Beautification Day Kerry Mulia

After a day of inhaling paint fumes and getting dirty from the dirt, the experience was worth seeing all the members work and bond together with the Gardening Club to help clean our school’s interior. Considering that the event was on a Sunday morning, I was surprised to see many members volunteer and was pleased to see more members being active. Beautification day was a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community and a significant event because of the condition our school was not at its’ best. Witnessing the Key Club members laugh and enjoy themselves while cleaning the school was an uplifting moment for me and I hope to see more members at service events to experience the same feeling as me!

This was my first beautification and, honestly, the experience was really fun; it made me feel better about helping my community. I felt happy and had fun while putting my hard work and effort into this event. I really liked how everyone was willing to help each other out; no one complained or said anything negative. What was most memorable was the people. Everyone collaborated together and, no matter how tiring it got, we still had a lot of fun. We had a feeling of accomplishment, actually doing something for ourselves, the school and, most importantly, for Key Club!

Well besides crouching down and getting messy from the bushes and dirt, I liked how we collaborated with Gardening Club. It was really nice seeing students come and spend their time on an early Sunday morning. I really loved the environment and vibe that everyone was giving off that day and hopefully we'll beautify the school again.

Marathon Kids Final Celebration Sally Duong

Rise and shine! - Well, at least for Mark Keppel Key Clubbers. Dedicated volunteers woke up bright and early before the sun rose to travel to Cal State LA University to help out at the annual Marathon Kids Final Celebration on Saturday, March 14th. Marathon Kids is an organization actively involved with families, schools and communities across the country. They are devoted to fighting child obesity and other health related problems by providing education and promoting healthy eating and exercise. Every year, they host a final celebration to commemorate the children for running/walking a cumulative 26.2 miles. Volunteers helped set up by tying balloons, inflating the finish/starting line, and arranging the rewards and water bottles. Other jobs included controlling the music to pump up the kids, ushering, and greeting people as they walked in. Queenie Choi noted, “My favorite part was being an usher, along with my two best friends, directing the marathoners and parents to different sections”. Smiles spread across the stadium from volunteers to children to the staff. For many volunteers, Marathon Kids Final Celebration holds a special place in their heart such as sophomore, Amanda Lam. She said, “Of all the events that Key Club offers, this is one of my favorites. You get to help set up and cheer the kids that run 26.2 miles throughout the school year. As of now, I’ve been to this service 3 times and I hope that Key Club will volunteer for this event more times in the future”.

March Pie DCM William Tea

Hello Key clubbers! What better way to start off our officers' new terms than to restlessly pie them? This months dcm featured a tasty treat for both new and IP officers, as they were pleasantly attacked with delicious pies. That's right, at this dcm you got to shower your officers with both affection, and pastries! That's not all, the money raised from this event went towards the Pediatric Trauma Program, so not only did we get to give our officers a sweet surprise, but we got to support a great cause as well. We ended our monthly meeting with a special scavenger hunt where our members had to put their heads together to try and figure out where all the various items were. Overall our members had a fantastic time and we got to give a special welcoming to our new officers.
