Happy Holidays, SUPER VILLAINS!

VILLAINS! HO-HO-HO! The holiday season is just around the corner! I hope you have a lot planned for the month of December, because this season is all about giving back! Spread the winter love this month and make an impact in someone else’s life. Even though our division mascot is the Super Villain, you can all be HEROES by serving and making a difference in your community! I am incredibly proud of the huge impact that we, as a division, have made already. In October, Division 12 South served a total of 3,137 hours; as of October, our service hour total is 10,677 hours. THIS IS AMAZING! Keep up the great work, Super Villains! Continue to be serving leaders and continue to give back this month. I am looking forward to seeing how you will make a change in December. Because December is the perfect month to give, I have some presents for all of you golden leaders. These gifts come in the form of new concepts that we will be implementing within the division; including a point system, challenges of the month, member recognition, and new forms of communication! Aren’t you excited? I AM, TOO! Together, we will leave behind a golden legacy for next year’s leaders to build upon. I am looking forward to your attendance at the December DCM on December 13th, from 5PM-8PM at Gunderson High School. You don’t want to miss out! See you soon, Super Villains. FROM THE EAST TO THE WEST, D12SOUTH IS STILL THE BEST! Striving for service,

Lindon Tran

key club week

recap

KEY CLUB Bring a Friend to KEY CLUB

“KUDOS” to the KEY PLAYERS Below: Thank you notes by Santa Teresa Key Club for any adults who have helped them with their projects!

On Friday, STKC held an after school social to celebrate “Bring a Friend to Key Club.” We played ice breakers and held a series of mini-Olympic style games called “Race to the End of Summer!” At the end of the social, we fed our members with donuts and hot chocolate!

SHOW

To thank our club members, the board members of Gunderson Key Club created little gifts of cookies attached with a cute message for members! For advisers we made mint jars with a funny note.

WEEK

AND THE KEY CLUB WEEK

SPIRIT STICK GOES TO . . . .

CONNECT THE K’S Santa Teresa Key Club invited Kiwanis adviser Mrs. Wong to speak to the club during a meeting about how Key Club is related to the Kiwanis. At the end, they took a panoramic picture!

YOUR OWN WAY! The Key Club Week Spirit Stick will be awarded to Santa Teresa for their outstanding Key Club Week activity at the December DCM!

To end Key Club Week, Sobrato Key Club hosted a Panda Express fund raiser and created holiday cards for troops at the same time!

On Thanksgiving morning, Andrew Hill Key Clubbers volunteered for Turkey Trot! Because the month of November and December is mainly about giving back, we will be hosting a food can drive to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank! To thank our members for giving back to the community, we are going to reward them with goodie bags! We are also planning to volunteer for Christmas in the Park at the Kiwanis Food Booth! We hope that December will be a month fill with fun and events! -

EVERGREEN Valley

In the month of October, Evergreen Key Club has volunteered in numerous amounts of events such as Second Harvest Food Bank, Dead Time Dreams, and many more! One of the newer ones that we have done so far though was Fishing in the City at Lake Cunningham! On October 5th from 7AM to 12PM, all of our members that went taught children from San Jose how to fish and did this by having multiple stations! One of our members, Alvin Nguyen, taught children how to tie the knots and at the end of the day, he and the rest of the volunteers became closer to our community! This was a great event and is something that will definitely be in our calendar for the future! -

On November 9th Gunderson Key Club worked with our San Jose Kiwanis Club to beautify the Heritage Rose Garden as part of Key Club Week. Gunderson Pacman Ghosties Connected the Ks with Kiwanis, Circle K, Aktion Club, and other volunteers! They bravely pulled out weeds even though the task proved to be messy and hazardous at times when combined with laughter. They learned the skill of gardening from working around the area. By the end of their service the park was beautiful and the feeling of accomplishment ran deep within everyone. They celebrated the final day of Key Club Week with delicious cupcakes provided by our wonderful Kiwanians.

Painting Envelopes for Sunday Friends On November 16th we had Painting Envelopes for Sunday Friends. This service project was held in the Almaden Library. Participants have been painting envelopes with watercolors which will be used by the Sunday Friends Organization. Sunday Friends is a non-profit organization which offers a working alternative to charity. Volunteers help Sunday Friends through a variety of collaborative, carefully crafted activities, such as making gifts for children in hospitals, preparing healthy meals, cleaning the grounds of the host facility and writing letters to the Sunday Friends community. -

Oak Grove High School hosted their annual Halloween Fest on October 31st in the student parking lot. Halloween Fest is an e vent where kids can go Trick-or-Treating in a safe environment. At Halloween Fest, each club had their own booth to give out candy. Oak Grove Key Club had a booth and gave out candy and root beer floats. At our booth, we hosted a game of “Quidditch where the kids threw balls inside a hoop. It was really nice seeing the smiles on the kids! - Jason Bui, President

I had the incredible honor of being able to volunteer at the Veteran’s Day Parade in Downtown San Jose on November 11th with my fellow Key Club members. My job was to hold up flags and pictures of veterans of World War II as a part of the “Spirit of ’45.” I had the chance to hold a photo of Army veteran Joe Gonzales while riding in the car as him in the parade. Being able to do this was an extremely humbling experience, when I could hear the cheers for the veterans. It gave these men and women the pride and praise they deserve. -

On November 7th, from 3:30 to 5, Santa Teresa had a small on-campus service event after school called Card-Making for Soldiers in honor of Veterans Day. Even though there was only a day’s notice, many Key Clubbers stopped by to write letters for the soldiers currently stationed in another country. It was really nice to write ‘Thank you’ , ‘You’re a hero’, and ‘Stay strong’ to all the courageous heroes fighting for us! The atmosphere in a classroom was comfy and uplifting when everyone sat around and laughed and talked while decorating the thank you cards. This little event was memorable to me because it reminded me that every little thing I do to make a difference as a Key Clubber can make an impact whether it’s helping raise a thousand dollars for a cause, or writing a small thank you card to make someone else smile. - Celine Nguyen, Bulletin Editor

Coming to the Interkey Canned Food Drive was a fun experience for me. I met up at Tully Library on November 9th to go door to door asking for cans. I was able to do something new with my friends. It was interesting how each house was willing to provide cans. I believe we have helped families who don’t have food for Thanksgiving by doing this. This will provide them with the food they need to celebrate and enjoy with their families. - Emily Ros, Member
