DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH KEY CLUB My experience with key club has honestly been amazing. many of my close friends i have, i was able to meet through key club. it helped me open so many doors and meet many people! WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME YOUR CLUB’S PRESIDENT? during my sophomore year, i was able to learn a lot more about key club through division and home club board. after noticing the weaknesses in my club, i wanted to help on a higher level, which ultimately made me want to run for president. HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT YOUR TERM, WHAT DO YOU HOPE COMES OUT OF IT? i am so excited to see how the rest of the term goes! since this is my second year as president, i am so happy to see all the in-person activities we are having that we were unable to do last year. i hope to accomplish more than i did last term and hopefully make it a fun and memorable one WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF MUSIC, ANY SONGS YOU LIKE RIGHT NOW? my favorite type of music is r&b and pop, particularly any doja cat, olivia rodrigo, 88rising artist or keshi song! some of my favorite songs right now are beside you, need to know and traitor!

On Thursday, September 4, Alhambra High School hosted their annual ICC Club Fair, where Alhambra Key Club had an incredibly successful turn-out advertising to prospective members. Decorated with colorful posters, attractive Key Club apparel, and distinguished certificates, the booth sat alongside that of the various other service clubs at Alhambra High School. At the end of the event, President Madison and Vice Presidents Athena and Melanie celebrated with a total of about 100 students who were interested and plan on joining in the following semester! Throughout the month of September, President Madison and Vice Presidents Athena and Melanie continued to host club meetings at lunch in Mr. Kim’s classroom every Tuesday. The Presidents proceeded to provide positive welcomes or returns to the club members with the distribution of elegant sashes. They then moved forward with reminders and encouragement to participate in the ongoing online services and their respective deadlines to receive hours. On September 8, Vice President Athena announced the second in-person service of the year for the Rose Bowl Half Marathon. Details that outlined the time and place of the service were provided alongside the sign-up link. On Sunday, September 26, dedicated members of Alhambra Key Club volunteered at the G4 Water Station of the annual Rose Bowl 5k Marathon. Though their work started at 5:30 am, in pitch darkness, members were overly excited to experience their first post-pandemic in-person service! The preparation for the race began with setting up tables, lifting box after box of supplies, and filling up almost 1000 paper cups with water or electrolytes. As the sun began to rise, marathon runners took off. Key Club volunteers cheered on runners along the sidelines of the course besides their stationed tables, handing out cups of water or electrolytes. After about 4 hours, volunteers quickly cleaned up their stations and left with a great first service experience!

The moment Gabrielino has been waiting for during the months of quarantine finally came… club rush! After waiting dreadful days, Key Club was finally able to have a booth at club rush again. President Jaron Lin knew the club’s table had to be as intriguing as possible in order to gain more sign ups, so he deliberated with his officer team. Together, the officer board was able to pull off an amazing table that caught the attention of many. The day of club rush arrived and on the table there were many intriguing things like a variety of snacks being passed out, leftover pins, examples of merch, pamphlets and more! While some of the officers were helping students scan the QR codes with the interest forms and giving more information, other officers went around to take photos and also chant for more students to come sign up. One even held a cutout with a QR code that made it more convenient for those interested to scan! Despite the heat of the day, it was no match for the officer team. They worked hard to interest more students to join, and in the end it all was worth it. There ended up being over 200 signups that day! Thrill immediately came to the officer team as they knew they were bound for another successful year of key club at Gabrielino.

On September 3, Rosemead High school held their annual club rush during lunch. Club Rush is a chance for new students to be introduced to all the clubs Rosemead High School has to offer through setting up booths for each club. We created new posters and designed backpack tags leading up to that day. Rosemead Key Club’s booth received an extremely successful turnout as we received over 100 responses in our interest form that we provided through a QR code. On Club Rush day, all the officers agreed to dress up in Key Club attire to emphasize Key Club spirit to help gain members. Additionally, we promoted our booth on Rosemead Key Club’s Instagram story. In the story, it expressed that the first 20 people to stop by our booth will receive a free sticker, pin, and backpack tag. The promotion on Instagram had an immense impact on our successful turnout.

For the month of September, Schurr’s Key Club has held our first in-person general meeting where our president, Chloe Liu, addressed the following events and requirements for Fall Rally. She also took the time to address our new members and re-introduce the officers at each meeting. Following, we also had poster painting in preparation for our school’s homecoming event on October 8th. We were allowed to paint after school, for the last 2 weeks, Monday - Saturday. The poster size requirements were a 8x8, 3x3, and a 3x1. Besides poster painting, Schurr’s Key Club was required to come up with a game for our homecoming booth. We put it up to a vote and decided that we would have a group of volunteers get a pie thrown at them by a paying customer. The group of volunteers can be made up of our officers or our teachers.
