LTG’S MESSAGE Hello Turtles! It is with IMMENSE TURTLE PRIDE in which I can say, I LOVE YOU DIVISION 10 SOUTH. With over $5,000 raised for PTP and an opportunity in the second round at Fall Rally, it has been such a dream come true. Never throughout my high school career had I imagined that I would be able to serve and witness the immense growth of you all in such little time. Although this is my last Fall Rally, this is still not the end! There are still four months left in the term, so let’s make the most out of it and reach our goals for PTP, membership, and service hours! Furthermore, I am PREGNANT! Candidate Training Conference had just occurred and I am so excited to see the dedication and passion burning in their eyes! I am so proud of how far we have come this term and I can’t wait to see what else you will accomplish. Please message me if you have any other questions, thoughts, and/or concerns!

MEET ZHEN HUANG What do you love about being Division Secretary? I love seeing the hours stack up for each school month by month by month! It makes me proud that some are able to accomplish so much, despite their size.

Why did you join Key Club? At first, I thought Key was only for service hours so that was the main I joined. Once I become more committed, Key was so much more than that. I grew to love serving our community and the spirit of Division 10 South.

FUN FACT I love to sing!

MEET SAMANTHA WU What do you love about being Events Coordinator? I love that I get to see new and familiar faces volunteering at every event. I enjoy seeing the excitement from the other key clubbers as they work, as well as everyone bonding together as a whole.

Why did you join Key Club? I joined Key Club because I heard it was not only a great way to bond and make new friends but also it provides numerous opportunities to volunteer within our area.

FUN FACT December is my favorite month because there’s winter break, my birthday, my friends’ birthdays, Christmas, and so much more!

TO MY

LAST Fall Rally

a short goodbye from several Key Club seniors MICHELLE WANG IP LTG | GABRIELINO For the past four years, I have attended Fall Rally, and each one did not disappoint. Fall Rally has given me tender memories and friendships that I will remember for a lifetime, from going to spirit sessions with friends to winning the spirit stick. Thank you for everything, Key Club. You truly treated me well. Michelle Wang (right) with a member from D16N Unicorns

JEWELIA FLETCHER MEMBER | MARK KEPPEL My overall experience at fall rally was bittersweet. Having been my third fall rally, I’ve been through the highs and lows and I have to say that it was a great closing year. I cheered my heart out and got to ride awesome roller coasters with my friends, which made this last year so fulfilling for me. Jewelia Fletcher (left) with Yvonne Ma (right) 15

BRYAN WEN MEMBER | MARK KEPPEL Fall Rally is an absolutely amazing experience that I’ll never forget. I’ve been to two Fall Rally’s and I have to say there’s nothing that beats that. The energy there is unlike any other. To all those that haven’t been to Fall Rally or are considering going, definitely go. It’s a memory you’ll never forget. Bryan Wen (left) with a member from D35W Seals

HEATHER WONG MEMBER | MARK KEPPEL This is my second time attending fall rally! Compared to last time, I socialized a lot more with people from other divisions and went in more rides. Even though I didn’t spirit battle anyone, I did take a couple of pictures which was nice! Heather Wong (left) with Jessica Tieu (right)

SHANNON HO MEMBER | GABRIELINO Even though we didn’t win this year, it was a blast to see the amazing people that were there. I will forever cherish the memories made at all four Fall Rallies I’ve attended. I’m truly glad that I am a part of this club. 16

On Sunday, October 27th, from 4-9 PM, a Key Club Halloween service event, “Haunted House”, was held at the Rosemead Recreation Center. We had around 20 volunteers from Rosemead Key Club come help out at this event and they were all required to wear black clothing. This “Haunted House” event was a haunted maze where the volunteers would dress up using masks and costumes provided and scare the people walking through the maze. Inside the maze, there were about 6 to 8 themed sections and 3 volunteers would be in the section that matches the theme of their mask and costume. Our task throughout the whole maze was to scare as many people as we can and ensure that the people have a scary but fun time in the maze. Towards the end of the event, we cleaned up and organized all the masks and costumes into boxes. Emily Chen, a senior Key Club member, quoted, “I’m not a haunted house person because I get scared easily, but it was fun working alongside my friends to scare people.” by Celine Diep, Rosemead Tech Editor 17

On the 19th and 20th of October 2019, Key Clubbers from MKHS, along with other clubs from various schools, helped out at the 25th annual Pumpkin Festival. The Pumpkin Festival was held at Brookside Park in Pasadena, starting from 9 AM going all the way to 5 PM. All the proceeds went to the Kidspace Children’s Museum, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children find their interests. Coincidentally, it was also Kidspace Children’s Museum’s 40th anniversary. Volunteers were tasked with running booths, organizing rides, and other jobs to help the event run smoothly. The event coordinators briefed volunteers before their shifts began and circled the area during the event, helping people as needed. Hundred of families came on each day, supporting the non-profit and enjoying their time there. by Anson Yamvinij, Mark Keppel Historian

On October 26th, Gabrielino Key Club helped out at the local elementary school to help set up and run their annual Halloween Event. Members arrived as early as 8AM and worked to set up tables, candy, and game booths around the campus. During the event, they ran the games and sold food. It was a great way to give back to the community while also getting into the Halloween spirit. Trunk or treats, kids in costumes, spooky decorations, Halloween games, and dedicated Key Clubbers filled the school that day. by Nicole Tanaka, Gabrielino Historian

(3) Key Club Treasurer Calvin displays the beanbag toss minigame that Key Club President Tiffany crafted.

On Saturday, October 19th, the Key Clubs of Division 10 South participated in a region market-themed October DCM, meant to encourage bonding and communication between the different schools that made up the division: Alhambra, Gabrielino, Mark Keppel, Montebello, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Gabriel Mission, Schurr, and Woodrow Wilson. Attendees were required to donate $5 to support PTP and were encouraged to bring extra money that would cover for the various foods and merchandise that the schools and the division sold. San Gabriel High School sold chocolate chip cookies and two flavors of Capri Sun for their fundraiser, priced at an affordable $0.50 each. San Gabriel High School Key Club President Tiffany Tang even made two minigames crafted from poster boards with a painted character motif. Players then threw the provided bean bags into the character’s open “mouths.” San Gabriel High School Key Club members supported the division and the schools by purchasing various items from their stands. Ivan Yu, an attendee, commented that “it was pretty fun,” citing that it was “all around a fun experience.” In addition, he mentioned that “the speed dating was also a really nice and fun change of pace.” by Selena Yu, San Gabriel Tech Editor 20
