I approached the Key Club booth during club rush my freshman year and eagerly signed up! It wasn’t until my first club meeting and DCM that I realized how much Key Club truly did. I joined and stayed in Key Club because I wanted to make a difference in my community and the world. Key Club has shown me that serving my community can be an enjoyable experience and that I don’t have to do everything alone. My time in Key Club has allowed me to develop professional leadership skills that will help me throughout life. To be honest, I first decided to run for a leadership position because I wanted to have more of a say in the decisions within my home club. Members usually wouldn’t participate in events and since I personally loved attending Key Club related activities and knew just how fun they were, I wanted to make a difference. I then ran for and became both the historian of my home club and a division spirit coordinator! After spending a year as a student leader, my passion for volunteering and Key Club has increased tremendously. I feel that our events and services, however big or small, all create a nurturing environment for students to develop their leadership skills. I chose to run for Schurr’s Key Club President because I wanted to help foster that environment and encourage others to become better leaders in the world.

So far, I’m feeling pretty good about my term. I’m mostly looking forward to hosting in-person events when the circumstances allow for them. I have an amazing officer board filled with motivated student leaders that never hesitate to . remind me that they’re always there for me. Since the . pandemic greatly impacted our member participation, I . hope to see our attendance numbers rise permanently. From service hours to scholarships, a fun high school experience to lifelong friendships, Key Club has something for everyone!

My main Spotify playlist is quite genre-less but it mainly consists of pop, acoustic pop, kpop, and r&b songs. Currently, my favorite song is Never Loved This Way Before by CHEEZE because it’s from one of my favorite Webtoons and the lyrics basically tell the love story between the main characters.

On June 20th, Alhambra's Semester 1 Cabinet had their very first board meeting. Alhambra had their annual Summer Installs in May that revealed the awesome members that make up the current cabinet. The club enjoyed speeches from newly elected officers, as well as said their farewells to the class of 2021! In preparation for this conference, Alhambra's Top 5 officers worked especially hard to develop a productive agenda in order to guide the direction of discussion. Since it is the summer, many topics remain uncertain in regards to the upcoming school year. However, all officers stepped out of their comfort zones and up to the plate as they contributed countless suggestions and ideas throughout the hour. While things may have been a bit awkward at first, the excited group grew closer through a few icebreakers and got to know each other on a more personal level. They gave fun facts about one another, ranging from favorite foods to common nap times! Afterwards, the group got straight to business, starting off with fundraising goals for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. They traded popular fundraising locations, dates/times, and planned out future expenses. The board also touched upon service hour goals, and the Vice Presidents gave out service ideas (in-person and virtual)! Currently, Alhambra has been working on several virtual services, including Ecosia, “Save the Trees” app, Charity Miles, and many more exciting activities. Aside from club goals, many officers spoke up about working harder on closing the gap between the cabinet and the members. They aim to continue actively engaging and interacting with the club in its entirety during meetings and events. The jam-packed meeting closed off with upcoming events and deadlines, a successful pause on the board's ongoing efforts to better the club!

Schools out...summers here! And what better way to maintain the positive Key Club community during the summer then having a service where members can bond and color for a change? Gabrielino Key Club partnered with Color a Smile to provide a service for members to color cheerful drawings that are sent out to Senior Citizens, Our Troops Overseas, and anyone who’s in need of a smile. The artwork would then be mailed out and the receivers could enjoy a colorful drawing done by a random stranger around the world! Members could choose the drawings they’d like to color while enjoying a peaceful afternoon with the rest of the Key Club officers in a zoom meeting. After the meeting, members were able to submit their masterpieces into a google form, which would count towards their community service. Music was played and the bonding was successfully done, all while providing for our community and having fun.

During the month of June, Mark Keppel Key Club members helped clean up the streets by picking up water bottles and aluminum cans to recycle at their local recycling centers. In the midst of a pandemic, we figured that we should help clean up our communities. Recycling is important because it helps prevent pollution, reduces the need to harvest new materials, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and helps reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Americans would typically throw out about 28 million bottles and jars every year. Members were able to help and make a positive impact within our local communities by recycling their plastic bottles as well as the ones cluttered in our streets. For every 10 bottles collected, each member was able to earn 1 hour of service with a maximum of 10 hours. This service opportunity served as a goal to help clean up the streets in our local communities.

On June 11, there was a Longo Toyota Clean up for service opportunities. Longo Toyota was kind enough to provide COVID-19 vaccines to the community for easy access. They had nurses to give the vaccines, water, and customized cookies to those who got vaccinated. Longo Toyota employees as well as people in the community arrived at the vaccination clinic for their shot. Rosemead Key Club members had the opportunity to volunteer at the Longo Toyota located in El Monte. The volunteers wiped down chairs as other people came and left from the vaccination distribution. After people got their shot, the volunteers distributed a sugar cookie and a cold water bottle to each and every person. Overall,

For the month of July, Wilson held a banquet where we had a movie night and an award ceremony to celebrate key club members for their hard work and dedication throughout the term. During the summer, our cabinet members also got to meet via zoom to discuss fundraiser ideas, goals, and improvements for the following school year. The first service opportunity Wilson hosted this month was .blue Search Engine. This search engine allows members to perform searches while also generating revenue for ocean restoration organizations. Those who participated were able to earn a maximum of 5 hours. This is a great opportunity to help the marine ecosystem while also staying in the comfort of your home! The second service opportunity for this month was BeanBeanBean. BeanBeanBean is an online trivia game, similar to Freerice, where you get to answer educational questions. Every question you answer correctly will be donated towards charity to help fight world hunger. For this service opportunity, the maximum number of hours one can receive is 5

Hey Blue Turtles! I hope you all have been enjoying your summers so far! This summer, I’ve been sleeping a lot and trying to get into playing guitar. I am also always doing something for our club because the Key Club grind never stops! Can you believe we are already 1/4 into the term? Time really does go by so fast. School is about to start very soon so I just want to remind you to make the most out of your time and that I am wishing you good luck! I’m so honored to be serving such an amazing club and division, as your dedication and spirit for service continues to shine so bright. Thank you so much for the great few months so far.
