T-SHIRT TOTE BAGS By: Roslyn Nava, iPoly

On September 30th, iPoly Keyclub held our first in-person service opportunity in nearly two months, a t-shirt tote bag making event. This event took place on our very own campus during lunch time, which proved to be a good location because the turnout was great. We understand that it can sometimes be difficult to make it to outside events because most of our members come from different cities, so by making it on

80

campus it was more easily accessible for our members. During this event, we made tote bags out of old t-shirts or other pieces of clothing by following a tutorial on youtube. This event was both resourceful and beneficial to those we will be donating these bags to. Participants had a great time bonding while creating these bags and had the opportunity to catch up with friends that they may not see as often.

WHEN ASKED ABOUT HER EVENT OUTREACH COOR SAID, “I LIKED THAT I COU T-SHIRTS INTO TOTE BAG MAKE AND

S

R OPINION ON THE EVENT, OUR RDINATOR JESSICA PASARIBUI ULD UPCYCLE MY OLD UNUSED GS THAT WERE BOTH EASY TO D SUSTAINABLE.”

CLEARLY, THIS EVENT WAS A SUCCESS AND THOSE WHO DID NOT FINISH THEIR TOTE BAGS WERE ABLE TO TAKE THEM HOME TO FINISH.IPOLY KEY CLUB IS ALREADY ENVISIONING MORE ON CAMPUS SERVICE EVENTS SUCH AS THIS ONE.

“I’m really excited to meet new people.” - GUICELY ROSALES, NORTHVIEW “I’m most excited to experience the energetic environment of spirited individuals.” - SHARON WANG, WALNUT

RECORD SETTING MEMBERSHIP

ON OUR GOOGLE CLASSROOM ALONE WE ARE AT OVER 60+ MEMBERS STRONG WHICH IS HUGEEEE FOR US! THESE NUMBERS HAVE ALREADY TRANSLATED INTO BIG TIME SHOW-UPS FROM OUR COVINA KEY CLUB. THE COVINA ELLIES SURE KNOW HOW TO MAKE THEMSELVES HEARD!

10

From this past month one of our main focuses for the club was garnering promotion for our membership drive! One of goals was to become one of the most prominent clubs at Covina High and raise our number of members this year. Collectively as a board we tried to promote what makes key club so great onto all the students as we truly believe Key

Club is such a unique and special club that involves the very best of people. So far we think that message has really resonated within campus as it has already been one of the best years in Covina Key Club history. Our club has grown immensely in size this year compared to the past few years which has been an amazing sight for all of us to see.

All of this has made our president so excited for the future we now get to do in the future. Here’s what he has to say : “I can’t even begin to

express my excitement for what this year has in store for us. I’ve been on the Key Club board for the past 3 years and from what I’ve already seen thus far we are on pace for a record setting year. I love my club and I feel honored to be leading such a great group!”

WATCH OUT D35E THE COVINA ELLIES ARE HOT ON YOUR TAILS JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE….

“I’m excited to see my key club friends from other divisions.” - BENJAMIN LUGO, IPOLY

HALLOWEEN BOOKMARKS By: Emely Gonzalez, Northview

“I’m most excited for the rollercoasters and the experience, because I love rollercoasters.” - LUCY ZHAO, WALNUT

For the past month, our Key Club hosted this year’s Club Rush booth and we were so excited to welcome new people, introduce what Key Club is about, and invite them to our upcoming General Meeting! On September 24, we had our first general meeting after Club Rush with all our new members. We introduced the club and our first service event to prepare for the coming

month of October, as well as held our Homecoming Nominations. For the same week of the 23rd to the 30th of September, we had our Pause for a Week service week, an app that allowed students to earn cryptocurrency when they stopped using their phones which was then sent to charities! We ended the month on a great note with our Halloween Bookmarks Zoom event.

We made bookmarks for a local elementary school on the 29th of September which many seemed to enjoy including our Editor, Guicely Rosales! SHE SAYS “IT WAS REALLY FUN, WE GOT TO KNOW THE PRESIDENT MORE AND WE TALKED ABOUT HALLOWEEN COSTUMES AND WE HAD A REALLY REALLY GOOD TIME GETTING TO KNOW EVERYONE.”

11

NOGALES CLUB FAIR Last Month, on September 20th and September 21st, Nogales Key Club participated in Nogales’ Club Fair! The event gave our club an opportunity to socialize and get new members! We set up a table for the club with a tri-fold poster detailing what our club is about! We also had a fun photo

12

cutout for the people who checked our table out. The turnout was great! So many students had checked out our table and joined the club! The cutout was an amazing photo opportunity that also got people’s attention. It was exciting to see all the new faces and familiarize ourselves with the kind, spirited new

members of our club! Brenda Ornelas-Gallegos, one of our newest club members, states, “What really intrigued me about the clubs’ table was how welcoming it was in general. The activities and posters it displayed would really hook you in and make you feel included!” We’re so glad to continue

PANDA EXPRESS

FUNDRAISER By: Rachel Kao, Walnut

homas lar, Nogales

“I’m most excited for the rollercoasters, and just in general because i’ve never been to six flags before.” - LUCY ZHAO, WALNUT

In the past month, Walnut Key club collaborated with IPoly key club to host a Panda Express fundraiser. Because of the complications of which Panda Express location to choose, our clubs decided to instead make the fundraiser online. Thus meaning that if you were to participate in the fundraiser, you would have to apply the code “905196” in the coupon code box during online checkout on the panda express website, or on the app. On the other hand, because the fundraiser was

online, it was much more flexible to go to the location closest to you to pick up the food. People living close to IPoly High School could easily go to their local panda express, while people living near Walnut High School could go to the one located next to the village. Through this, it was extremely efficient and convenient, and in total, we were able to raise 98.66 dollars. Personally, I think this collaboration was a great way for both clubs to earn money and hopefully we will be able to collaborate again in the future.

SPOTLIGHT ON SERVICE PROGRAM

THE KIWANIS FAMILY

The Kiwanis Family has been serving Key Club since 1925 through its sponsored leadership clubs to “help people of all ages develop the heart to serve, answer the call to lead and accept the courage to engage.” During the month of November, CNH puts its volunteer efforts towards recognizing the hours the Kiwanis Family dedicates.

EVENT IDEAS - interclub socials: movie nights & talent shows - kiwanis krafts: your members can make origami, paper flowers, scrapbooking, etc. - letters to kiwanis: work with your members on cards of gratitude for your Kiwanians - bingo night: Gather your Key Club members to volunteer as waiters, DJ’s, and a bingo caller for additional service hours. On the day of the event, collect a small entrance fee to support your fundraising efforts for a charitable cause/your club’s savings.

“For me I’m most excited to meet all of the people in the area that are motivated by the same things I am! I love the key club community and to be honest there’s nothing quite like it. As a senior it’s the last time I can attend Fall Rally so I can’t wait to be cheering at the top of my lungs with all of them and hopefully we get that spirit stick!” - TAMMY LI, COVINA
