FALL RA LLY 05

/what is fall rally? Fall Rally is an event held every year for Key Clubbers to come and MEET others, to show their spirit in how much they love key club and SERVICE, as well as being able to get together and celebrate the amount they raised for PTP (Pediatric Trauma Program). It is one of the most UNFORGETTABLE events a Key Clubber will have in their high school years.

06

/how did we prepare? Division 35 East had its third and final Pre-Fall Rally. Over one hundred Key Clubbers gathered together at Clear Creek Park to learn the cheers and comebacks for the Spirit Battle at Fall Rally against other divisions in our region. We kicked off the day with several ice breakers to get people familiar with each other. Next, the Division Council Meeting started with the Division Leadership Team introducing themselves to the members old and new. Subsequently, each club gave a status report of what their club was doing. Finally, it was time to start learning the actual cheers. The large group was split into smaller groups and assigned several STCs. After learning the cheers, we all got a short break before preparing for a spirit battle between groups. Everyone gave their all and expressed that contagious spirit. It was a fun event and an opportunity to see friends I had made through past Division events.

D35E all gathered in Creekside Park for the third pre-fall rally to come together and hang out, eat pizza and drink boba, and learn the cheers to this year’s Fall Rally! South Hills had a great turnout of 13 students to prepare for the rally and boost their spirits. The cheers were incredibly fun to learn, as everyone who shouted along to the rhythm were quite excitable. There were two main cheers to learn throughout the DCM, and some ways the leaders taught the other members were to follow them along, and to also let them do the cheers for themselves and evaluate them on their efforts. Five comebacks were also learned, and afterward, the members were put to the test by all gathering in their groups and competing in a mock spirit battle! Soon after the attendees left with their stomachs full from all the food served and spirits high, excited for the Fall Rally that was soon to come.

PRE-FALL RALLIES

08

Fall Rally is one of the BEST experiences a key clubber will have. Despite waking up early, the long drive, and the wait to get into Six Flags, IT’S

100% WORTH IT!

Fall Rally is the best time to make a bunch of friends that you can meet up with at the next Fall Rally. These friendships are the best because there is so many things to talk about and bond over. It is an amazing feeling to finally see a friend you make from the previous fall rally and catch up with each other while waiting in lines for the rides.

/why should you go? (written by Tiffany Yeh)

In addition to all the fun, so many amazing people will come up to you and hug you and it's a great way to spark a friendship. Fall Rally is my favorite part of the entire school year since I am able to let loose and forget about school for one day and just have fun.

/your fall rally experience: On November 12, I attended my second Fall Rally South with hundreds of other Key Clubbers to raise money for the Pediatric Trauma Program. It was an enthusiastic event full of excitement from the beginning of the day where Division 35 East met at 6 AM to the end of the day when we left Six Flags Magic Mountain. Many friendly strangers were hugged and many of them had asked how I felt. As I expected, the spirit session was my favorite part of the day. It was surreal being in front of more than 300 elephants and watching everyone unite together, from simple movements such as the wave to our two cheers that we had worked so hard on. Although Division 35 East didn't win the spirit stick this year, I could feel how much passion and happiness each person had as they were cheering. Strangers were intertwined with each other through this special connection and the rush of adrenaline when we were cheering. It was an amazing sight when every one of the Lieutenant Governors up on stage had the biggest smiles you could ever imagine, watching their Divisions cheer their hearts out. It was even more amazing when they announced that Division 15 had won the spirit session and their Lieutenant Governor, Ricky, jumped up and down and cried tears of joy. Fall Rally South 2016 was a memorable one that celebrated membership, service, and of course, our Key Club motto: Caring–Our way of life.

Fall Rally is definitely something that I look forward to every year. This year was my second and last Fall Rally (/cries). Even though waking up at 4AM and helping with preparations was so tiresome, it was an event I would never forget. The Spirit session was my most favorite part of Fall Rally since everyone looked so cheerful and excited. It was great seeing all the Lieutenant Governors doing their thing up on stage (shoutout to Emily Chen you are gucci) with their proud smiles for their division. To 35 East: thank you all for coming and making this event so memorable. You all cheered your hearts out with as much spirit and love as you can, and it honestly makes me so proud. I’m so happy to be serving members as great as 35 East alongside the DLT!

thanks for buying me ily all :-) s/o to emily chen for being an amazing ltg luh u

I wasn't able to attend Fall Rally last year so I was really looking forward to this year's event. I am so glad to say that it was beyond what I expected. From the enthusiastic atmosphere to the friendly faces, I loved every second of Fall Really. Participating in spirit battles was absolutely exhilarating, especially being able to witness firsthand the creativity and dedication of other divisions. Everyone was loving and welcoming, with some STCs wearing handmade "Free Hugs" signs. Overall, I was pleasantly overwhelmed by the devotion and love that so many students have for Key Club. I am most definitely looking forward to another year of spirited passion and devotion.

Fall Rally South took place at Six Flags Magic Mountain at the Golden Bear Theater on Saturday, November 12. Being honest I was afraid of going because I had never been to Six Flags and I don't really like roller coasters. However, my lovely club president and other members convinced me to go. I was starting to get excited for the rally to begin, and when it did, the CNH board did their introductions. LTGs for each division started being auctioned off. Then It was finally time to say our first cheer. My stomach was turning and butterflies were beginning to form. I sang the cheer with all of my heart and sang it loud and proud. I didn’t care that the person in front of me kept accidentally hitting my face with her pom poms. This was because we had made it to the second round. We chanted our second cheer and had already started to lose our voices. Although we didn’t win the spirit stick this year, we all put in everything we had and gave our best. I even got to experience something so great that almost made me want to cry of joy. A girl was crying because her division hadn’t made it to the second round and she wanted them to win. A random person from a different division went up to her, gave her a bear hug, and told her she did an awesome job at the rally. They said that it wasn’t all about winning but trying their hardest, and that every loser is a winner at heart. That made me realize how true that is. You could lose every game or competition that you are in, but as long as you try your hardest and put in all your effort, you will always be a winner at heart. But the part that saddened me the most was realizing that our LTG Emily Chen and the other STC’s would not be with us next year. They will be graduating from high school this year and will be starting a new chapter in their lives. I look up to each and every one of them because they all make a difference in everyone’s lives. At the Rally, never once did I see a frown on their face. They seemed excited throughout the whole entire day. This is definitely going to be my most memorable event because not only did I get to spend my first time at Six Flags with my siblings and friends, but I also got to experience a once per year Rally that I didn’t even know existed. Thanks to Key Club, I know it won’t be my last Fall Rally and I am looking forward to next year in order to make it better and have first timers enjoy the event as much as I did. If I wouldn’t have been in Key Club, I probably would have never gone to Six Flags nor met new people that are now some of my closest friends. This day is for sure staying in my heart for a very long time.

Fall Rally was a really good experience. It was my first year, and I was so glad to be able to make new friends and see how spirited everyone was. It was amazing seeing different divisions and their spirit animals and cheers/remixes. It was exciting and fun when people asked how you felt and receiving and giving hugs. This has made my Key Club experience even more fun and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us! :D

Last year was my first fall rally. I remember it being my first year in key club and not knowing many people. I went to prefall rally #2 and stood in a circle as I was being taught the cheers. I admired the confidence of the STC's in the center and was jealous of all these close friendships I didn't have. Fast forward to this year when I applied to be an STC and went to prefall rally #2 and 3. I was able to finally be one of the people I admired most. I felt like I belonged and the confidence came with it. I became much more outgoing and independent and that's how key club changed me. This year's fall rally was an entirely new experience, because I had been able to socialize with many new people without feeling awkward or uncomfortable. I felt like a bigger part of key club and was able to cheer my heart out while encouraging everyone else! These are the cheers I helped to edit! These are the cheers I helped teach! I'm so proud of my Head STC, Lindy, even though I had not been able to personally meet her, however knowing how someone could have all this confidence is something I really admire. Thanks to everyone who made this my favorite fall rally!

japanese health fair

A total of 14 members from Covina High School showed up and helped at the Japanese Health Fair held by the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center one Saturday morning. Volunteers set up chairs, tables, mats, and posters so the fair can finally get started. In addition, we were asked to organize and divide up fresh picked greens to distribute to those who had filled out a survey for their organization. A select few also assisted in passing out free goodie bags with a poster to help attendees get through the fair without feeling overwhelmed. In all, it was nice seeing different health beliefs from different cultures and it is always fun volunteering for them. This was one of our first big events for Covina and I am glad that people signed up since we are a newly chartered club from 2 years ago. Here’s to hoping our club grows larger in the future!

Key Clubbers from Rowland hIgh school and Glen A. Wilson high school gathered at Schabarum Regional Park to bask in some service and spirit on a sunny Sunday morning. Members were able to display their creativity and appreciation for our soldiers through the creation of Cards for Troops, just in time for Veteran’s day. With Fall Rally arriving in less than a week, key clubbers from Division 35 East and 35 West bonded over the mutual making of a variety of spirit gear including: ribbon leis, tutus, “Free Hugs” signs, capes, and more! To display our excitement and hype for fall rally, both divisions battled it out by exuberantly shouting cheers in mock spirit sessions. Experienced members were able to demonstrate the process of initiating spirit battles to the new. This event intertwined service, spirit, and creativity, the very epitome of key club, making it a memorable one.

haunted maze

Every year, Walnut hosts its very own Haunted Maze and, each year, many volunteers from Key Club would show up with great enthusiasm to scare our residents and friends. Being an avid fan of Halloween, this event easily became a favorite of mine as I, along with many other volunteers, would contribute our time and effort in not only spreading Halloween spirits, but also creating our community’s infamous maze. Decked out in this year’s theme of the Walnut Haunted Maze, volunteers can be found persistently working for the next six hours in devising a spooky night for all who dare to go through. The Lucky Seven Haunted Maze began on a Friday, the 28th of October, and lasted until 10:30 p.m. the next day. Each day, volunteers from a variety of clubs within the community would come dressed in their costumes before being whisked away to get their makeup done. The process alone took over an hour long as artists would disguise each volunteer, never forgetting to include intricate details that would, hopefully, induce more fear within maze-goers. There was an assortment of characters for the volunteers to transform into, some chose to take on the role of a clown while others find their place as a bruised and bloody victim. From 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., volunteers would prepare for their roles by making sure they were well fed and all ready to scare visitors for the next two and a half hours. Once the clock striked 6:30, volunteers were then escorted to their rooms before assuming the characters they chose to play until 9:30 that night. From screaming to unexpectedly springing up from a disguised area, volunteers were successful in scaring many of the guests that came through. As the maze closed, volunteers can be found crawling from underneath the tables or popping out from their hiding places to help the Walnut staff clean up. It wasn’t until late into the night, 10:00 p.m., when the hard working volunteers were dismissed by the obviously satisfied staff as they thanked the volunteers for their diligence and helping them sell over 500 tickets in the course of two nights.
