Hello D10S Blue Turtles! It feels as if time has flown by...I mean not only are we three months into the year already, but we’re almost done with the term. Although this term is almost over, the time that’s rapidly passing by is just a countdown until we get to see each other in person!

LAM CHUNG D10S DIVISION NEWS EDITOR

Hey all! I can’t believe we’re almost halfway through the second semester. Time flies, doesn’t it? I’ve only just joined Key Club this year, so I haven’t met many of you all yet. I am definitely looking forward to meeting more of you all and joining in more club events as the days pass and things finally settle down. Since we’re now in the thick of the semester, things are getting even busier once again. So, I hope you are all doing well, without carrying too much stress or too many troubles. Good luck with your lives, health, and studies, everyone! I wish you all the best!

Hey Blue Turtles! Can you believe there’s only a few more weeks left to this term? I can’t . Serving you all has truly been an amazing experience, and I can’t thank you all enough! We still have a few more events left, so let’s finish off this term strong! We’re a division with over 940 members and we’ve served more than 14,000 service together! I hope to see you all at our next DCM and future events! As always, make sure to take care of yourself and feel free to reach out if you ever need anything! Swimming in Service,

JERICA FANG, D10S LIEUTENANT GOV.

MARK KEPPEL EVENTS In the month of January, Mark Keppel Key Club members put in efforts to save our oceans. In recent years, plastic pollution in the ocean has led to the ingestion, suffocation, and entanglement of hundreds of marine species. Keeping this in mind, we set our attention to volunteering through OceanHero. OceanHero is a search engine that allows volunteers to recover plastic pollution with every internet search. As every five searches amount to one ocean-bound plastic bottle, Mark Keppel Key Club members were able to achieve over 27,500 internet searches. At the end of January, members were able to recover around 5,500 plastic bottles from the ocean and became the catalyst towards cleaner waters for our aquatic animals.

GABRIELINO EVENTS New Year, new board! Gabrielino Key Club began the New Year by opening up executive officer applications to all members on the 1st of January as the current term comes to a close. Members could apply for a variety of executive positions including: President, Co-Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and Tech Editor. After potential candidates completed and sent in their initial application, the applicants prepared for a personal interview with senior board members. The interview process is currently still ongoing until February 5th. By late March, Gabrielino will welcome its new executive board for the upcoming term. We can’t wait to meet the new blue turtles! With the new year comes new opportunities to serve our community! Gabrielino key clubbers had the chance to do just that with our Cards for Elderly service. Members got to make card designs that would be printed and donated to the local San Gabriel Convalescent Center. We were also able to do work internationally with the World Pediatric Project Letter Service. Through the World Pediatric Project website, we wrote digital messages to children who are receiving treatment. Members could write up to three letters with the hours dependent on the total time spent making them. We hope to be a ray of sunshine for those kids going through rough times!

ALHAMBRA EVENTS January and February were both very productive and eventful months for Alhambra Key Club. After winter break, our new officers were announced and we were all able to come together and have a virtual social through zoom! Our new amazing social chairs planned fun activities such as among us, scribble.io, and kahoot which helped everyone to be more comfortable as the environment was positive and welcoming. Prospect season also began! Students who aren't already in a service club had the opportunity to attend open meetings to thoroughly be informed of what each club had to offer. Alhambra had 2 open meetings and the turnout was great, many being very excited and willing to learn about what Alhambra Key Club has to offer. Finally, we had our prospect season social where we encouraged those who were interested in joining key to attend and engage in fun activities with all other prospects as well as current members. We had our annual scavenger hunt where officers came up with a nickname for themselves and prospects had to guess who’s nickname matched with who. This game definitely helped everyone to be more engaged and get to know their officers better.

21-22 LTG ELECT As the new LTG elect of Division 10 South Key Club, I am feeling very thrilled! I am still surprised to be where I am today because just about a year ago, I would have never thought I would be stepping out of my comfort zone this far. However, as I gain more experiences both in leadership and serving my school, community, and beyond, I now feel prepared to lead our division. I am so incredibly excited to continue my spirit and dedication with our members so that we all can unite with each other as we share our passion for Key Clubserving others and building leadership! My favorite experience in Key Club is Fall Rally my freshman year. As a freshman, new to Key Club, I was very shy and afraid, but from the very start, Key Club has shown me that it has so much to offer for everyone. At Fall Rally, I was able to meet and bond with so many people, as we all radiated so much spirit and enthusiasm. Although our division did not win the Spirit Stick, we did make it to the final round! From waking up at the crack of dawn to be at call time to after sunset, we spent the whole day together and there is not one moment I would ever trade for anything else. The process of completing all the requirements to attend was also a very rewarding experience. From attending DCM’s to fundraisers, to spirit sessions, and completing service hours, it has given me so many learning experiences and memories that I will cherish for a lifetime. As our division has done an outstanding job in both service and maintaining high spirit, I would like to continue the many things that we already have implemented such as interclub events and pen

pals. I believe this is a great way to give our members the opportunity to socialize with others in a much closer way than just conversations at surface level or quick icebreaker activities. I would like for our members to feel welcomed and that Key Club is an organization they comfortably belong in. In addition to these plans, one thing I have in mind that I would like to implement in my next term is to create group chats for each officer position from all schools in our division. As this year we already have a presidents & vice presidents’ group chat, I would like to expand this to other officers as well, such as a secretary group chat, treasurer group chat, service chair group chat, historian group chat and so on for any position that I see will be necessary. I think it is very effective to share ideas among each other, as well as have the opportunity to interact with a group of people. Since we are a large division with many members, many may feel intimidated to reach out so I think this will make officers more comfortable to talk with those they share similar duties with! This way, each home club will be able to plan out many ideas, shared by fellow Key Clubbers! To all younger Key Club members who might aspire to run for LTG one day, I believe in you and please believe in yourself as well! It is a rewarding experience to take the initiative to better serve the community and beyond. From just knowing that you want to run for LTG, I am so proud of you for that. The advice I would like to give you is to please keep in mind not only what you want and how you want it, but also WHY you want it! This will help you stay motivated right from the start, despite any challenges you may stumble upon. I’m sending you waves of support as you learn and grow into an amazing leader, no matter if that is as LTG or as an individual in general!
