The month of February was a new starter for Alhambra Key Club. Prospect season has started, which means there are some incoming Blue Turtles! On February 8th, Alhambra Key officially had their first open meeting to teach those interested all about Key Club. The meeting started off with President Madison David, Top 5 Officers, and Cabinet Members introducing themselves and their favorite key memory. The team then immediately dived into presenting what Key Club is all about; President David showcased the different activities and services by displaying photographs of services and Fally Rally. President David also went over the importance of Alhambra Key and how other Key Clubs from different schools make up or Division and how other Divisions make up a region. The team also gave a brief explanation on our CNH District. After a brief presentation on Key Club, to close out the meeting, all the members showed their spirit by demonstrating how to do the renowned Key Club chant to the new incomers. With the loud cheering spreading in the room, everyone was surely intrigued and fascinated with Alhambra Key as they followed along with the chant soon after. The school club is looking forward to saying their hello’s to future Blue Turtles, which will be announced in the following weeks!

Gabrielino held its now annual ClubRoke (club karaoke) in the month of January and Key Club announced that they are participating once again! ClubRoke is a competition for clubs on campus to lip sync to any song they prefer with the help of their members. Opinions were asked during the Key’s January monthly meeting and the final decision was made. As all the Swifties cheered, the decided song was sought be “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift! The following week, many key club members got off their seats and recorded a short lip sync of themselves, using any references to the song lyrics possible. The clips were later compiled into a grand music video that would be entered into the competition and battled against other clubs on campus. For the final music video, check out @gabrielinokeyclub on Instagram!

In the month of February, San Gabriel’s Key Club conducted cabinet elections for the 2022-2023 term. In the beginning of the month, our current cabinet scheduled individual interviews for each candidate in order to know each one better. Our club held an electoral meeting on February 24th where each candidate presented their own speech to persuade members to vote for them. Around 130 members attended the electoral meeting and listened intently to all 15 candidates. Our Kiwanis advisors Ms. Foltyn and Mr. Claro also attended our meeting. The election results were released on our club instagram @sangabrielkey, shortly after on February 28th. Now all officer-elects are slowly transitioning into their new roles with the guidance of their officer predecessors.

In the month of February, we fulfilled our community service with “Bean Bean Bean”, which is a website where members can donate beans and fight hunger by answering trivia questions. Members can earn half an hour every 300 beans they donate, and the max each person can earn is 8 hours. A total of 38 hours were earned from this service. Next, we are having elections for Key Club positions next year on Thursday, March 17, 2022. We are also planning a Boba fundraiser for our club in front of our school. We have the flyer ready, but the date has not been decided on yet. Our tech editor, Kevin Yang, also finished our shirt design, so now we just need to find a vender. Finally, our club is planning to attend the LA Marathon 2022 on Sunday, March 20, 2022. Our volunteer shift is J02 Water Station Mile 2, and we will be passing out waters to the runners.

hi blue turtles <3 thank you all for making key club my favorite place in the world. when i joined the division leadership team my first year in key club, i was overwhelmed, i found myself immersed into a club i knew little about, surrounded by faces i’d never seen in my life. i was given a position i felt i didn’t have the experience for, i felt like i didn’t deserve the opportunity i was given and for the first couple of weeks i seriously considered resigning. i am so eternally grateful that i didn’t. through the DCMs and various events like conclave and fall rally, key club has provided me with a safe space away from the harsh intricacies of life. the people i’ve met through this club quickly became some of my favorite in the world and the things i’ve been able to experience and accomplish i will always relish. key club engulfs my mind, my body and soul, and the four pillars that key club is founded on, leadership, inclusiveness, caring and character-building will always be the four pillars of my heart. my year being your division news editor is coming to an end but i hope to continue my key club journey through the 2022-2023 term, if you’ll have me. thank you for being the best decision of my life– i love you forever. signing out, C✩LVIN TRUONG your 2021-2022 Division News Editor ★★
