Lieutenant Governor’s Welcome

Hello Fellow Supervillains! Welcome to the 1st Division Newsletter of the 2016-2017 term! Never would I have ever imagined being given the absolute honor to serve YOU, Division 12 South. As we are gradually starting our adventure into the new term, I advise you to take this time to reflect on yourself and your club. As a division, our goal is to achieve 20,000 service hours, raise $4,200 for The Pediatric Trauma Program, and $4,200 for The Eliminate Project. Although these goals seem a little intimidating, especially for a short term, I know that you, MIGHTY SUPEVILLAINS won’t let this stop you from making a difference in our community! With this in mind, I would like to make sure that all of us are abiding by the Key Club core values and trying our best in everything we do!!! Key Club Training Conference is coming up! KCTC was formerly called OTC and will take place on June 18th at Manresa State Beach from 9am-2:30pm. Get ready to spend the day with your fellow Key Clubbers from Region 17 at the beach where you’ll receive proper training, participate in ice breakers, and create memories with everyone! Did you know that only $1.80 can save a life? Eliminate Week is coming up on May 16th- May 20th. Get together with your club & organize fundraisers to eliminate Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus. Following that, on May 21st will be our FIRST DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING OF THIS TERM!! The DCM will be hosted by Leland Key Club at Greystone Park from 5:30pm-8:30pm. Our previous LTG, Anna Pham did a spectacular job at leading the division and I will continue moving us in a positive direction for this year! Serving as one villainous ohana, Jacklyn Vo Division 12 South Lieutenant Governor 2016-2017

District Convention 2016 Recap Key Clubbers from all over our CNH District had a fun time at District Convention 2016: Guardians of Service held at the Sacramento Convention Center! "My third District Convention and my first District Convention as president-elect for Santa Teresa Key Club is something to remember for. District Convention is one of my favorite Key Club events of all time where we celebrate service and leadership, past achievements and future beginnings, as well meeting old and new friends along the way. I enjoyed every single second of the seminar sessions and general sessions as well dancing with my friends at gov ball. Although I didn't make that many new friends, I did feel like I've gotten closer with the people in my home club and in Division 12 South. After DCON, I realized how much Key Club truly means to me emotionally and how heartbreaking it is to say goodbye to my seniors of class of 2016. As president, I hope to make all my past seniors proud of all the effort and achievements my home club will fullfill and that I would succeed at being the cool, passionate, and hard-working daddy I strive to become for STKC. If you're a Key Club member and you haven't attended District Convention, you're missing out!" -Justin Doan, STKC President 2016-2017

Attending my fourth and last District Convention made me have mix emotions about my entire Key Club career. I loved spending time with my home club from cheering to running around to make sure everything is going smoothly for my advisors. I had the amazing opportunity to host a workshop with IP Division 43 Lt. Governor, Hau Nguyen, and IP District Secretary, Amir Patel, on the importance of Improv in a member's daily life. Despite the long painful walk in heels to the convention center, I kept falling in love with Key Club over and over again throughout DCON. I loved the atmosphere the compassionate adults and teenagers created. I loved being surrounded by people who wanted to make a difference like I did. I am extremely proud of my home club for all their achievements as club officers were recognized for all their hard work and dedication to Key Club. I'm sad my term as Ann Sobrato Key Club President is over, but I know the club will be in great hands with the new board. -Janelle Saucedo, IP ASKC President 2015-2016

DID YOU KNOW? ELIMINATE WEEK: Our division will be participating in Eliminate Week on MAY 16th-20th to lead up to our first Division Council Meeting. Get together with your club to add a kick to fundraising and spreading awareness! Some ideas include having a Pie-anofficer to eliminate MNT, having Eliminate Project posters, and/or selling cookies to raise money!

- Maternal and neonatal tetanus is a swift and painful killer disease that killed 49,000 newborns in 2013 alone. -MNT kills one baby every 11 minutes. -Today we’ve raised US $110 million in cash and pledges for The Eliminate Project. -MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth.
