Ice Skating

To wrap up the year on a fun note the December DCM was held at the Ontario Ice Rink! Divisions 15 North and 15 West joined us as all three divisions held their individual meetings and debriefed members before everyone took off to the ice! Rowland was announced club of the month after demonstrating great work and spirit at events and our LTG, Chloe, went over some news to keep members informed! After the awards were handed out and information

Skating DCM!

was given, members got their skates and took off (some more wobbly than others). Members had a great time and Josh S. even said “This event was so fun and I enjoyed it so much! While skating was not easy, it was so fun hanging out with other belugas and giraffes! The environment was so joyful and I felt like everyone was enjoying themselves!”

09

Shepard’s Pantry Food Bank

On November 26, the division held an event collaborating with Shepherd’s Pantry to assist in food packaging for the homeless and breaking down packaging to be reused. Several members attended this event! We each spent over 3 hours helping out the staff at Shepherd’s Pantry led by Mrs. Francis. Our tasks included sorting canned food, separating and refrigerating a big amount of fresh produce, and breaking down boxes. It was a lot of manual labor but it felt worth it for how much work we accomplished. I’d estimate that we sorted over 30 crates of food. Personally, it was a very enlightening experience on how much work was put into helping feed people in need.

Bracelet Making Event

During the month of December, Charter Oak Key Club partnered with our school’s Action Awareness Club to make braided bracelets to raise money for Iranian and Middle Eastern Women’s rights. The event was created in honor of the late Mahsa Amini, one of the many women in Iran who have faced intense suffering. The bracelets made were to be sold at our school and the collected funds would go to charities that help Iranian women. It was wonderful to meet up to do something for a great cause. One noticeable observation during the event was that many people were learning how to braid for the first time.

Although they were struggling, it was inspiring to see how they were trying their best to create beautiful designs to be sold for the fundraiser. A wholesome atmosphere also filled the workspace, as experienced braiders were patiently teaching newbies the art. When Key Club Editor Wade Mu finished braiding his first ever bracelet, an aphorism popped into his head. “Hard work always pays off, especially when you persevere through what seems impossible.”

11

Santa’s Village

With the first shift starting bright and early at 7 am, members started prepping the Kiwanis booth at Santa’s village for the West Covina Kiwanis Christmas parade! Gifts and books to give to kids were unloaded from trucks and we helped decorate the main parking lot and stage where families gathered and local elementary school choirs performed! After carrying banners and marching in the parade, we began our shifts that consisted of passing out gifts and books to a large crowd of little kids. They were all so sweet and many parents thanked us and wished everyone happy holidays making the shifts fly by!

12

Bonita Induction

On November 28th, Bonita Key Club held an induction for over 30 members! The Bonita board helped to decorate the choir room with streamers, garlands, and more along with several members before the event. When the doors opened, people were able to enjoy sweet treats and hot cocoa while listening to music. Then, everybody sat down and we started the induction off with a game of Jeopardy. The room was split into two teams and members had to guess what mascots were in our region! After that, we watched music videos that each grade level had created as part of a competition.

LTG Chloe Hartanto, former president Dylan Truong, and former president Joelle Huang judged each video on lyrics and creativity.

General member Bella Ochoa said “I enjoyed watching all the videos each grade created and I’m glad we [juniors] won!” Members were then called up to receive a membership certificate. Finally, we announced our superlatives that the members had previously voted on. There were some fun superlatives like “most likely to forget medical forms” but also some for recognition like “most dedicated to service.” General member Rishika Ravichandran said that “it was a fun time and the desserts were great!” Overall, it was a fun and memorable event for members to celebrate Key Club!

13

I Poly Yearbook Photos

On December 1st, IPoly held a general meeting, and took our club photo for our school’s yearbook! As usual, we held our general meeting in our advisor’s classroom during lunch. We discussed multiple items such as cool upcoming division service events like the

West Covina Kiwanis Christmas Parade and Rose Parade Float

Decorating! After the meeting concluded, we made our way to a nearby staircase to take our club photo! Of course, we had to rep our Division 35 East merch for the occasion. IPoly saw a lot of red; the Ellie spirit really showed!

14

Isaiah’s Rock Service Event

Isaiah’s Rock was a 2 day service event that consisted of packaging bags of food to give to families in need for thanksgiving and helping distribute the food! The first shift took place the night before the drive-through food drive itself and members sorted through canned goods and helped organize them into bags ready for distribution. Keyclubbers got to socialize as they sorted and had a great time while serving their community and helping prepare for the next morning shift. The drivethrough food donation and collection was very busy and consisted of prepping trunks with boxes and filling them with food for the holidays. Rowland keyclub member, Wilson Zhen said “It was a great and fulfilling experience that I really enjoyed being a part of, and the Jesus music created a great atmosphere!”
