DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH KEY CLUB I have had a fantastic experience so far. I have only been in Key Club for two years, but I have already made so many great friends. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME YOUR CLUB’S PRESIDENT? My story is a little different from other presidents. During my sophomore year, I saw that there were no service clubs that were open to the whole student body. We had NHS, but there was a GPA minimum. At the start of my junior year, I decided to contact then-LTG Jerica Fang and, after a lot of work, brought Key Club back to my school after it had been dormant for a few years. HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT YOUR TERM, WHAT DO YOU HOPE COMES OUT OF IT? I'm feeling pretty good. I'm really excited that in-person events are starting up again. My club just had our first in-person service event of the term this past month! WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF MUSIC, ANY SONGS YOU LIKE RIGHT NOW? Right now I really like anything from the early 2010s.

The month of November was quite eventful for members of Alhambra Key Club, especially seniors! Though the first round of college applications are due right around the corner, this has not inhibited the strong commitment of these members to the club. Alongside her Top 5 officers, President Madison David introduced 2 virtual services and 3 in-person services that gave members unique opportunities to take part in their local community. The first of the two virtual services was a mobile application called Shaved the Day. Members would play the game similar to Subway Surfers, with a maximum of 3 hour screen time sent to their respective Vice-Presidents. The second virtual service was Ocean Hero, a search engine used to collect one ocean-bound plastic bottle for every five searches. At a maximum of 30 searches, members could earn up to 3 hours! On November 6, 2021, Alhambra Key Club kicked off the month with an in-person service opportunity at the Alhambra neighborhood clean up. Alongside neighbors of their community, the members worked together to pick up litter, rake leaves, and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable environment for us to live and work. The following week on November 11, Alhambra Key Club joined their Kiwani members in laying the foundations for the new children’s playground at the YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley. In support of the Alhambra High School football team making it into the semi-finals of CIF-SS, club members helped to manage and sell goods at the PTA snack bar on November 19. Last but certainly not least, members partook in the Salvation Army Bell Ringing Service on November 27th just outside the Ralph’s market in South Pasadena. With so many in-service opportunities, it’s safe to say Alhambra Key Club members celebrated Thanksgiving all month long as they prided themselves in their devoted service to the community. As the semester comes to an end, President Madison David has been working closely with Treasurer Michelle La to start the apparel process for the 2021-2022 school year. In order to lower apparel costs for all members, Alhambra Key Club held a mango chili lollipop fundraiser from November 9-17. Each member was given a bag of 40 lollipops at the weekly general meeting and asked to sell each one for $0.50. Though the exact amount raised from the fundraiser remains unclear, the club is projected to make over $1,000 in profit – a success to the club and its diligent members.

During the beginning of November, Gabrielino Key Club made their way to the Sacred Heart Retreat House for the 40th Annual Fall Family Festival! In addition to enjoying the event, Key club volunteers helped out with the different duties in order to run the day smoothly. There were a variety of things to do like baking goods in the Carmel Kitchen, rolling around deliveries to guests, and helping out in the gift shop! Not only did the entertaining activities brighten up the mood, but it was also the help of the sweet nuns that assisted the club as well. It was quite a memorable experience helping out with the activities that the families who came enjoyed. “We love our sisters!” says the club.

Fally Rally, one of the biggest annual events in Key Club, happened on the 13th of November. Many Key Clubbers gathered at Six Flags to compete for the spirit stick. Even though our division showed a tremendous amount of spirit, it wasn’t enough for us to win, but we will try to win the spirit stick back! At the D10S x D10N November DCM, there were many activities, such as Red Light, Green Light (Squid Game Themed), Guess the Word, and Pie Eating Contest. In addition, awards were given out by the Lt. Governor. Our club received club of the month for showing outstanding service, devotion, love, and spirit for Key Club. This would not have been possible without the help of all the club members. For the month of November, the officer of the month award was given to Kelly Wu, who’s the club historian, for going above and beyond. Our club president and advisor recognized Kelly’s consistent service and dedication to her home, school, and community.

Hey Blue Turtles! I hope you all had a great first semester of school back in person and that your finals went well! Whatever scores you got and what your grades are, you making it through is something you should definitely be proud of. I’m proud of you! It’s so crazy that we only have a few months of this term left. Whether it has been Fall Rally, our region events, training events, or our monthly DCM’s, I hope you’ve been enjoying it and continue to experience more until the end. With 2021 being wrapped up, I wish you all the best, nothing but the best in the new year. Warm wishes to you all, happy holidays!
