jason Yuan, we will be having an in-person service event in March. This time, it’s the Los Angeles Marathon 2022, and we’ll be volunteering at the Water Station at Mile 2. We also introduced February Services, and the service this month is Beanbeanbean. Finally, we’ve started planning our boba fundraiser that we’ll be having very soon, our officer election, and our end of the year banquet. All we need to do is figure out a date.

Hi Blue Turtles! My name is Chloe Liu and I am so incredibly honored to serve as Division 10 South’s next Lieutenant Governor. As a new elect, I can’t help but look back on everything that has brought me to this moment in time. Stepping outside my circle allowed me to connect with other Key Clubbers through the attendance of DCMs, service events, and Fall Rally! My love for Key Club has grown tremendously throughout these past 3 years and I am so excited to share my passion for creating friendships through service with you all! I look forward to getting to know YOU better on our high school journey together and hope that I can help create a warm and welcoming environment for you in Key Club <3. See you at our February DCM!
