Firefly Run was such an exciting event! Even though it began slow, the volunteer work really picked up over time, and once it started we were setting up in the stadium itself with tents, bananas, and medals. It the event was so large we had to do it in a football stadium, so it felt really official. I think my favourite part was after all the setting up where I got to see all the runner come back from their run in their light up gear, the entire stadium was lit up at that point by music and people dancing. Even though the volunteer work was fun, nothing beats seeing the pay off and having fun with those who you've helped!

Volunteering at the Salvation Army event was such a memorable experience. I helped those who are unable to purchase school clothes, buy school clothes at the generous Old Navy department store. Bonding with the kids, getting to know them, and seeing their faces when we choose their clothes was an amazing feeling. Also, I'd like to thank Kamila Flores-Barragan for sharing this experience with me. If it wasn't for her, I would have never gotten to bond with the kids. I truly loved attending the Salvation Army event and I will volunteer for the next event!

On July 18th, I arrived at Brigadoon Park for Oak Grove Key Club's Shining, Shimmering Sunset. I wanted to help out so I got there at 3:30 to help out with the set up. We started off by wrapping the solar lights around the palm trees for the backdrop. Afterwards, I set out on hanging string for the lanterns. From there I helped the other volunteers to set up the tables and fill the g n i r e water buckets for the sparklers. To provide structure m m i h S g, n i n i p U for the floppy backdrop, I planned and assisted the Sh t e S t Sunse officers in taping pencil-like sticks perpendicular to the folds of the connected poster boards. Right before the event started, I helped the officers tie down the bottom of the movie screen. After the event concluded, I helped fold the tables and took down the lanterns. The event was a unique experience, and I enjoyed being able to volunteer my time to help get the event running smoothly!

How did Leland Key Club make a different at this event?? Well first, different should actually be difference (not different)!1!!1 Also if we had not had so many amazing volunteers signed up for every shift hundreds of people wouldn't have been able to get their signature hot dogs! It was a great opportunity for us to help out the Almaden Kiwaniis and bond with each other, and was an amazing event for the fairly new key club members to experience. The group of volunteers showed so much enthusiasm to the customers and each other, the teamwork skills in this event really shined through.

Working at Levi's Stadium for the One Direction concert gave me a greater insight for what it's like to serve hundreds of people, as well giving me working experience regarding what it is like behind a concession stand. Before, I didn't realize how difficult it could be on the workers: from cooking enough food for the concert attendees, running around grabbing food to fulfill the customer's orders, to accounting for inventory - a tedious and tiresome job. Although it was a long day of work as we accumulated over 8 hours of service, it was definitely rewarding seeing and hearing acts, such as Icona Pop and One Direction, live!

One of my favorite events I’ve done this summer is the Obon Festival. The Obon Festival is a festival celebrating Japanese culture. They have dances, food, and fun games there. While I was volunteering there I helped cook and pack the corn to sell. The people in charge of the corn booth were kind and gave us free food! I also worked at the tempura booth. At the tempura booth I helped put the food together and was in charge of the sauce station. I also worked at the soda booth, I was in charge of handling the money. Overall the Obon Festival was a great event and can’t wait to do it next year!

If you find it fun and joyful to serve dinner to the less fortunate with your fellow Key Clubbers, volunteering at the Commercial Street Inn event is the place to be. Despite all the hard work put into the food and dishwashing, I thought this was a great experience to understand what serving to the community really means.

Music in the Glen is something that I look forward to attending every week. Every Thursday evening in June and July I am greeted by welcoming smiles from Kiwanians and fellow Key Clubbers. From there on, I am surrounded by the company of the community, the blissful tones from the music, and the delightful scent from all the food. The money raised from Music in the Glen contributes towards student scholarships. These scholarships are given to students with bright futures each year by our Willow Glen Kiwanis advisors. It remarkable that volunteering around two hours of your day can make such a significant impact on someone's’ life. It is events like this that remind me why I love Key Club and why I love service. Music in the Glen is definitely one of those memorable events I have experienced. If you were not able to attend Music in the Glen this summer, I definitely would recommend making sure you go next year! Your support makes a difference.
