DNE’s Message HELLO BLUE TURTLES! Welcome to my very FIRST newsletter of the term! My name is Allison Sou and I proudly serve as your 2019-2020 Division News Editor! Before we dive into the news, I would like to share a little about myself. I’m a soon-to-be senior at Gabrielino High School and I am certainly not ready to leave for college. My favorite Pokémon is actually Oshawott, not Squirtle (sorry!) but they’re both super cute. Lastly, and probably the most basic, I love boba! My go-to order is passion fruit green tea with less ice and no toppings. We already chose a starter so let’s head on our journey together and have a great term! Bubble Beaming with Love,

Allison Sou Division News Editor

Club

On April 27th, at the Los Angeles Historic State Park, volunteers gathered around to celebrate spring with children. The event was hosted by the Miss LA Chinatown Court. They held a raffle and encouraged donations since all of the earnings would go to FCC-SoCal, Families with Children from China-Southern California. The Key Clubbers were allowed to choose all the booths they wanted to volunteer at when they signed up for the event. Volunteers were given the choice of bag making, painting eggs, hosting games, kite flying, etc. All of the activities were fun and interactive, giving volunteers the opportunity to let their inner child out and play with the children. The Key Clubbers were each assigned to a booth of their choosing, and they would manage it for the rest of the day. All in all, it was a fun event for Key Clubbers to have fun with children and raise money for FCC-SoCal. -Anson Yamvinij, MKHS Historian

Service!

On May 9th, Gabrielino Key Club members spent their lunchtime preparing decorations for their upcoming banquet. In celebration of the “Tangled theme (after the Disney movie!), they worked together to create purple lanterns to allude to the magical symbolic lanterns in the movie. Another group worked on crafting together tissue paper flowers, which will be used for the photobooth backdrop. The color scheme of the banquet is pastel colors such as purple, yellow, and blue. The members used construction paper, tissue paper, gluesticks, their creativity and dedication to this project to create these decorations. The club is looking forward to the banquet, which will take place on Monday, May 20th at the Gabrielino High School small gym. The decorations will make it look festive and will be a great start to a new Key Club Term! -Nicole Tanaka, GHS Historian

Lost in Japan

In May, Division 10 South hosted a joint banquet/DCM with Division 10 North. The theme was “Lost in Japan” with pink and white paper flowers and lanterns as decorations. Both of the divisions’ leadership teams were announced and members were able to meet with them. There was a wide variety of food served such as pasta, chips, and donuts. Overall, members and officers had fun socializing, eating food, and taking pictures.
