Lieutenant Governor's Greeting Greetings Division 8a! I hope you all have been enjoying your time off from school and got to spend some time eith your loved ones! I am so proud of the dedication you guys have shown these past months despite the challenges that have arisen. It is so exciting to see Key Club thrive year round through events like our Key Club Thirst Week and Summer Leadership Conference! Continue to use this free time to host summer service projects & fundraisers! Looking ahead, we have tons of great events being planned so keep your eyes peeled for that. As of right now, we have a Division Wide Charity Miles Project lasting till September 13th, so unplug and spend time this summer outside and simultaneously fundraise for the World Wide Fund for Nature. As Always, let us know what you would like to see implemented in our Division and don't be scared to reach out with absolutely anything! Reminder to my officers: Be sure to check the paperwork tracker and submit all necessary paperwork. While it is true you must meet deadlines to qualify for awards, it's never too late to submit missing forms.

District Project Alex's Lemonade Stand When Alex, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer, was four, she set up a front-yard lemonade stand to raise money for doctors to help them find a cure. Since Alex set up her first lemonade stand in 2000 the foundation has raised more than $200 million. which has helped: Fund more than 1,000 cutting-edge research projects at nearly 150 institutions. Create a travel program to help support families of children receiving treatment and develop resources, such as our SuperSibs program to help people everywhere affected by childhood cancer.

Governor's Project Thirst Project The Thirst Project is the world's largest youth-led organization to END the world water crisis. Why Water? Health and Sanitation: Waterborne diseases kill more children every single year than HIV, Malaria, and all world violence combined. Small children typically do not have strong enough immune systems to fight diseases like cholera, dysentery, or schistosomiasis. Women and children spend on average six to eight hours each day walking to fetch water. The average distance that women and children in developing communities walk to fetch water is 3.75 miles. The time children spend collecting water keeps them from going to school and getting an education.

District Endorsed Project Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation, Inc., is one of three KPTC programs operating in the New York District of Kiwanis. The foundation supports pediatric trauma efforts at the Cohen Children's Medical Center as well as programs throughout the area to protect the safety of children and to improve the ability of local emergency medical services response teams. Every year, more children die from unintentional injuries than all childhood diseases combined. Trauma claims the lives of 25,000 children each year. Another 120,000 youngsters are permanently disabled. It doesn't have to be that way. With proper, prompt care, about 25 percent of the deaths and disabilities could be prevented or reduced. One of every six injuries is grave enough to risk life or long-term disability and requires more sophisticated diagnosis and treatment, which is why a properly equipped and staffed pediatric trauma center is so important.

International Endorsed Project Project Happiness The World Health Organization has named depression as the greatest cause of suffering worldwide. In the U.S., 1 out of 5 deals with depression or anxiety. For youth, that number increases to 1 in 3. The good news is that 40% of our happiness can be influenced by intentional thoughts and actions, leading to life changing habits. It's this 40% that Project Happiness Programs help to impact. Project Happiness helps children from Kindergarten to 12th grade led happier more fulfilled lives through Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) to regulate emotions, have good relationship skills, practice responsible decision-making, and achieve their goals in over 120 countries!

Service Spotlight Division 8a | Kripsy Kreme Fundraiser The Krispy Kreme Fundraiser was overall a blast to plan as well as execute. We started reaching out to other Key Clubs after deciding on the charity we will be supporting, Project Hope. We collaborated with Frank McCourt High School, Maspeth High School, Scholar’s Academy, and Sunnyside Community. Our fundraiser went on for about a month, and as the Academy of American Studies Key Club’s Treasurer, every response to our Google Forms really excited me. I happily pull out our Digital Dozens’ excel sheets and write the personalized message to every single one of our contributors. It makes me truly glad to know that there are people who care and are willing to help other people in third world countries who are suffering, even if they can’t see the impact they are making themselves. We chose to send our profit to South Asia, where they focus on reducing maternal and neonatal mortality as well as non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and respiratory diseases. I, personally, am so delighted to have been a part of this fundraiser, supporting and advertising it for the whole month. I look forward to planning and creating more successful and meaningful fundraisers in the future.

Service Spotlight Division 10 | UNICEF Math 4 Good UNICEF is a humanitarian organization that aids individuals in need throughout the world. Through their efforts in 190 countries, UNICEF has improved, and often saved, the lives of millions of children. Tottenville Key Club decided to contribute to this wonderful organization in whatever capacity we could. Thus, the “Raising Money for UNICEF Through Wisdom”, a verbose but accurate title, event was born. Members were, and continue to be, advised to complete math games and/or puzzles on UNICEF’s website to raise money for children. That is all they have to do to make an impact; it is that easy. The more mathematical questions answered correctly or puzzles solved, the more members raise. In the mere 14-20 days for which this event has been ongoing, Tottenville has contributed $2,196.25. I have no doubt that until August 1st, we will have raised much, much more!
