HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR! If you don’t celebrate … it’s high time to switch into celebration gear anyways as we are nearing and inching closer to the end of the 2012-2013 term!! It really is such a bittersweet time period: a period to reflect back on a year’s worth of accomplishes, to remember to upload and share photos from six months back, to congratulate and encourage all new leaders into the 2013-2014 term! Even though I say I term is winding down and coming to a close, it is far from there is much left to look forward to –our Division Council Meetings, District Convention 2013, the Division 41 North and South Year-End Banquet, International Convention KC-DC 2013 … there is so much to look forward too! In wrap up, thank you to all who came out to the Mr. Key Club Pageant this past President Day Weekend Holiday (Monday 19 February) all who were there can testify how great that event was ;) I also want to give another hurrah for making through first semester and starting out the second strong! In reminder, as many clubs did take momentary pauses and breaks to study for finals, don’t forget to kick it back into high gear and start serving again! In addition to the division goal of 8,000 hours served, our CNH District Governor Alyssa Yocom also has a district goal of serving 800,000 service hours … let’s help our District Governor realize her set goal! Keep checking your many resources for all things Key Club related as there is still so much left! On the Prowl for Service,

Winter Wonderland in Aliso Viejo

[Member] February 2nd was the much awaited “Snowfest at the Great Park in Aliso Viejo. Families, with their young children, all got to experience snow without the hassle of putting chains on their car or worrying about the weather being too cold. All the children got to experience the slopes in a familiar environment; it was fun for all. Once the kids were tired out, they could make bookmarks or get temporary tattoos and maybe top it off with a big cookie from the Renaissance club. Key Club members got together to shovel the snow and set up the slopes for the children, and they even provided them with a chance to meet and

off with a big cookie from the Renaissance club. Key Club members got together to shovel the snow and set up the slopes for the children, and they even provided them with a chance to meet and take a picture with the beloved Frosty the snowman. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and absolutely worth a little work to make the day special for all of those kids.

Dashing All The Way

[Member] The wonderful city of Lake Forest held an event on February 2: Snow Fest. Snow Fest is held annually, and children go around Pittsford Park doing various activities. The whole day at the park was filled with great excitement and laughter as children got their face painted, rode on little rides, and sled down the famous snow hill. There were many volunteers that came out that day to help with line control and make sure that kids don’t crash into each other at the end of the hill because they were going so fast. They were all from Division 41 South! Everyone had a

They were all from Division 41 South! Everyone had a blast at Snow Fest and I’m hoping it’ll be even more fun next year!

Welcome ’13-’14 CVHS Executive Board! “The Magic Flute” Concert

[President] On January 18th, CVHS Key Club held its executive board elections for the upcoming '13-'14 executive board. As the members filled the room, the candidates lined themselves up on the side of the room, and one-by-one, they walked to the front, introduced themselves, and gave their moving, hilarious, sincere, and passionate speeches to convince their fellow members that they were qualified to be an officer for the upcoming year. When the ballots were counted, I was ecstatic to see who next year's CVHS executive officers would be: leading CVHS Key Club, working to retain and to improve, as well as spread

to see who next year's CVHS executive officers would be: leading CVHS Key Club, working to retain and to improve, as well as spread Key Club's goals and values in the community and at school. The baton that has been passed on from generation to generation of CVHS Key Club officers has now been passed to the elected officers, and I believe that there is no other group of people as qualified, deserving, and committed as those who were elected that day.

Laguna Niguel Marathon

[Service Commissioner] On a freezing winter morning of February 17, Capo Key Clubbers volunteered at the Laguna Niguel Triathlon over at the Regional Park. Overall, the triathlon was an amazing experience. Despite having to be there at six in the morning—I know everyone likes to sleep in—we had fun preparing for the race and passing out water to the runners. After about an hour, the cold started to set in. We had to find a way to survive, and fast. Some of us ran with the runners for a short time, while others searched for the sun that was across the park. We knew we were

Some of us ran with the runners for a short time, while others searched for the sun that was across the park. We knew we were doing this for a good cause, as the runners thanked us as we gave encouraging support to help push them forward and complete the race.

New Board for the New Term [VP] As the Lunar New Year just came around, we have our new board set and ready to be trained. As of now we are getting ready for the Mr. Key Club Pageant, the Coaster Run and Knott’s Berry Farm, Easter egg baskets for Camp Pendleton, and the annual Nellie Gail Easter Egg Hunt. We are busy with upcoming events and slowly acclimating to the new transition, but we are still ready to serve and have fun!

American Legion Society

[President] A few weeks ago, a fellow Kiwanian came and told our club about the American Legion Society and the Oratory Contest they were giving out to high school students who could present a speech. This Oratory Contest was meant to help build responsibility, character, and confidence. Our secretary-elect, Steven Debolt participated and was a success! They came to our club this month and presented the award to him as well as a $100 prize. Congratulations to him! We invited his mom out to our meeting and our principal so they could see him shine!
