EDITOR'S MESSAGE What's Schemin' Villains? Summer days are quickly coming to an end. You know what that means... SCHOOL! And if you're feeling worried and stressed out about that AP summer homework you procrastinated on, don't worry, you're not alone! Get back on that school grind and finish up that homework! While you're working on your homework, don't forget about service! August is the time where clubs become active again and prepare for Club Rush! Welcome to the third issue of the term, Back to School Edition! In this SPECIAL edition, you will find tips on how to expand your club, importance of paying dues, updated Supervillain Points, and more! A quarter of our term has passed by and I'm so proud of how well our Division is doing! Together, we served 2879 hours, raised $647 for the Eliminate Project, and also raised $260 for the Pediatric Trauma Program. Did you know Maternal-Neonatal Tetanus was recently eliminated in Ethiopia? We have 17 countries left to go to finish the fight. Your contributions really do make a difference, thank you!

LTG'S WELCOME ARE YOU VILLAINS READY TO START SCHOOL AGAIN?!?! A quarter of our term has passed and it makes me so proud to say I serve the mighty Supervillains of Division 12 South especially when I see how far we have come. Along with the start of school, there is club rush. It’s tIme to get your Supervillain spirit ready to bring members towards your booth! A fun tip for club rush could be to have pins with your meeting date info or cute puns and secretly pin people! Also, wear your division or club spirit gear and make Key Club stand out! Make sure to make new members feel welcome and retain current members at the same time. Let’s make the most of the time we have left because the year will go by fast, so make the most out of the time you have. Shoot your shot! Go to that event, go up to that person you have been wanting to talk to, host that event you’ve always wanted to do. Thank you Villains for a great quarter and I can’t wait to see what else you have in store. I love you all and good luck with getting back into the school time groove!

Bubble Run During Bubble Run, I worked at the start line and while it took a lot longer than I thought, I had lots of fun! We were in charge of the bubble machines and I was able to interact with the racers! Time passed by quickly and I even made new friends among the volunteers there. The coordinators of the event were also very kind and were willing to answer any questions I had about my job. This was the second Bubble Run I had attended and I'm looking forward to being able to volunteer there again next year.

I have always loved working and bonding with our Kiwanis. Friday Night Music was a way for me to bond, meet and build a better relationship with my Kiwanis while serving my local community. At the event, I helped them make pulled pork, chicken sandwiches, and served hotdogs. We were also able to listen to live music at the same time. The Kiwanis are always sweet and hardworking and I love to work with them. Friday Night Music is a weekly event and I know that Friday Night Music will always be one of my favorite events that I will go to every week.

Lunada Festival The event held at the Children's Discovery Museum was called Lunada Festival, which is a festival that is a part of Hispanic culture. This was actually my first event with Key Club and it was pretty fun! I was part of the Arts and Crafts Crew where my friend and I were stationed at. We played with kids and help them make string art. Aside from our station, other volunteers were delegated tasks to serve food, secure certain areas, and also play with kids. This event was fun and eye opening to see how a different culture can be celebrated!

We were at different areas of the race including the starting line, aid, and registration. There were a lot of runners attending and everything was pretty chaotic. We used our values, especially leadership, to help organize the packets that needed to be handed out to participants, even when they had many complaints about fees that we did not have control over. We were also inclusive because we worked closely with other volunteers and employees. Overall, we helped the event move along more smoothly.

My experience at Tour de Cure was a positive one because I was able to benefit and facilitate an event that supports diabetes cures and research. Without this event, the money raised wouldn't have benefited further research and change. I was glad that I helped make a difference.

SILVER CREEK Calabazas Summer Kick Off We mainly worked on setup and clean up for the event. It was an open house event to showcase their summer pre-school and other programs. We were able to help with Arts and Crafts and help decorate their rooms. We also helped with their movie night and their bounce house to ensure that kids had a lot of fun while they were there.

I have been volunteering at Music in the Glen every Thursday and I really enjoy going every week.We serve food to people while listening to good, live music. It is a good opportunity to build a stronger relationship among other members while volunteering. Leland Key Club also volunteers at this event with us. It’s really fun getting to know Key Clubbers from other schools. This is a really fun event to work and I look forward to volunteering there each week with our Kiwanis and members.

----------------CLUB RUSH Show them what Key Club is all about! Be sure to deck out in Division/Club spirit gear and BE SPIRITED. Yelling out the "How do you feel?" chant or Division Cheers will attract their attention. Don't just say it's a service club that looks good on college apps-- majority of clubs on campus have the same purpose. Show them WHY Key Club is different and why they should join. Tell them your Key Club moment, your favorite part of Key Club, our Ohana atmosphere, and more. Feeling a bit extra? Go above & beyond and make pins! Going around pinning people is a great idea because you can put cute puns or important info on it! Also, make posters too! GO ALL OUT! Don't be afraid to show your passion towards Key Club.

----------------Most of the time, members don't understand why they have to pay dues, especially when they can volunteer for free. That's where YOU come in and properly educate them why!

So why should we pay dues? 1) Kiwanis International purchases liability insurance for your club. When you pay dues, you are guaranteed to be protected financially from the risks that arise in any club event or project. 2) You are able to apply for District Awards & Scholarships. 3) The money helps out your club, our District, and Key Club International. 4) You get to attend major events such as DISTRICT CONVENTION. 5) You get a Membership Card & Pin.

17

----------------MEETINGS Hold raffles once in awhile! Be enthusiastic If you are able to, usage of slideshows at meetings will attract the member's eyes & will make them pay more attention Icebreakers! Get to know everyone :)

CLUB BONDINGS

Club bondings are a great way to meet members! You can do: Movie Night, ice skating, bowling, socials, tournaments, and more.

INCREASED INVOLVEMENT

Take advantage of social media platforms! COMMUNICATION IS KEY! PUBLICIZE EVENTS!!! When you publicize events in an enthusiastic tone, it will make the members want to come!
