Happy November Elephants!

Fall Rally is right around the corner! Can you believe it? All the service and funds we’ve raised for PTP will be celebrated at one of the most spirited events of the year! I hope you are all going to be there to share that experience with us. Wait, what’s PTP? PTP stands for Pediatric Trauma Program. We raise funds to DONATE so that PTP can fund pediatric hospitals and protect children. Pediatric Trauma is the NUMBER ONE cause of death and injury in children under the age of 14. And together, we can help SAVE LIVES. Together, WE can make a difference! I hope you have been participating in our fundraisers and buying spirit gear as well as division shirts because it all goes back to the children! Think how many lives you could save with just one event.

Until next time Elephants!

pro rodeo

Every year Rowland Key Club participates in an event called Pro Rodeo that is held at the Industry Hills Expo Center. This event highlighted how our members are so flexible and how adaptable they are to different environments. From the beginning member arrived bright and early to help the Kiwanis of Hacienda Heights Setup. This consisted of walking with one of the advisors to go pick up the drinks and supplies. Then as a group we loaded the drinks and dumped them in a nice cold ice bath. As the day moved on our Key Clubbers realized that our neighboring booth needed help. They were the Lions Club of Industry. They quickly went oven and made themselves useful. They helped out by wiping down the cool refreshments and handed them to paying customers. On the other hand a few volunteer got to help out on the entrances, where they would make sure those who came in was a ticket holder and make sure that those who left had a stamp to be able to come back in. The ones who were by the entrance had the most fun because their advisor was an up and coming producer. His name was Mr. Goldwater and he lifted the atmosphere. Near the end of the day we realized that the pizza that we had to sell wasn’t doing to hot. So, with quick thinking we started liquidating all the pizza. What sold them was yelling out,”FREE PIZZA” but then saying,”BUY 1 GET 1 FREE.” All in all, this event was definitely one to remember and I am sure that you guys would be looking forwards to this event next year.

walnut family festival

The Walnut Family Festival that took place on October 8th involved booths of local companies and a parade. This family friendly event gathers the community together to recognize the corporations or service groups surrounding them. The booths advertise their purpose to the community or individuals. The performances by The Trip (top 40's, Steel Imagination (classic rock), and DSB (Journey Tribute Band) were truly phenomenal. Not only were there an Arts and Craft Booth, but there was also a business expo. A good portion of the festival was dedicated to the food businesses. On the other hand, the parade was a way for the families to come together and appreciate the community. Overall, the Walnut Family Festival is an amazing event that celebrates the community's accomplishments.

SOUTH HILLS club update Last month, South Hills KC amassed a large amount of students in the very first meeting of the term after a very successful Club Rush in the same week, which was a rather exciting prospect for the club officers. Sign-up sheets were filled to the brim as officers and friends walked around the school campus during lunch, waving signs and cheering for other students to join in the Key Club spirit. Much of the students who were happy to join the club were underclassmen, many of which were involved in Sierra Vista’s Builders Club in their junior high years. Now that many of them have moved on to Key Club in high school, the meeting room has become packed with rowdy but excitable students who are eager getting into the spirit of Key Club and serving their community!

Not everyone involved were just underclassmen though - juniors and seniors were involved as well, with some even involved with other clubs! This boost in attendance was also obvious in the attendance for the past pre-fall rally DCMs this and last month as well, where a big group of South Hills KC members had joined to learn cheers and meet with other members in other high schools. With many of these students and more excited and ready to serve the community, the officers are looking forward to a great year for South Hills, and hope that the momentum gained with the boost in attendance won’t falter in the meetings and events to come!

Pre-fall

Although everyone needed to wake up early instead of sleeping in, it was worth it. About 200 members from the Division arrived at Creekside Park in Walnut to prepare themselves for the upcoming Fall Rally in November. Everyone signed in and participated in all the fun ice breakers. Everyone gathered around a large tree to say the pledges and hold our monthly DCM. Then everyone split up into about 8 different groups. Each group contained 3 leaders that would guide us on how to chant the first cheer with motions and the rhythm that each cheer had. At first it was a little frustrating because we had to learn a long chant that most of us had never heard of in our lives, however after a while we all got a hang of it. It was a great experience for many new and continuing members. In the end it was worth it because everyone had a pleasant time bonding with each other and laughing. Many people are excited for Fall Rally and I would definitely recommend attending next year.

rally Pre-fall Rally was a great experience. Personally, I was able to meet new people (most of who were freshmen; exciting!) as well as teach others the cheers when they were lost. There were so many people at the park; more than I thought there would be! That made playing ice breakers a little bit more difficult than usual, but everyone was still up and ready to participate and give their all into meeting others. Each member was given a number that corresponded to a group, so meeting new people was an easy task. The cheers were wild as usual and they were very fun to dance and follow along with. Afterwards, everyone gathered as a big crowd one last time to sing our cheers together with lots of spirit and energy! It was definitely a fun event.

poster painting

Key Club offers a wide variety of service events that incorporate members of all interests. Poster painting allows people of all artistic talent to participate and contribute toward a common goal, making it a popular event amongst our members. This month, Diamond Bar Key Club held several after school poster painting events to make a poster for the Homecoming Football Game. It was a fun event that allowed members to have fun and bond while serving their community. It was also a chance to meet new people of all grade levels because we just recently held our first general meeting after Club Rush week.
