As Mother’s Day was just around the corner, we wanted to bring a bit of happiness to the elderly, to give something that would brighten up their lives during this pandemic which became a period of isolation for many. So on May 1st, 2021, we held our very first service event of the 20212022 term: Letters for Seniors! Letters for Seniors was a service event that was held on Zoom, where our members wrote short and sweet messages and created cards for senior
citizens to celebrate Mother’s Day. Though nothing could be matched with the ecstatic and endearing feeling of motherly love, we hoped that we could still bring a smile to the senior citizens’ faces. To create the cards, multiple tutorials were provided with a variety of card designs, so each and every card would be unique and creative. The materials we used included paper, pens and markers, and each member made at least two cards. Our handmade

KEY CLUB MEMBER LESLIE RUIZ SAID, “ALTHOUGH THE EVENT WAS DIFFICULT (I WAS STARING AT THE SCREEN FOR QUITE SOME TIME TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRITTEN), THE EVENT WAS PRETTY FUN SINCE WE WERE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER! A LITTLE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL MOMENT IF YOU WILL. WE ALL CONTRIBUTED AND PUT OUT OUR THOUGHTS AND I GUESS I REALLY LIKED THAT ASPECT OF IT BECAUSE WE WERE ABLE TO SHARE OUR IDEAS AND REACH A CONCLUSION THAT WE ALL FOUND FITTING!”

“The reason why I joined Key Club in the first place was because all my friends were doing it, if I were to be honest! However, as I went to more events and got to know more people, I soon began to realize that this was a community/family that works together to help out the world that we live in! As I now became the new Secretary for this club, I further realized how much time and dedication it takes to run this place, but along the way I became closer with new people and built stronger relationships with my friends! :)“ - RUTHIE KANG, COVINA

FUNDRAISER Recently, Walnut Key Club held a boba fundraiser at “Boba Bora” for a day in order to help raise funds for the charity,”pediatric trauma program.” In order to help spread the word, flyers were posted on social media and stories to encourage several members to come. The fundraiser was
open to all members of Key Club, and in order to make sure the funds were going towards the right organization, members would show the flyer to the cashier before ordering their drink. Overall, for our first fundraiser, we raised $24.93 in total. I felt like this fundraiser was a good way
for people to bond because of the lack of in person bondings and events this year. As our club begins to transition out of the online phase, we are hoping to hold more fundraisers that allow members to come together to relax and enjoy some snacks and drinks. - Rachel Kao, Walnut Tech Editor

BE A R E R A
We kicked off the term on May 1st, 2021, with the April Division Council Meeting (DCM), and a Bare Bears service project over ZOOM. Division 35 East, Division 35 West, and Goldstone KIWIN’S and 35 schools were in attendance to serve the community and celebrate the beginning of a new term. We made bookmarks with templates, but we were also given the liberty of coming up with our own concept to design our bookmarks. There was a lot of creative freedom with this service project! Not only were bookmarks made, but the new Division Leadership Teams (DLT) were announced as well. Overall, this event and project was a great start to the brand new term, filled with laughter, good energy, and overall just a lot of fun! - Emily Wong, Charter Oak Publicist
Joshua Santhirasegari, the D35E event coordinator said, “The We Bare Bears April DCM was definitely a great DCM and service event! I liked the service project and the theme was very cute! It was nice seeing the LTGs kind of dress up as the bare bears characters! I had a really fun time!”
FIRST GENERAL of iPoly MEETING “I joined Key Club because I wanted to help out a bit more in my community. Not only that, but I also get to meet other people as well as see friends that are a part of Key Club at other schools.” - ANYA RAGASA, IPOLY “I joined Key Club because it was the only club I was familiar with since my older brother was in it when he was in high school. Although it was a club that I thought would get me the CAR hours I need to graduate, it has become more than that. Being in Key Club has allowed me to be a part of many things, such as friendships, families, and experiences.... AND it has given me so many opportunities that I thought would be limited to myself but it isn’t :)” - VANESSA CAO, NOGALES
On April 27th, iPoly of our members. After Highschool Key Club introducing themselves, held their first general each officer said what meeting of the term. We they were most excited were joined by both old for this term. Based on and new members, as their responses, we can well as our special guest, tell how excited they are Mrs. Price. During this to improve our home club meeting our officer board and recruit new members. introduced our club’s shift When asked about the general from reminder to google meeting, our event outreach chat to help members coordinator Jessica Pasaribo said, keep track of events. “It was exciting to officially kick Around 40 people were off the 2021-2022 term with our added to our google first general meeting, meet new chat that day. It was also people, and hopefully see more at the perfect opportunity our next event.” to properly introduce - Roslyn Nava, iPoly Editor our officer board to all
MESSAGES OF HOPE
18
This past month one of the service events we held was a “Messages of Hope” zoom call on April 23rd, 2021. The event centered around writing messages of hope for children who were in need of a little more hope and love at this moment in their lives. For this event we asked members to submit their messages using a website made by the World Pediatric Program who would then share the messages we wrote for the children to them on behalf of us. Overall the event was a success with all the members who attended the zoom call competing with one another in a
Reflecting upon the event the host of the call and current Covina Key Club President Thomas Le had this to say : “Messages of Hope was a really beautiful key club event! There were a lot more members that joined that I initially thought would! Additionally this event allowed many key club members the opportunity to send positive messages online to many ill hospital children. I also enjoyed having the job of making them laugh or smile through my messages. In the end I think many of the members enjoyed the event a lot as some even continued writing messages to the children even after our zoom event ended!” light-hearted service competition throughout the event on who was able to submit the most messages. Nevertheless while the competition aspect of the call was a fun engaging moment for all our members, the true highlight of this event was knowing that through setting aside some time from our collective busy schedules and doing a simply gesture like writing an inspirational message to a child in need we would instantly be bringing joy and happiness to them which was a very rewarding feeling for us all. - Bea Guarin, Covina Editor
