any available halal food. Don’t fret as there are plenty of halal Chinese food that is easily obtainable in most of the major cities in China. Due to the large number of Muslim population, small Muslim restaurants and halal food stalls are accessible in town areas particularly in regions with a significant number of Muslim communities. As a heads up, halal in China is known as “Qingzhen Cai” and most of the “Qingzhen Cai” restaurants are run by Muslims. In this issue, we will be visiting one of the distinguished halal restaurant, Yershari Xinjiang Food, located in Shanghai, the city that never sleep. This restaurant is located at a strategic location near the famous pedestrian road of Nanjing, which is literally beside the Shanghai Metro People’s Square station. This restaurant is known for its lamb cuisine, and is considered by the meat-lovers as the mecca of meat. From the menu, the dishes served focuses mainly on the North and East Chinese cuisines. One of the dishes that was ordered was the Yeshari’s signature mutton shashiks. The mutton is grilled on sharpened red willow branches to ensure the meat is grilled thoroughly. When you take a bite at this dish, you can taste the hot and juicy flavour of the meat with crispy chunks of fats to provide a more juiciness to the meat. It is seasoned in perfection with spicy, cumin based rub. To cool the mouth from the spices, there is the mixed onion, pepper and tomato salad. This salad is the cheaper and tangier version of Greek salad, and it complements well with the meat dish. This meat is then washed down with a mild and creamy Xinjiang milk tea, and this tea is available not only in sweet flavour, but also salty flavour! This tea gives a smooth and silky taste with every sip you take. Not to be missed is the 100% homemade yoghurt with raisins and pumpkin. The light creamy taste of yoghurt balances perfectly with a sliced chunk of the nutty squash. It adds a finish splash to the meal, enjoy
