District Project Alex's Lemonade Stand When Alex, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer, was four, she set up a front-yard lemonade stand to raise money for doctors to help them find a cure. Since Alex set up her first lemonade stand in 2000 the foundation has raised more than $200 million. which has helped: Fund more than 1,000 cutting-edge research projects at nearly 150 institutions. Create a travel program to help support families of children receiving treatment and develop resources, such as our SuperSibs program to help people everywhere affected by childhood cancer.

Governor's Project Thirst Project The Thirst Project is the world's largest youth-led organization to END the world water crisis. Why Water? Health and Sanitation: Waterborne diseases kill more children every single year than HIV, Malaria, and all world violence combined. Small children typically do not have strong enough immune systems to fight diseases like cholera, dysentery, or schistosomiasis. Women and children spend on average six to eight hours each day walking to fetch water. The average distance that women and children in developing communities walk to fetch water is 3.75 miles. The time children spend collecting water keeps them from going to school and getting an education.

District Endorsed Project Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation, Inc., is one of three KPTC programs operating in the New York District of Kiwanis. The foundation supports pediatric trauma efforts at the Cohen Children's Medical Center as well as programs throughout the area to protect the safety of children and to improve the ability of local emergency medical services response teams. Every year, more children die from unintentional injuries than all childhood diseases combined. Trauma claims the lives of 25,000 children each year. Another 120,000 youngsters are permanently disabled. It doesn't have to be that way. With proper, prompt care, about 25 percent of the deaths and disabilities could be prevented or reduced. One of every six injuries is grave enough to risk life or long-term disability and requires more sophisticated diagnosis and treatment, which is why a properly equipped and staffed pediatric trauma center is so important.

International Endorsed Project UNICEF UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. UNICEF works with partners around the world to promote policies and expand access to services that protect all children. Additionally they have helped reduce child mortality all over the world by working to reach the most vulnerable children, everywhere. From gender equality, to social policy, to assisting in emergenices, UNCIEF fights to support children internationally.

May Divisional Date Held: May 30th, 2021 Big shout out to everyone who joined our second Divisional Meeting and Game Night; I can't wait to see more of you join in the future! For those of you who missed the opportunity to attend the meeting, our new Charity Miles Project was introduced, we announced our Divisional Service Hour & Fundraising goals, we went over District Updates such as our new Governor's & District Project, and ended the night by playing games together! It was truly a blast and we actually made a Divisional Playlist on Spotify so feel free to add your favorite apropriate songs to use during Divisional gatherings!

Through Charity Miles, we can help raise donations for them, by simply just walking/running/jogging! For Every 3 Miles you get one hour of community service! End Date: September 13th, 2021

Leadership Training Conference Date Held: May 14th - 15th, 2021 The first virtual NYDKC LTC was this May, and it was amazing to see hundreds of Key Clubbers from all over the state come together and celebrate a great service year despite the hectic world around us! A live stream was held straight from the Desmond Hotel in Albany, and we had AMAZING keynote speakers, Seth Maxwell from the Thirst Project joining from Los Angelos, and Sergio Argueta from Long Island. The event was filled with tons of engaging, informational, and inspiring workshops, as well as a fun Playfair and plenty of other opportunities to engage with each other! I hope to see even more familiar D8a faces at future events like this one!

Service Spotlight Division 8a | Leukemia & Lymphoma Fundraiser Our club merged two seemingly different interests we shared, food and service, and hosted a cooking night to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! We set up a GoFundMe page and have members make a donation in order to register for the event. This event was so incredibly fun with three breakout rooms to choose from, members had the option of remaining a meal from Victorious, Spongebob, and Barbie. I loved seeing my club come together and revisit our childhood by making Krabby Patties and learning about the amazing Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is an organization with the mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improving the quality of life of patients and their families. The thought that we can still make a difference right from my kitchen was so unbelievable and heartwarming. I can’t wait to organize more events where Key Clubbers can come together after a year of isolation and have a good time while bringing about positive change!

Service Spotlight Division 7 | Little Saint Nick's Foundation The holiday season may not be for another six months, but giftgiving is year-round! If you had ever been to the hospital either for a night or a few months, you’d know it is not the ideal situation to be in. Founded by Raymond Mohler, the Little Saint Nick Foundation has helped ease the fear in sick children both in and out of hospitals by giving them items such as crayons, coloring books, stuffed animals, along with get-well-soon cards. East Rockaway High School’s Key Club has partnered with the foundation by raising money to buy the items Little Saint Nick needed and by helping them pack the goodies into bags to give to children. Our club raised $300 from selling handmade tie-dyes masks, courtesy of our high school’s fashion design class. With that money, we bought more coloring books and stuffed animals along with the items people donated! In mid-may Raymond Mohler, along with other staff members, met us at the front of the school, where we set up tables outsides and enjoyed the weather while packing the goodie bags! It was a success! We were able to pack 350 bags for kids who will receive one upon entering the emergency room. The Key Clubbers and I were so glad we partnered with this foundation to give light to children in dark situations!
