Editor’s Note
Hello,
!
This month was quite a failure in terms of content to be put into the newsletter. The poll didn’t pan out as I had hoped. I have, as of this writing, seven responses with the only unique answer being, “GETTING TURN UP”, which, although poetic, doesn’t warrant a section in the newsletter devoted to it. A lieutenant governor’s message also, unfortunately, wasn’t a possibility.
!
If all of that wasn’t enough, it has been a slow month (even compared to normal standards) for club content. But I will march on. Remember clubs, submit your content and help your DNE to show you and your achievements off.
!
Until next time,
!

Tesoro Mission Viejo Bake Sale On February 23rd, Tesoro Key Club hosted a bake sale to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Orange County. We set up a table of homemade goods, ranging from cookie brownies to gluten free cookies to chocolate covered strawberries outside of the Mission Viejo Pavilions and got to work. The event was fun and we had a great time waiving signs and raising money for the children. Everyone liked our baked goods and some gave almost $40 without even grabbing a treat. One kind man even donated and told us to give a brownie to someone who needs it more. There were many people who were willing to donate and overall it was a huge success: we raised $557.46 in total! It was a huge accomplishment and we deďŹ nitely reached our goal. The best part of bake sales has to be seeing the children's faces light up like Christmas trees when they receive a cookie or a brownie. It makes the bake sale more enjoyable and truly inspires me to continue serving. We help children by raising money for CHOC and we make children happy by providing a little something to sweeten up their day. Also, during bake sales, our club tends to get very energetic and we like to twirl our signs around, dance, or even shout—in a friendly way of course—in order to get the word out and raise money for children in need. We are very motivated and support each other in order to inspire all members of the club to get out there and be social and passionate in order to achieve our goal which was only $500. It feels great to exceed our goal and it's sometimes easy to forget people are so kind, but one bake sale makes us see the world in a new light. People are kind, compassionate, and willing to give. We just provide a way for them to help.

Tesoro Baja Fresh Fundraiser Tesoro Key Club hosted a fundraiser outside of the Rancho Santa Margarita Baja Fresh on February 15th from 10:30–9 p.m. We got our friends, family, and school together to help raise money for the district convention, and also to enjoy some great food. Baja Fresh donated a generous 15% of the proceeds to our club, which, at the end of the day, totaled to over $120. Everyone we knew was willing to help out our club and they all followed through to help us reach our goal. With the money raised from this fundraiser, we can now afford to entirely pay for our chaperone to go to DCON and we knocked at least $30 off the entire price of DCON for each of the members going. During the event, we passed out flyers to all the people we knew and they showed the flyers to the lady at the register who then marked it and placed it into a box Baja Fresh had made entirely for us. The box was covered in the flyers and had a huge slit at the top for receipts. The manager totaled up all of the receipts at the end of the day and then gave us 15% of the proceeds. He was nice enough to add a little extra which brought the total over $100, far exceeding our expectations of what we would actually make. Overall, the event was a success that ended up bringing our home, school, and even our community together in order to support Key Club and enjoy some good food while helping.

Laguna Hills iTRYathlon Laguna Hills Key Club helped out at the iTRYathlon recently. It was fun to see all people of all ages pushing to do a marathon that did not just consist of running. Laguna Hills Key Club helped out at the iTRYathlon recently. It was fun to see all people of all ages pushing to do a marathon that did not just consist of running. The course was vigorous with going up and down giant hills. There was a running, biking, and swimming portion. It was fun to cheer people on as they got tired and wanted to give up, but with the help of kind words they pushed through. Even to the very last contestant who was more than three miles out while everyone else was finished, she stilled pushed through till the finish line, completing all tasks. It really showed me that no matter what in life, even when discouraged, you should still push through it because it is not the prize at the end of the tunnel that is important, it is the way and how you got there. On the right is a picture of our club president, being “gangster” with her 90’s pink “boom box”. We got to see a different side of her instead of just being in a leadership role. - Sophia Nguyen / Vice President 2014 - 2015

Race for Rescues We helped out at a marathon for an animal shelter at the Irvine Great Park. It was lots of fun and many dog owners came out to walk to support and help raise funds to give those rescued animals a loving home. The dog owners even brought out their pets to walk or jog with them through the course of the marathon. We helped keep time and keep track of which runners came through the finish line, but we also helped cheer others on. It was fun to see all the different types of dogs, some were huge and some were tiny tea-cup sizes. It was a fun event and I would love to go again next year and maybe even see other Key Clubbers there as well. Here is a picture of one of the oldest, but cutest dogs—a Corgi.

Mission Viejo Hardcore Laser Tagging What’s better than spending Valentine’s Day moping around due to your inescapable single-ness? Hanging out with fellow Key Clubbers of course! On February 14th, Mission’s Key Club gathered at Laser Quest in order to socialize and participate in some friendly competition. Once each player chose ridiculous nicknames, everyone grabbed a laser gun and bravely headed for battle. There were multiple dangers everyone faced, from the endless fog and flashing lights to the small yet frighteningly skilled children who thrived in hidden corners; the harsh realities of laser tag proved to be challenging for some people. One member, Kevin Cardenas, even ran into a wall. Throughout the game, loud screams and giggles could be heard throughout the arena and by the end, everyone was exhausted yet satisfied with the turn of events. It was a great way to bond with each other while having a great time as well!
