. . . E U SI S MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR What's Schemin' Villains?

It's the first day of September! It was nice seeing you all again at the August DCM! For the months of September and October, clubs should mainly focus on member recruitment and FUNDRAISING FOR PTP. It is really important for clubs to fundraise for PTP during this time of the year because it is used for bidding during FRN! If you need help on member recruitment, please refer back to the August Newsletter :) I hope you enjoy this month's issue! Thank you! - Pauline Nguyen

Hello Supervillains! Fall is coming up, so do you know what that means? Fall Rally North and Region Training Conference! RTC will be from September 30th-October 1st at Camp Jones Gulch. I hope you can all make it and meet Key Clubbers from all over Region 17 AND Region 9! Wow it’s going to be a magical time ;) Also, it’s time to get that green and grey paint, cough drops, and honey tea ready because FRN is coming up! On October 21st at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, get ready to scream with all your might for the Spirit Stick this year! Start asking your Kiwanis or faculty advisors early for chaperones because they don’t like to be asked last minute. Let’s keep working hard towards our goals and we definitely reach them if we just work together! - Kristy Le

YOUR CLUB WILL EARN EXTRA VILLAIN POINTS! As the school year starts, clubs begin to focus on MEMBER RECRUITMENT & prepare for Club Rush. I challenge all of the schools in 12 South to bring Freshmen Members to the September DCM! Each Freshman that attends, your club will earn one Villain Point. To earn these points, a representative from your club must state how many Freshmen are present and have them stand up during the club report. The Supervillain Score Board has just reset, so get a head start on earning those points! Club that wins will be announced in October.

After having so much fun

FRIDAY NIGHT MUSIC SERIES volunteering, it became a event every Friday! It’s a very friendly environment and that’s one reason why I keep

O T A R B O S

routine of me helping out at this

volunteering for them. It’s pretty

fun to be working and having free entertainment at the same time. I

got to really bond with the Kiwanis and we would always cheer when we sold out of something or the past few times had to close early because we sold out of everything. It’s a really fun volunteer event and a good way to return some love to the Kiwanis since they’ve done a lot for us.

GUADALUPE RIVER CLEANUP The Guadalupe River Cleanup is a very peaceful event. Although cleaning up garbage doesn't sound fun, being surrounded by the beauty of nature is nice. Also, help beautifying our community by cleaning up garbage that others have left behind is a great way to get involved with your community and nature.

KIWANIS FOURTH OF JULY At the Kiwanis 4th of July, Leland

Key Club made a difference at this event by help selling hot dogs. Volunteers made sure that the

lines didn’t get long by providing fast service to the customers. They also had a positive attitude and one volunteer in particular, Edward He, a 10th grader went around convincing people to buy the hot dogs. We used our core values of leadership and character building by delegating tasks and interactions with customers and others. We also showed caring by offering assistance and reminded each other to take a break and eat a hot dog.

SUNSET: SPIRITED AWAY During the month of July, our club mainly focused on our annual Sunset Movie Night at Brigadoon Park. Because of the amount of

K A O

planning and preparation involved, we only had one small volunteer event. We had a fun time making the decorations and running the event even though there were few complications. Sunset was a success and thank you to those who attended. - Atticus Vang

SUMMER BOARD MEETING

Over the summer, we had a board meeting to discuss what we were planning to do for the upcoming school year. At the meeting, we

prepared for Freshmen Orientation by making decorations and also

decided to open up more positions to our board. We plan to appoint spirit coordinator, social

coordinator, and a historian. These positions will be opened mainly for freshmen, but if not a lot of

freshmen apply, we will open it up to all classes. At the Orientation, we recruited many freshmen members and will be having our first meeting of the term on the 16th.

HANDING OUT DONATIONS At the event, we were put into groups of certain stations. Each station had its own task: food,

R E V L I S

water, clothes, and shoes distribution to low-income families. What I learned from this event was that we sometimes take things for granted even though the bed we sleep on may seem like a luxury to others. - Vincent Hung

The main purpose of the

YMEDACA YROTARAPERP YTISREVINU

WALK FOR LIFE event was to serve breakfast to participants of the Walk for Life, which is a 24-hour Cancer Walk. Volunteers

woke up at 6:00AM to meet

at Campbell for the event. We were

then grouped into teams to work at the stations. Throughout the event, Cancer Survivors gave out

speeches and while teams were

running laps for Cancer Research Funds. Overall, it was extremely

successful, everyone showed great teamwork and had a blast getting to know each other too!

MUSIC IN THE GLEN Music in the Glen was possibly one of the most fun service events I have volunteered at. It is a really

W O L L I W

fun community event that I have gone to in the past. This event takes place almost every Thursday during summer and it allowed us to bond more with our board and club members, as well as our Kiwanis! We helped set-up and clean-up the event and serve different foods to the people there. It was a fun way to get a lot of hours! - Chrissy Rubio

Hey Supervillains! I'm Katrina Chow and I’ll be serving as your RTC coordinator! Just so you can get familiar with me, I’ll tell a bit of my tale! On top of serving Silver Creek Key Club, I’m also SCHS Volleyball Club’s Secretary, but don’t be fooled! I’m actually really bad at sports, including volleyball. One thing I am good at is dancing! It makes me feel happy and joyful whenever I can express myself through dance. Although, if I had to make the choice of dancing or being with friends, I would 100% rather be with my amazing friends, making cringy jokes and eating good food! That is why as RTC approaches sooner and sooner, I can’t wait to share the Tale of Service with all my friends! A.K.A. YOU GUYS! Let’s write our own tales at RTC this year, filled with good memories, good company, and good service ( Not phone service xD ) I love you guys and I’ll see you soon at RTC!
