Hey Supervillains!

LTG of D43 and D12S , Vicky Le, being auctioned at Fall Rally North (FRN) 2014!

October has been a crazy month! Not only did we pass one of our division goals, we also brought home the spirit stick! I remember bursting into to tears when Governor Jacqueline made the announcement. I am continually reminded every day of how blessed I am to be able to serve this amazing division! Your spirit, sportsmanship, and dedication really shined through at FRN and I am so glad that others were able to see what I saw all along! Winning the spirit wouldn't have been possible without each and every one of you. L-O-V-E I LOVE MY D-I-V!

Vicky Le

Supervillains! I’ve never been more proud and thankful to be a part of D12S and to have this chance to serve all of you. There are a lot of things in life in which I’m not the strongest in, but being in Key Club really does push me to improve myself at home, at school, in Key Club...everything! Thank you so much for visiting November’s newsletter. I hope you enjoy it!

Even though I joined Key Club in my Freshman year, I was never involved with any big Key Club events until this year, my Junior year. Fall Rally North really opened my eyes and made me fall deeper in love with Key Club. It was mind blowing to see so many spirited Key Clubbers cheering for their division and trying their hardest to win the Spirit Stick. Despite the hot weather, all of us still cheered our hearts out and gave it our all for this wonderful event. I am so glad that I was able to share this amazing experience with many other Key Clubbers at FRN! #ILoveD12S Yumei Huang Andrew Hill Bulletin Editor Fall Rally North was an AMAZING experience. My last FRN was so bittersweet but I'm so glad that I got to spend it with the mighty spirit stick winning Supervillains. I'm really happy that my freshmen/first time FRN attendees had such a great time! Hoang Nguyen Ann Sobrato Member FRN was really fun! This is my first year being really into key club, and so far my year has started off with fun and spirit! Seeing all these other key clubbers made me want to cry tears of joy. 1 LTG + 4 Spirit Coordinators + 1 gr12S division = Success! On October 18th, 2014, I got to taste this success when we won the spirit stick at FRN in Six Flags. With green and gray paint all over their faces, students of many ages chanted, cried our lungs out, and "rocked the house" to "our villain beat." In the end, our hard work was worth it. Our school had claimed victory over many other divisions present there. When our GOV announced our names, all of us spirit coordinators shed tears of joy. It moved us to hear that the cheers we made had contributed to our awesome results! I thank Vicky and my division so much for granting me an opportunity to help lead everyone to success! May D12S continue to flourish in the future! G-DOUBLE-O-D J-O-B! GOOD JOB! GOOD JOB! <3 Dan Truong Silver Creek Spirit/Project Coordinator From cheering my heart out at the rally to bonding with my amazing division, I can definitely say that FRN is one of my favorite Key Club events to attend! Seeing the smiles of my club member's faces throughout FRN and being able to make new friends from other divisions made me feel the happiest. After working so hard for the spirit stick this year, it was definitely worth seeing everyone's happy faces hearing that our division won the spirit stick. After leaving FRN so early because of band, I kept wishing that I could come back just to spend more time with my Key Clubbers. I can't wait for DCON 2015! Gabby Baniqued Ann Sobrato Vice President

My dream college would be the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. I enjoy reading manga and watching anime in my free time. All the way up until the 4th grade, I used to think that the words “Cinnamon” and “Synonym” were the same thing, until I said “Can I have pancakes with extra synonym on it?” and my parents had to explain that “Cinnamon” and “Synonym”, were to completely different things. I was heartbroken.

28 Andrew Hill | King Dedede Serving at the 2014 Rock N Roll Marathon was a STUPENDOUS and EXTRAORDINARY experience! I got to work with other volunteers in making sure that the finishing competitors were hydrated and having a great time! Running around, competing with the other hydration stations was a thrill, ESPECIALLY since the AWESOME Rock music of the 60s to the present was BLASTING in the background! Eventually, we ran into an iced drink shortage, but as an entire hydration SECTION, we pulled through, and it was the endless smiles and “thank you”s that made every rush and all the hustling well WORTH it. I can’t wait for the next event!

This is the group of Key Clubbers from Andrew Hill Key Club that went to RTC, it was a magical experience for everyone!

RTC was an AMAZEBALLZ eggsperience! It was so great to see all the spirit in the divisions and made me so proud to be a key clubber! During RTC we did many informative workshops and practiced leadership skills, working on skits and cheers for the campfire. I met so many wonderful people, had lots of laughs and smiles, and MUCHOS NOM NOMS! A key club workshop and goal this year was the importance of members and the

recognition of them. After receiving Member of the Division for September, I realized how special and appreciated the award made me feel and I want to pass that feeling onto others in my club! RTC has inspired me to make my club even better and to strive to serve my fellow members! I am so glad I went to RTC 2014 this year and am incredibly grateful to be given the opportunity to attend it! FRN, PLEASE COME SOONER!

Ann Sobrato | Fire Benders The Almaden Art and Wine Festival was really fun and interesting. It is my first volunteer event I had ever gone to and I had a lot of fun. I met new people, helped people, played with kids and much more. When there is a volunteer event like this open, YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY GO!

My experience at L5K was amazing. I had so much fun helping set up and seeing old friends. The best part was meeting new people. We helped set up all the booths and helped out with making the lanterns. I liked the pretty decorations all around the stadium and hanging out with my friends.

There were many friends and families running and walking their adorable dogs! I helped refill the dog's water bowls and continuously fed them dog treats! The runners were very sweet and the dogs were all friendly and super cute! It was a fun experience and I would love to do it again!

FRN Prep was incredible. It was a blast decorating the capes and bandanas with the other club members. My favorite part of the prep would be learning the cheers and dance moves to them. The whole day was filled with laughter and making new memories. Overall, my first FRN prep was an amazing experience.

At the Christmas in the Park Workshop we prepared decorations to be worked on at another workshop. We painted and prepared foam balls. I liked being able to work and help the CITP people. I really enjoyed being able to witness the kind of volunteers our freshman are! This event is one I'd definitely do again.

31 My experience of volunteering at the Taste of Morgan Hill was exciting. I got to meet new people and reunite withhold friends. The kids were excited to get their tickets and play on the obstacle course and the giant slides. Overall, it was a fascinating experience being able to work at the Taste of Morgan Hill.

RTC was definitely a great experience. From skits, to cheers, to bonding with key clubbers, everything went beyond past my expectations. This event truly made me remember why I have such a passion for Key Club and serving and I don't know where I'd be without it. I'm so glad I got to reunite with my ohana and hopefully got to help inspire a new generation of Key Clubbers to gain a new found passion for serving!

In my own experience, Day in the park was a great opportunity to see how food allergies could affect some people. The way everyone had a part in the festival was very inspiring thing to see with everyone taking their time to see to this cause. Going to this event to work and volunteer was a great place to have fun while working, and to see how other can impact such a way that it really does make a difference. Going to the Day in the park event was a great time and fun to help, and to encourage the cause.

During my volunteer time at the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon, I worked at the merchandise shop with a few of my fellow Key Clubbers. I assisted the runners who wanted to get a badge of honor to prove that they had conquered the marathon. During my shift, I saw hundreds

of runners that seemed to have all different backgrounds. Some looked like they could finish the race with ease, others looked like parents that just wanted to have fun. Overall, it was a fun experience working at the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon!

33 Live Oak | Storm Troopers In addition to the Taste of Morgan Hill, the Luminate 5k was also attended by Live Oak.

Working in the Taste of Morgan Hill was an amazing experience because it is not only fun but offers an opportunity to be active in our community. It was a great way to interact with other people volunteering as well and to improve social skills. I would recommend students to volunteer in future events to become more active in our community and enhance social skills!

Elsa Jimenez Member My experience working at the Taste of Morgan Hill was really fun. To me it is weird how selling beverages and setting tables help the community, but I know in the long run it helps Morgan Hill by having the people become more involved and united as a town. During this community service event I met new people and learned life-long lessons that will help me later on. I highly encourage others to give some of their time to participate in community service to make their town a better one!

Evergreen Vally | Equalists This month, I attended the Digital Game Museum event. It was a very fulfilling experience. All we did was help input items into the items database, but it was a really nice atmosphere to work under. The director of the museum was so humble and fun to work with. The other people there were really kind and helpful. We even had a pizza lunch together and discussed games. We also met the director’s son who worked at Trion Worlds, a company that worked on games such as Rift. Overall, I thought it was a really interesting event and would definitely recommend video game enthusiasts check this place out.

I attended the Day in the Park event this month with a couple of fellow Key Clubbers. We were up early in the morning setting up the place with tents and tables. Some of us helped kids with fishing. It was a pretty calm and relaxed event. I was able to have fun serving with my members while also being able to enjoy the event hosted by Rose Herrera. I even got a picture with her!

I had a great time talking to the other Key Club members who also participated in this event.I liked the creative activities set up to entertain the children at this run and how the volunteers also played along with it. I look forward to helping out at more runs/walks because I enjoyed it so much!

Angelique Ngo Member As a regular Key Club volunteer, Angelique also participated in the harvest festivals at elementary schools.

Invasion Day was a very fun experience. We met Anthony Phan and learned a lot about school issues. After, we passed flyers around assigned neighborhoods. I met a lot of people and was more informed about our school district and how Anthony can improve it.

Last Sunday, I signed up to volunteer at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. I woke up at around 3 AM and drove up to the Alameda, and volunteered for about 7 hours. The first thing we did was help set up the tables and hook up hoses to the fire hydrants. Then we started filling hundreds of cups for the racers. The last thing we did was actually hand out the water to the racers as they passed by, and I had the personal pleasure of spraying a hose at some of them. It was a great experience for me as I got to meet new people and become closer with my fellow club members.

A Day in the Park was definitely a memorable experience, where I was able to volunteer with my local community; the event was hosted by District 8 of San Jose on November 11th. I arrived sharply at Lake Cunningham Park at 6:45 on a Saturday morning and met up with other Willow Glen Key Clubbers for our 7am shift. We participated in a variety of shifts throughout 7am and 3pm, which included helping out at the children’s pumpkin patch, assisting vendors, and running the check-in booths. Ultimately, this annual event’s successfully served its purpose of bringing people together in celebration of San Jose’s heritage through live entertainment, children activities, and free BBQ.

I volunteered at the Sand Court Cleanup on October 16th. Despite the hot temperature, it wasn’t a bad turn out. There were lots of students working hard to clean out weeds and pick up trash through the rays of the hot sun. It brought me great joy and unity to see so many Key, Interact and EAC members working together to clean the up the sand courts. As the VicePresident of Environmental Action club and a member of

Key club, I was elated to see many people willing to preserve the environment. At the end of the clean-up, we were all served pizza and drinks; it was fun having a meal with the people there. We still have more work to do on the sand courts, but hopefully, we will be able to fully clear out the sand courts, so they can be used by P.E classes and other recreational groups.

41 What is one goal you would like to achieve by the end of the school year? It doesn’t have to be for Key Club, it could be about school, life, family, friends, etc.

Responses "My goal for the rest of my term is to finish off strong. I've had a rocky start to my term, but I know that with the help of my board, we'll be able to accomplish our club goals! I came back from RTC with a lot of motivation to better my club and I'm really excited to leave my legacy." -Audrey Lopez-Valdez, Pioneer

My goal before District Convention is to implement a mindset within my members that self-service is more than devoting time to volunteer. It is a means of personal growth that will enable them to learn more about themselves and the community around them. - Cam Tu Phan, Andrew Hill

My goal before District Convention is to complete 50 service hours! - Khassidy Nguyen, Evergreen Valley

Making key club a place people will love to go to and feel like they belong is my goal for this term. I want members to feel included in our ohana and by creating tighter bonds with all of our members. I want to make more familiar connections with our members because if ever a time when nobody's around, your (key club) family is still there for you. That's why I also want to learn all of our member's names, know who each of them are, and try to make their key club experience truly "magical!" ☆☆☆ - Andy Pham, Andrew Hill
